Maybe she will actually clear up all the unanswered questions that were supposed to be wrapped up? We can only hope.

J.K. Rowling should quit writing as a whole, and leave the writing of all magic to some of the Fan Fiction authors I've seen. That's just my opinion though.

Ya, I agree wholeheartedly. It may even help out the world of fanfiction with new ideas that can be expanded upon.

So wait she writing an encyclopedia with all the information regarding Harry Potter? Wow what an original concept. Wherever did she come up with it- COUGH http://www.hp-lexicon.org COUGH.

Sigh I'll probably buy it though.

The hp-lexicon is info inferred from obsessive reading of the books, charity books, and interviews. JK gets to make up stuff. Though she probably did get the idea from the lexicon, because she admitted to using it when writing for continuity.

I use the HP-Lexicon all the time....and I will still buy the encyclopedia when it comes out.

    /sigh

I'll most likely even get the hardback edition.

I think we're all gonna be rather disapointed with the encyclopedia...

What we all want is a huge book, hundred of pages long, telling use everything we've ever wanted to know about the magical world: the rules of magic, all the spells, the history, the locations we've never seen, the way international and national institutions work, character histories and futures.

Instead I feel we're going to get a Quidditch Through the Ages or Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sized book, telling us what the epilogue should have done.

I'm not getting my hopes up.

You're probably right Taure, but do bear in mind, JKR has supposedly got a decades worth of nearly unused notes on the Wizarding World tucked away. She might decide to go through them and put them into a more releasable fashion. Can but hope...

I don't think I will buy it. I mean its nice to know more about wizarding world and all, but actually buying a book just for the sake of reading about unicorn urine's uses in dieting or similar shit just doesn't appeal to me.

Anyway thats what I think now. If everyone who reads the book gives glowing reviews, then may be I'll think about it.

One way or the other, massive collection of knowledge or expanded epilogue, I'm sure I'll buy it. I'm a sucker for anything that can act as a good reference source. Hell, I've got more "guide to" type books for various fandoms than I do the actual books. Lord knows they haven't made a Stargate resource book I don't have. >.<

The reasoning behind this sentence escapes me. How the hell would a book written by someone "who can't write for shit" be a good idea? Not being able to "write for shit" would kill any good ideas the author would have, thus leading to the creation of utterly shitty books; come to think of it, I suppose that's why the Harry Potter books have so little success and good critics, I had been wondering about that. That's also the reason why no one spends any amount of time online having discussions about JKR's shitty books. Or why no one bothers to write thousands of words based on the shitty world and shitty characters created by this author who can't write for shit. Silly me, I had never thought of that.

(For the record, I know that JKR's talent has been widely discussed already and that I already said what I thought, which is why I exaggerated both my and Krull's opinion in this post without further elaboration. For the full arguing, see here.)

Anyway, I'll buy it. No matter how silly-looking Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts looked, they were entertaining reads nonetheless; an Encyclopedia about the whole world of magic is bound to be more than simply entertaining. I disagree with Taure on this one: she did mention an "Encyclopedia" of the HP books, and according to the article, something including most of her notes about both the world and the characters. And given (as someone already said) that she has 10 years worth of notes and backstory, I doubt we can expect something as thin and as silly as the two books she already published beside her series.

    Just my thoughts though.

J.K. Rowling herself has said it's going to be about the characters:

That's what happens when you reply to a topic without reading an article first...

I edited my post after clicking Xanatos' link (and before seeing that you had replied). Apologies for thinking one second that you could be less well-documented than I on the subject. Should've known better. :p

    ...because it's an encyclopedia?

When I read about it, I thought that this will just elaborate on the universe of Harry Potter, and maybe add a few things JKR didn't use in the books. As I said, JKR has some very good ideas.

And because it's advertised as an encyclopedia, forgive me for asuming that it won't have, or need to have, a plot or dialogue, character interaction or character development, or any of the other things I find lacking in the HP books.

    Get my point?
