    I was that kid...
Another thing that annoys me is when someone writes the Chamber of secrets as a five star resort with a library, ritual room, luxurious bedroom and en-suite bathroom. It's a big fucking cave used to keep a giant snake (and I hate it when give the basilisk a stupid name like Maurice. It's a snake, it doesn't need a name).

I hate Peeves. I Can't Believe that no one (specifically including Snape or the Weasley twins) has managed to cage or banish him.

Harry with soul mate at age 11. It's icky.

Harry's soul mate having matching animagus forms (Harry as a tiger, Ginny as a white tiger) That's just tacky.

Having every one of his friends turn on him for no reason. Betrayed fics which end with everyone sitting in a circle holding hands and singing Kumbaya leave me completely unsatisfied. Even if there was some outside force that tricked the rest of the world into hating him, someone who as suffered as much emotional abuse as some of those stories wouldn't be ABLE to trust his former friends again.

"Forced Bonding" fics that end up with the victim falling in love with the rapist. That is disgusting on every level.

Voldemort randomly casting the cruciatus curse around and killing his followers for not being perfect in every way.

Remus suddenly stepping up to the plate and *finally* being a strong parent for Harry, after not bothering when Harry really needed outside intervention.

Hermione/Ron. She's intelligent, he's athletic. She tries to help everyone, he's hungry. She figures things out, he throws tantrums. I could go on.

Insanely abusive Dursleys. Dumbledore dropped Harry off on a doorstep on a winter night, but I'm not going to believe that he didn't put monitoring spells on the baby. The Dursley's were abusive, physically and mentally. That said, Vernon isn't a rapist, didn't brand Harry, never set the boy on fire...

The Bella in the stories was vicious, fanatical, and sadistic. She wasn't "misunderstood" or in need of a hug. "A Black Comedy" has one of the very few Bellas that I can like at all - and she is NOT like canon. Don't match a rabid attack bitch with a fifteen year old virgin who likes to save people.

I like stories in which bad guys get redeemed, but only if it makes sense - and the more corrupt the character, the more extreme the reason for the turnaround and the longer the shift in alliance will take. I loathe stories in which Draco, Lucius, and Snape abuse and humiliate the good guys for years, and then listen to Dumbledore say some moral lesson that the rest of us got in Playschool, and become NICE in two days.

Sum this up as "soul mates, period", and you've got a winner.

Why Snape? Why the Weasleys? Gred and Forge have no problem with a fellow mischief-maker. And since when is Snape an exorcist?

Peeves never peeved me at all, he was okay comic relief - especially that time in Order of the Phoenix where he gives Umbridge hell.

I don't think Peeves can be excorcised. He is, after all, the combined negative energies of all the teenagers at Hogwarts, and as long as they're there, he will remain.

One thing that's always annoyed the hell out of me is that fic authors always claim that Harry had a scar when Hagrid found him. Just who healed it, then? It was a cut, damn it! Yeah, it later became a scar, but we have no indication that it was magically healed at any time. It most likely scarred because of that.

Considering Harry's attitude and power in Corwalch's story, "Do Not Meddle," I wonder if we CAN find out how to neutralize a poltergeist...

Another thing that bothers me is when Harry starts listening to Cradle of filth or something o_O ... just why?
I'm not familiar with that story. Is it any good?

I like it. It's an Azkaban!Harry featuring a very angry Harry. He's not happy with the entire Wizarding World, especially the people who betrayed him.

It's one of my favorite Azkaban!Harry fics - he's smart, he's tough, he's powerful. And the viciousness that he deals out is always deserved. He isn't lashing out at everyone in the immediate vicinity - he isn't even wildly attacking everyone who betrayed him. Those who leave him alone get left alone. Those who pressure and try to manipulate him suffer REALLY creative punishments.

Azkaban!harry 'ey? First one of those I read was Ruskbyte's one. Thus began my short-lived and tragically-fated foray into Azkaban fics. Ruskbyte's is still the only one I've ever liked.
Speaking of Azkaban fics, why is he always being broken out by the X-men? It's really fucking annoying.

