So a number of us on irc participate in some intermittent writing competitions. They usually involve a race to see who can write the most in a set period of time. For the sake of variance, I am proposing a different sort of competition.

The premise is this:
Every participant takes a scene from an old story of theirs, and then they rewrite it.

After, each participant posts both the original and new scene for us compare them to determine whose new scene shows the most improvement from the first one. Improvement is the most important factor, not actual skill. So, even if someone is a worse writer, if they show a greater increase in skill, they are still the winner. That being said, don't take something from ten years ago. Use common sense.

Any other rules can be hammered out later.

So, who's interested.

I'm interested, but it sounds like you've gone out of your way to stop me using my old shitty Bleach fics and thus crush you all.

 

This sounds right up my alley, as I'm currently rewriting an old fic.

This sounds like it could be fun.

 

I'm not quite sure which fic I'd use for this but I like the idea. We should perhaps focus less on the competition angle and more on reflection over what has been improved etc.

 

That's what it is mainly about, but gamification is a well-proven motivator. Besides, competition brings out the best in us.
