Just this morning I was recommended The fanfic Out of the Night and I bing read the whole thing in 3+ hours. I was hoping by asking here I could find out if anyone had any recommendations for Fanfics that are similar to it.

If this is the wrong place to ask this I apologise in advance.

 

Serious answer: there really isn't. At least none that are anywhere near as good as it.

Is there a specific element that called out to you? There's plenty of indy!Harry fics out there, half the library here is full of them. Pureblood and secret life fics, not so much.

There is https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3000137/1/On-the-Wings-of-a-Phoenix which is one of my favorite fics of all time, so maybe that will scratch the itch.

 

It’s funny you bring On the Wings of a Phoenix up I’m actually currently rereading it. I’m looking for fanfic that has the same concept as this one. Basically where Harry learns that the world isn’t all black and white and that he is actually a Dark wizard. The emphasis on tradition and the obscure magics like rituals were great too if you have anything on that I would gladly read it. The only thing wouldn’t read is slash I just can’t get into slash fics they all seem awkward and foreign to me.

 

Ectomancer is very similar to Out of the Night: lots of dark magic, secret magical societies, criminal activity etc. I would highly recommend reading this one if you enjoyed Out of the Night.

The dark magic from Out of the Night was heavily influenced by an old Drarry fic called Oath Breaker, so if you can stomach Drarry then you might enjoy that fic. Evitativeis another, more recent, Drarry fic which features lots of dark arts and "dark arts society".

If you enjoyed the Knockturn Alley setting, you might enjoy The Pureblood Pretense, which features a lot of Knockturn Alley. However, that fic has a number of fanon cliches like magical cores, pureblood politics etc. so it might not be your cup of tea.

Honestly, it's very hard to find well written fics with a palatable pairing that are similar to Out of the Night. I really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for this one.

 

Hmm, have you considered Black Luminary? It's currently my favorite fic, so I like to recommend it when I can, and I think it somewhat fits here.
It's an AU, Harry is a Black, dark wizards have their traditions shrouded in secrecy, characters have histories with each other and you as a reader slowly see the world unfold. Since Harry is "in" so to speak, Hermione serves as the initial "fish-out-of-water" character through which you learn the basics.

 

Blood Crest (also in the library) hits similarly as Out of the Night once you get a bit further in to the story. Starting points are very different, but once you get to the point of Harry working for his mentor Dark wizard in Knockturn...

He also has a different name and noone recognizing him and stuff up to a point. And they're both very good fics, so there's that.
