This made me laugh out loud. I've heard all sorts of reasons for banning the books, but to do so because it's real magic? Direct quote from a priest:

It's a good thing JKR never gave us the incantation for fiendfyre, or the apocalypse would be upon us.

I don't get how religious fanatics are still arguing over HP in 2019. If you zoom out and look at the structure of the story, there's an obvious Christian allegory. She didn't go full CS Lewis at the end, but it was close. Dumbledore was cast in the role of God, who sacrifices his only son (Harry/Aslan), in order to protect innocent people from the Devil (LV). There's even a Judas Iscariot in Snape, who regrets his betrayal and tries to redeem himself. This structure is one of the things that irritated me most about the last two books.

If anything, religious schools should be teaching these books as an allegory for the redemptive power of love and sacrifice.

Edit: oops, it would be Harry as Aslan, not Dumbledore, but Dumbledore gets all the Aslan speeches.

JKR coming right out and saying Dumbledore boned Grindlewald probably doesn't help.
Now, if she'd said he was fucking Harry then she might've gotten a warmer response.

Heh, those jokes never get old. Much like some priests wish their altar boys wouldn‘t.

Other than that, I got nothing. You gotta love the religious nutcases.

    Huh.

Have any of you ever read a story where the wizards and witches of the wizarding world actually do worship Satan and invoke him to do magic?

None come to mind for me.

Not a book or fanfic, but the new Sabrina series fits the Bill, Darth. It's pretty damn good,

Haven't read it in years but don't the characters in the Bartimaeus Trilogy get their powers from a dimension of demons? Kind of the same thing.

The same I think with the Demonata Saga.

More like they summoned creatures from another realm. Not strictly demons, but I think 'daemon' might've been a rank? There was also djinn, and ifrit.

The new Sabrina came to mind as well.

Plenty of books have demons as magic creature familiars by another name, but that's the only thing I can think of with Satan worship by sympathetic main characters.

Yeah, I've seen the Netflix Sabrina.

I just thought that out of the millions of HP fanfics, someone would have written it; especially with all the churches bringing it up all the damn time.

Wow, I'd gotten so used to the lefties making complete and utter idiots of themselves that I'd almost forgotten good old fashioned asshats like this guy were a thing.

Hey, obviously this priest must believe in witch doctors too; if he's also a system with multiple headmates, who keeps an anatomically correct fursuit in his closet, we may have found the apotheosis of human stupidity.

In the meantime, since God's servant says HP spells work, I'll just be over here boring out a hardware store dowel so I can fill it with the blood of a house cat. I plan to wave it around* until I've maxed out the spells needed to be a decent thief/assassin. Step 3: Profit.

*The wand, not the cat; I wouldn't wave around a cat that's already woozy from donating blood, that would be cruel.

Yeah, I've got to think that if magic was a real thing that you could do by invoking the devil then everyone would know about it. How many angsty teenagers try this shit every day?

There's a show - I think it's just called "Salem", which is pretty dark and, yes indeed, fills the criteria for the superstitious nonsense espoused by Christian fanatics, but you know, I think that's sort of the idea. It used to be on netflix, I don't know if it still is.

Was a big fan of Skulduggery Pleasant when I was younger and I've got to admit that even to this day, I still sometimes snap my fingers in an attempt to conjure a fireball.Obviously I know I'm not going to but I still do it because what could it hurt? Not really sure if I'm explaining this well.