Actually, I only remember a few "someone rescues Harry from Azkaban" fics. Usually he has to do it himself, or everyone realizes that he was innocent and the Ministry sends AD to release him. I think I've read about two XMen/Azkaban!Harry fics, and they weren't very good.

Only in ill-fated crossovers. :D Do Not Meddle in the Affairs of Wizards is one of the better Azkaban stories. It's one of the few I actually like. While it has many of the now clichés of that genre, Corwalch doesn't go overboard and deals out some rather... creative punishments to those who annoy Harry. If you're a Ginny hater, you'll really enjoy her fate.

Point people towards the relevant DLP threads rather than merely linking to a story:
Corwalch's Do Not Meddle DLP thread.

And I'll add that I'd still say krtshadow's Redemption is one of the most realistic and best Azkaban fics. Kateydidnt's Betrayed is good also. Both older than almost all Azkaban/betrayal fics and both actually complete.

As for peeves of fanfiction, well, I hate rants about the things we hate. And fics where Harry is too strong. Or too weak. And ones where Harry is dating someone. Or something. I can't fucking stand those. And the Weasleys. They all suck. Weasley-bashing too. Gets so fucking annoying. Know-it-all Hermione is a pain in the ass. It's almost as bad as authors who make Hermione out to be fucking retarded.

I guess I just hate hating. And I hate people who hate hating too. Fuckers.

Well, I have to say my peeves have to be fics which,
    1. Make Harry love some random girl on first sight.
    2. Make Harry into some sort of Demi-God. These are horrible, unless they make Voldemort and Dumbledore into Demi-Gods aswell.
    3. Voldemort starts torturing his minions for breathing.
    4. Voldemort and Dumbledore are idiots who only know 1 to 3 spells.
    5. Voldemort has no plan to actually try to take over the wizarding world.
    6. Make everyone, except Harry, into idiots.

Well, I guess thats all the peeves I can think of right now.

When Ron adn the Weasley's secretly hate Harry. I dont think even the best 11 year old actor could pretend to like someone who they secretly loath like is portrayed in those types of stories.

The ones I hate most are usually either slash or those that have Hermionie finding out she is the long lost daughter of the Zabinis and having her not only fucking Draco or Lucius but instantly becoming evil. Or just suddenly making all those mass murdering sadistic Death Eaters not really being that bad. Just misunderstood.

Me, I hate Harry. Not an uncommon sentiment if you look through the thread. It seems we always preface that hate with "dark-but-lightsided!" or "pussy!" or "romantic!" or "ranting!" or "angsty!" or "manipulated-tool!", let's just come out and say it, Harry Potter sucks house elf balls. Canon Harry is an impotent little waste of space and almost all fanon Harry's are so deeply flawed we only put up with them for the sake of seeing how the plot is going to resolve itself. Hell that's the only reason I read the last two Canon books (well, one and a half really the first half of HBP wasn't so bad, but it sure as hell led to badness so I'll count it).It seems in this fandom that we're always looking for a new and different Deus Ex Machina.

WHY BOTHER? The whole premise was flawed after OotP, JKR wrote herself into a corner with that damn prophecy. There's just no way to solve the inequities of a madly powerful seventy year old immortal in a no holds barred deathmatch against a sheltered seventeen year old with substandard education.

If the story had been about Harry trying to live through the war, well alright then. We could even accept him appearing at the final battle and getting a lucky shot at the last minute against the man who killed his parents. It might even be a great story, hiding from the DE's, fighting his way out of traps, barely escaping with his life while those around him fight on the front lines in this iconic battle between good and evil... Very suspense/thriller genre.

But the moment it was established that Harry had to be the one to do it, the story defaulted into this spiral of Deus Ex Machina. Unless you're writing a story where Voldemort wins and everyone dies (what a down note to end on), you have to drastically rewrite Harry's character and more than likely those of his friends. It's just an inherently doomed excersize.

I'll say it again, Harry Potter sucks house elf balls. I honestly think I'd prefer reading "Susan Bones and the Seven Year War".

I second the Harry learning Karate.I man seriously, can't they find a better way for Harry 'to get the upper hand' on wizards, who have their own fists.
