I was reading The Wizard in Gotham (or something to that extent) when I had an idea.

A kleptomaniac Harry is caught stealing something from a mediocre magician at Dudley's birthday, when his parents finally relented and allowed him to have one. So, eager to repay the magician and to get rid of Harry, they allow him to take Harry (who has shown interests in magic tricks) as a protegee.

So, over the years, Harry learns several illusional tricks and begins using them to pickpocket people. Several years afterwards, and the magician is beginning to become fed up with Harry's kleptomania. However, after a show in Gotham City, the magician dies under mysterious circumstances.

Harry, unsure to look after himself legally, decides to live on the streets and to use his tricks to make himself money via stealing. It starts off small, but when he finds out about all the thieves in Gotham, he realizes that he has to become a bigger and better thief.

Enter, the various villains of Gotham. When realizing just what a limited grasp on sanity the villains have, and their themed crimes, Harry begins to perform bigger tricks to take a lot of money, with his real money helping him along.

When Hogwarts tracks him down, he has made a reputation of himself as The Wizard/Sorcerer. However, when he learns about real magic, his curiosity leads him to Hogwarts. The tricks he was taught has a small effect, and he is driven to the library to find spells.

However, he'd became well aqquainted with the various people of Gotham due to his unique abilities and they decide to track him down. When they find him, he is several years into his magical education and in a battle with Lord Voldemort who continues to try and kill him.

So, the villains decide to help him out as he's helped them out so much, and has helped them escape Batman various times. As you can see, there would be humorous parts here.

The Joker would buy things from the recently established Weasleys Wizard Wheezely (In co-operation with Zonkos), Catwoman would be on a constant search for a way to become magical so she could become a cat, and the various other villains would certainly find something to keep them amused.

Back in Gotham though, Batman is curious by the lack of major crimes in the city. When he discovers a large boost of crime in Britain, he heads there. Approached by a group of people who claim to be terrorized by the same people he'd been looking for, he also discovers the world of magic.

The idea would be to incorporate the science and insanity of Batman into the world of magic and racism in the Harry Potter one. And, it would be funny to see the Mad Hatter tying to steal the Sorting Hat.

So, anyone thinks it's a good/bad idea? And if anyone wants to write it feel free to do so- I won't be writing it in a long, long time.

 

This could work, but you would have to set major limits of which characters you were going to let into the story. If you let them all in it would be just a batman story in another setting. In saying that this would take a bloody good author to pull off and i cant think of any at the moment that would be interested/free to pick up another story. Decent idea but would take alot of time and work to pull off.

Also, you'd have to work hard on getting a decent way to get the magician to take Harry. I know if most people went to someone's house and they said "My nephew stole from you, take him." They would run so fast you wouldn't see much more than dust.

 

Meh. We're talking about Gotham here. Everything has a price on the Black Market in Gotham.

 

True, but the major factors still remain. Equality vs. Dominance, just Harry would come up with a new side. And the villains would have to also be constantly upping their game to get rid of the disadvantage they have. So, it's more like Equality vs. Dominance vs. Uh... Crime?

Also, Batman is likely to inspire several radicalist groups via his way of dealing with Voldemort's forces. So, then you have a mini war within the world with a war within a war, ect. etc. That way, Batman isn't transplanted straight into it even if most criminals appear.

True, but no matter what we think, the Dursley's aren't stupid- they are just ignorant. So, it's likely they won't just say "Take him, take him!" they'd be more likely stating that they have to repay him somehow. And then they'd plant the idea in his mind, like "It's such a shame you don't have an apprentice, you do such marvellous tricks" throughout the his time their- knowing that Harry wouldn't be able to resist trying to steal him. So when he does, the magician is more likely to be inclined towards taking Harry on.

If crossed with the movie "Batman Begins" or what ever it is called could it be a ok start for a dark!harry fic.

Harry ran away from the Durseys/was taken as a apprentice of the Magician and once he is on his own does he steal to survive.

Several years later is he in the chinese prison with Bruce Wayne who is of similar age as him.

The man that identifies himself as Ducard invites Bruce and Harry to join an elite vigilante group, the League of Shadows, under the leadership of Ra's al Ghul and train them.

But unlike Bruce so does Harry pass his test by killing the thief...

Shortly after does Bruce burn down the League's headquarters and Harry leaves in the chaos.

Later does The Order track down Harry, who becomes interested in magic because of the advantage it can give him.
