To be fair....my quality of life has greatly improved since getting married. Everything looks nice, smells nicer, is more organized. Dinner is actually more than takeout...

Honestly, happens quite a bit with both groups of Asians. We/They would be okay with dating white people and other Asians but throw a black person into the mix and both groups go crazy racist.

Whenever I had black friends around the house as a kid, my grandma would obsessively clean whatever they sat on/touched. Funnily enough, never happened with any of my white friends.

I have to wonder how much of it is just that they've never really spent time with the "others" that they're so afraid of, so one person they met colored their whole experience.

Like, I remember this line from a Star Wars book, explaining why Jedi are so unfailingly polite (most of them, anyway): "The vast majority of people will never meet a Jedi. If a person meets a Jedi and finds that Jedi to be rude and uncouth, they will think all Jedi like this, and will tell that tale to all who can hear. If later they meet another Jedi who is kind and polite, a seed of doubt may be planted in their mind. Perhaps the first Jedi was an outlier, a poor example of the Order. But maybe it was the second Jedi who was different from his fellows. So he will quiet in thought, but his opinion of the Order remains unchanged. I swear that has to be paraphrased from some code of conduct of the FBI or something. But it is a thing I try to keep in mind when dealing with these kinds of people.

 

Meh. Love them all you want, but racism is still racism, and not everyone raised in that era is racist.
