Is it just me or have a lot of the new authors begun to create stories based off of legendary fanfics and not the actual books. Is the HP population at FF.net becoming fans of the fanfic and not the book. If this was already mentioned just point me to the thread so I may read it.

Well, a number of fanfiction, IMO, is better than the real books...

I agree, but still you have to wonder. If the story is based off of a Fanfic, is it a fanfic or something entirely different?

Seriously Ive actually begun seeing that a bit. I do actually agree that 57% of fanfiction is better then the real books.

I believe that percentage is a little high there. More like 10% of the stories people here at DLP would actually pick up.

As probably 60-70% of fanfiction is slash, 57% of all fanfiction being better than the books... I wish. more like 3-4% this does not include various oneshots though.

The author creates the universe we all love, but fanfiction puts that universe to work, evolving with time.

You could narrow that even more depending on the genres you like and dislike and the characters you like and dislike.

I agree with Kai, it's probably more like 3-4%.
But yeah, I've seen various fanfictions based off of other fanfictions as well.

I can't really come up with that many story names off the top of my head, but I think some of the more common fanfictions-of-fanfictions are off of S'TarKan's & R. Blot's stories....

I think someone wrote a spoof of Caer Azkaban too, but I'm not sure.

I'm sure someone could make a much longer list then I could, so I'll leave that to them. ;)

It's just fanon taking over. Not a new concept by any means.

No it's not a new concept, it's just very annoying, also if it keeps going at the rate it is, we may have to create a new Fandom called HPFanfics of Harry Potter Fanifics. Then the whole world would just get really freaking confused.

Yeah, because those are ever so important. Seriously, I say, we make a list of fics that are actually fanfics of other stories. Or should we just throw all of those in the Trash Bin with everything else?

Can I ask how you calculated 57%? Or did you just pick out a number that was quite random and not divisible by 5?

That said, it is almost inevitable that fanfiction authors will take ideas from other fanfics, hence the disapproval of cliché amongst DLP users

The thing about HPFF is that it's easy to create a story. You have a basic beginning, and a basic ending, developed characters and a developed world. It's the getting from A to B is the difficulty, and why so many fail.

It's also that the original books were written while the internet is around, so discussion and the ease to create FF is way higher than any other book series.
