    Curiosity kills the cat.

Luckily - or sadly - I am a human being. So I am doomed to survive.

Someone mentioned the manga and anime 'Gravitation' ... and I was foolish enough to look at it.

    Oh, yeah.

Think of a ... err ... shy, emotional teenager, with messy hair (pink of course - why should it be black?). He runs into a loathsome, horrid blonde who at once starts to offend and insult the poor guy.

Of course next day the shy, emotional teenager can't think of anything else than the horrid, mean blonde bloke.

The blonde was raped by his mentor (abusing Malfoys seems to be a common theme as much as abusing!Dursleys), his family disapproves of the relationship, etc.

    And so on.

It is horrible. Not just the slash but the really badly written romance. The emo guy is so girlish - in several animes you aren't able to identify the gender of the protagonist - fangirl!Harry anyone? Then there is the horrid background story: the emo teenager is founder of a band and the Malfoy-replacement is a famous author.

Wikipedia reveals the manga was written 1996-2002 and the anime was aired 2000-2001, so it might indeed be archetype of all H/D fanfics out there.

Thus all the slashfangirls writing H/D crap are just rewriting and merging two storylines. Nothing original.

Gravitation isn't that bad at all in yaoi terms.
Go Loveless if you want to see worse.
Of course Gravitation works more for H/D.

That's a really good theory, Dark Minion, but think - How many brainless fangirls would have actually read enough to find the manga? Perhaps one or two, and the rest just copied off them?

    Wikipedia:

I don't know if that is a large fanbase or not.

ff.net has an own Gravitation section with 6.000 stories. Not as much as the few huge anime sections, but it is part of the top 15. So the fanbase might have been large enough to spread their deadly influence and infect the Harry Potter fandom with the H/D-slash virus.

That was a bloke? I heard of the manga a couple of times and saw an image of the main character once, and I actually asumed that this was a shojo manga like any other one.

No, the yaoi-fangirls that I know in real life in my highschool, know all about Gravitation. That manga can easily be used for the H/D pairing.

Trust me, people know all about Gravitation.

    Gravitation isn't yaoi, it's shota.

...I don't really think that matters in the long run.

Alright, my terminology was off there. It still involves man on man details and it is close enough.

Shonen-ai is man-on-man. Yaoi is explicit man-on-man. Shota is the male version of loli.

    Thus endeth the lesson.
