I think this show deserves it's own thread now.

General Premise: Married Clark and Lois with twin boys move back to Smallville so they can spend more time with their sons. Corrupt businessman Morgan Edge is moving into the town for unknown reasons and there is a mysterious stranger in a metal suit hunting Superman. Also deals with the brothers and their reactions to their father being superman.

It's the best show the CW has ever put out in my opinion (I know that's not saying much), but it avoids the majority of the tropes CW is known for. The lead actors for Clark and Lois are approaching this very much as a character study and it's been handled extremely well.

At this point, Tyler Hoechin is approaching Reeves status in my mind as a definitive version of Superman.

The relationship to previous CW shows is basically nonexistent, a smart move on their part.

Even if you're not interested in the full series, I strongly suggest watching the first half of episode 11. It's a flashback episode but it gives perhaps the best on screen version of Superman's early days/relationship with Lois I've ever seen.

But yeah. Great show. Production values would be considered top notch if this wasn't the age of Disney + or HBO, but I'd consider them about a step lower. You get great character study, awesome use of superman's many powers, and family relationship drama that never really comes across as stupid.

This- a lot of the show's appeal comes from Superman himself being a version that's really similar to the classic character in just about every way, but just set in a more modern, complex setting.

It's also great how the two major plotlines are kind of split between Lois and Clark, with them being more like partners than some other versions of the characters are. Lois investigating the antagonists, and Clark being more focused on the plot lines involving their kids.

Not to say that either is only involved in one plot line, but it was interesting to see Lois driving the more Superhero-esque storyline.

Plus the supporting cast is really interesting, with every remotely important character having at least some genuine depth to them.

Also this. Two of the main characters are teenagers, so there's some drama and immaturity, but it's always in measurable doses and handled well, and the adults act with more maturity than CW adults generally do.

I'm really trying to resist this, as I've gotten very tired of enjoying CW shows, only to have them go completely tits up around season three - Arrow was superb S1/2 then went to hell, Flash (my favorite hero as a kid) was an abortion after S2, Supergirl was lukewarm at best for seasons, and Legends is just... good in small doses.

I'll binge the good parts of it when it's done, dammit.

I will never understand how it's plausible that Superman walks around, gets photographed and, in this show, gives interviews on TV and then that same face walks into the Daily Planet offices and no one recognizes him.

It's because nobody ever did it properly. Zooey Deschanel is an example how completely hiding your forehead changes you. She's almost unrecognizable when she uses a different style. Add big glasses and you may as well have a mask on your face. The rest is in acting, change of voice and speech patterns, how you walk, how you stand and similar.

Funnily enough Henry Cavill is an example who little you need to change to make someone totally different. To this day people are surprised he's in Stardust. His Clark Kent was probably the worst on the screen though. They didn't even try.

I think a fairly plausible explanation is just that people don't even know that Superman has a secret identity. After all, he's a superhuman alien from another world, and it isn't particularly obvious or logical to conclude that he's living amongst us humans and pretending to be one of us, as opposed to keeping to himself somewhere.

And if anyone sees that Clark resembles Superman - well they'll just assume he's like one of those celebrity lookalikes. I mean, if your colleague at work happens to look like Obama, would you think Obama is deep undercover pretending to be a normal civilian... or that your colleague just happens to resemble the former president?

And that's assuming people even see the resemblance in the first place, which they may well not, between the hair and the glasses and the posture and the demeanor.

I really struggle to get into Superman and Lois.

The dude just doesn't feel like Superman to me. He feels like an ordinary guy with superpowers whose day job is being Superman.

    RIP

Oh my God, Henry Cavill is in Stardust. How did I miss this?
