Also, what is the point of writing a book if you are only going to allow one copy to be sold (auctioned, actually). The other 6 copies are gifts.

Charity or not, my point still stands: Why bother writing a book if you only going to publish 7 copies?

She specifically said (several times over the past years) that she would not be doing a prequel. When the fans kept begging for one, she even called it the Star Wars syndrome or something.

 

JKR is gonna waste all her HP money on hookers and blow, and will be forced to fire off a couple of shitty J&L romance books to cover the cost of rehab.

I can actually see how JKR can make money off of this Beedle bit. 6 copies are going to be 'given away'? Yeah right. Give it a month or so and we'll see those 6 copies selling on Ebay, and JKR will be laughing her ass off because people were dumb enough to fall for such a publicity stunt.

 

For some reason it's really easy for me to picture Rowling shaking a cane above her head while shouting "get off mah intellectual property!"

While this new book may not be for the sake of money, it's pretty obvious she's grown addicted to the spotlight. Now that the books are done she has to find other ways to attract attention.

 

I agree with this. JKR has definitely become a whore for the spotlight and she is pulling stunts now to stay in it. I think it's only a matter of time until we get the 8th Potter book, due to her need of more publicity.

I find it funny that she's auctioning one book off, and giving the rest away. If she had just published it and sold it to the public she could still give her portion of the sales to charity, and it'd probably be larger then the amount she will make on that one book. And I'm willing to bet someone will get their hands on one of those seven copies and post scans of the entire book on some website.

 

You will have to hope the winner of the auction does put it up online or something, because I doubt those who received it as gifts will do so, unless they have her blessing (Yeah right...).

I think JKR is fast becoming the author-who-won't-shut-up. If you want to donate to charity selling one book is IMO useless. She should have auctioned the other 6 and given one as a gift.... or donate 2% of what she's earned from the HP series.
