Can someone explain to me when 'Friendship', 'Hurt/Comfort', 'Crime', or bloody 'Western' became genres? I don't remember how many genres there were the last time I checked but it was something like five or six. Now there's twenty-one! When did this happen?

 

Happened maybe a couple of months ago at earliest. Bear in mind that these genres probably are spread across all books, so whilst Western doesn't really apply to HP (God forbid that it ever should), it may well apply to another book.

 

@Mordecai- Check these out. The Good, the Bad, and the SNAPE is my favorite, but the other one is good too.

 

How do they pull out a Harry Potter/GBU/James Bond crossover? That's crazy. I'd read it for the lulz if Snape wasn't the main character.

 

Actually I searched for that exact reason and did find two. I think they might have been parodies but for a second I just gawked. Don't you think it's weird though? We now have romance but also 'friendship' and 'family'. And while we have horror we also have 'Spiritual' and 'Supernatural' and just 'Crime' (and I think 'Western' might just apply to horror as well). I think it's odd and it didn't help with anything. Okay, people might want fics that aren't romance but are just 'friendship' but half the new fics I saw were Romance/Friendship. 'They're married but they're also best friends!!!11!!'

 

Believe it or not, there was a fic that had as its premise a Sympathetic! Fellow Child-Abuse Survivor! Voldemort who just happened to own a dude ranch out in the American West. He precedes to snatch Harry from under the Order's noses and sends him there to recover. Gives new meaning to the phrase "I ain't quittin' you!" I do not currently have the link to the fic, but I know it can be found on FF.Net. It appearance considerably predated the filter.

Yeah, I think there were some Cedric inspired Brokeback Mountain fusion/crossovers.

And the change was a little while back (June 26th according to the front page). They also dropped the "Action" from "Action/Adventure" which kinda annoys me as there's not a lot of adventure in many action fics. The only new ones are: Western, Crime, Family, Hurt/Comfort, and Friendship.
