We all know it's gonna happen. They've fictionalized everything they could, so this is going to be filmed.

Place your bets, when they're going to make one?

I'm talking the typical hollywood-style nonsense with a brave protagonist who manages to defeat the disease during various action scenes.

My bet is on 2021, but depending on when the project starts it could be early 2022.

 

I think we're likely to get an Oscar-bait film focused on living in lockdown before we get a higher budget remake of Contagion.

 

Anne Hathaway and Hugh Dancy starring as parents of two kids (high school age daughter, preteen son) who get laid off from their high-flying careers and have to confront the reality of their crumbling marriage (he cheated before) without access to regular therapy and also the neighbors who think rona is a hoax.

Homelessness, LGBT issues and parent-children issues and abuse.

Sad but would probably get an oscar.

 

In addition to all of the above, there will surely be a political thriller in the style of [generic political scandal movie] detailing:

1. how and why the FDA and CDC screwed up testing so bad,

and the UWashington folks + scrappy journalists on twitter will be heroes in the film, as they should be.

-I doubt there will be any large-budget film on the Chinese government screw-ups because the Chinese government will intimidate and economically attack any company that tries to accurately depict what happened. There may be a film depciting local Chinese government screwups followed by Xi (Chairman) saving the day with hoensty and competence.

 

The Purge 4: Lockdown

 

Not only will we get an oscar bate movie, and a high budget hollywood thriller, we'll also inevitably get an HBO style story called "Lockdown" or "Wuhan" or something like that.

 

A Sorkin miniseries about the background WH staff during corona.

 

Nah, he'd probably choose to do it about civil servants in HHS or State. That would let him play to his liberal preferences, present them as the tortured underlings of a slowly imploding administration, just trying to get the right thing done in face of adversity.

 

I'm now taking bets on how long it takes for Liam Neeson to have to rescue his daughter from terrorists during lockdown.

 

I want a 24 spinoff film with Keifer Sutherland yelling for someone to TELL ME WHERE THE PPE IS!

 

There will definitely be a bunch of Chinese propoganda-esque films on it. But I doubt they'll want to include the censorship in it - more likely that will just be subtly hinted at.

 

Romcom of some highflying New York exec entering the wrong zoom meeting of a small town baker. Love ensues.

There’s also that dumb Michael Bay movie where covid has made the world a dystopian future where the government never lets you leave and kills those suspected to have the rona-like illness.

That may well be what annoys me the most about how most films and shows to do with covid will portray lockdown - as a bad thing that hurts people. It'll almost certainly never be shown in a positive light, regardless of the lives that its saved.

 

Probably just reimaging World War Z with Brad Pitt going into Wuhan backed up by US troops

 

I'd be willing to wager instead of a single film or wave, lockdown/quarantine films will become an entire new genre. Thrillers, romance, conspiracy, political themes.. the possibilities are literally endless.
