The story continues with its Friendship is Magic formula while prodding along with the plot of the first book(as of chapter 19 they have yet to make it to the Norbert incident), while making magic more fun than anything Rowling did. Also Hermione has a vindictive streak, and any chances of the Golden Trio getting together isn't going to happen outside of some sort of cataclysm. Also on the Spacebattles site there is a group of short side-stories that are interspersed between chapters

What's Her Name in Hufflepuff has updated to Chapter 22. With good intentions Kasey has caused a number of changes to the time line, but they dont call it the butterfly effect for nothing and her good deeds or changes have resulted in a number of unfortunate events.

 

I rather like this. It's light and fun, with clever twists on canon to keep you hooked.

Kinda reminds me of Harry Potter and the mysterious curse of the girl who lived. But that might be the use of problems eleven year old girls have for comedy more than anything.

Overall this might be my favourite OC centric story since Natural 20

Whats Her Name in Hufflepuff Chapter 23

And this chapter marks the end of Kasey's first year, with an interesting end.

Through hard work Hufflepuff managed to beat out Slytherin in points for the House Cup, but as in canon Dumbledore rewards Harry and Ron a ridiculous amount of last minute points robbing Hufflepuff of the House cup. Which is fertile ground to grow some resentment between the Badgers and the boy who lived

The thing about the fic is it still manages to be funny, and not just grin, but actually make my old ass laugh out loud.

 

What Her Name in Hufflepuff Chapter 24

Kasey's Busy summer begins and the tone of this Chapter is notably darker. But Kasey does something i dont think ive ever seen before in HP fanfiction

She Scooby Doos over to Little Harrington and talks to Frank Bryce, the old caretaker for the Riddle Manor.

 

I think this fic is really good and deserves to be in the library.

There are some pretty interesting plot points that I don't feel are visited nearly enough in fanon (such as

Hermione being basically bullied/feuding with Ron and how that relationship/friendship only develops from one event.

There's also an underlying lightheartedness and silliness that I appreciate and is missing from a lot of other fan interpretations of Rowling's world.

However, I did feel at times that the conversations and character interactions are a touch too old. They feel more like mid-teens at times (14-16) instead of 11-12 year olds.

The latest chapter also shows promising signs of bigger butterflies and a planned overarching plot in a novel way I haven't seen before

Woops, didn't realise you were the author lol. Yeah I've been enjoying the Frank subplot.

 

Pretty curious what's going to happen with that little twist at the end of the chapter. Could be a big boon but also a problem depending on how it works out.

But since the House elfs previous master died he/she is probably looking for a new one right?

I'm also looking forward to what's going to happen with the Diary. I think she practiced some Occlumency in the first year and she knows about the danger so she's probably not going to be in trouble herself. But one of her roommates might steal the diary. Something similar happened in canon I think.

Fun chapter though.

 

It took me way too long to figure out her favourite author's real name. I would have felt bad, if I hadn't been laughing so hard.

 

So, I had avoided this for a while because I had the idea that any fic that was a self insert would be terrible. This wasn't (except for the band thing in the last chapter) bad. The writing is good. It doesn't take itself too seriously, enough has changed that it's not a cannon rehash, future knowledge isn't turning the author into the next coming of merlin, and it's managed to make me actually curious about the initial mystery.

Edit to agree with someone else's review: This story features children that are written like children, undersized adults (except for the undersized adult). This is a problem that so many stories suffer from, that this one avoided it is pretty much enough to make me like it.

Depends on what fandoms you follow. There are a few decent ones, most of which have threads on DLP. Going through the tags is a good place to start. Some are better than others.
