You're right, but as we all know fanfiction is addicting. Mostly kids under 13 read Harry Potter books (note: I said mostly, not all) and while many parents approve of the books, they'll all hate fiction.

I introduced my 11 year old neighbor to Harry Potter fanfiction and when his mother found out she tried to yell at me (tried is a key word). She doesn't let him read it.

 

It just makes sense that everyone but Harry should die. Afterall if only Harry is left out of the original characters what's stoping him from taking over the world? I think with all the destruction he might become just crazy enough to lose his morals. Ohh the fanfic possibilities...

 

Don't be a dumbfuck... if Harry can weather the Dursley's shit for 16 years and still come out as a functioning human being, he can weather just about anything, including the death of the other characters.

About the only thing JKR has done right since she offed Sirius was to have Harry bounce back from it and not turn into a (more) whiny, pillow crying, emo bitch than he already was, or that innumerable fanfics have cast him as being.

As to the topic of this thread...

If that spoiler is correct, it sort of makes sense... though it's not exactly satisfying.

The reason being is that the magical world represents "childish views on life" as exemplified by Dumbledore's deliberate twisting and bending of the rules in PS/SS, Snape's childish vendetta against him, and especially Fudge's attitudes and actions. So, if you take Harry's facing Voldemort as symbolic of him growing up and facing adulthood and putting away childish things, it's logical that eventually Harry will end up cutting ties with the magical world in the end.

And frankly, I tend to agree with that view in general.... the magical world of Harry Potter is apparently run by retards with the mental maturity of a 12 year old with Down's Syndrome. And if Harry does face down Tom properly, then he'd no longer be suited to live in such a world.

He'd simply end up being too grown up to put up with the sort of stupid shit that goes on in the magical world for long.

Though myself, I doubt that it'll end with him being non-magical... just that he'll decide to leave the magical world and enter the real world.

Other observations are spot on, Ron's family will certainly never simply leave Harry to fend for himself in the real world if he lost his magic, and neither would Hermione, and I seriously doubt that JKR would even contemplate a mass killoff of all the main characters to the point that Harry would be left utterly alone.

As such, Harry leaving the magical world under his own steam is about all that's logical... that or him faking the loss of his power and leaving on his own. (It might be the only way he'll cut free of the horrific stalker named Ginny)

I think seeing him killed off is also unlikely, simply because of the crappy life he's led up till this point. Killing him off would send the message of "Life only gets worse until you die." I mean for fuck's sake, He gets targeted by magical hitler, has his parents murdered, gets left with abusive guardians for a decade and a half without anyone doing shit to stop the abuse, has multiple attempts on his life, and has to face his parent's murderer multiple times in life threatening ways.. the kid is due for a little change in his fortunes.

Of course... that said... this is being written by JKR... who "gifted" us with HBP. Something that I wish we could "regift" right back to her.
