    Summary
When Harry was one year old the Dursey’s didn’t accept him. He ended up in an orphanage – more precisely in a catholic orphanage. Displaying strange powers a cardinal takes interest in him.
20 years later Harry Potter is a priest employed by the Vatican and in charge for all things spiritual. In short: He investigates miracles.

What happens when a series of strange killings start? And who is the tall, colorfully clothed person that claims to be a Professor?

    Rules and/or suggestions

Harry Potter isn’t your usual priest. Sure he wears the collar but he doesn’t care about god or the celibacy. He wants to find out more about his strange power. That’s why he is doing his job. Also investigating miracles can be a dangerous job, which makes for a hardened Harry.

Harry can use magic to a certain extent. He learned some ancient magic from the Vatican library. In my opinion ancient magic isn’t as focused as wand magic. So Harry isn’t completely helpless.

Explain why Harry didn’t attend Hogwarts and why Dumbledore thought it was good for him to be raised in a catholic orphanage.

Voldemort or his deatheaters must be behind the killings. There could be a reason why they are attacking muggles.
The killings are in some way mysterious (dark mark hovering in the air, …). That’s why Harry is investigating them.

Destroying Voldemort becomes Harrys ultimate goal. Throughout the story he gets help from an order member.

Decide for yourself how much power Voldemort has at this time.

This was inspired by the film "stigmata". I hope that someone gets at the very least a bit of inspiration out of this...

I can imagine the right writer (owch) turning this into an acceptable story but I don't think you've presented it in a paticularly appealing fashion.

    Seconded...

Something similar crossed my mind some time ago, with the difference that the Vatican knows about the wizarding world and always had priests with magical power... (there were witch huntings so they had to know that something is up...) Those people are the exorcists, some kind of special emissaries from Vatican or perhaps there was a monastery where they were taught the word of God and sent to fight evil in the world...

An interesting idea, however I don't think it is story worth... I'd rather read long, well written and decent one-shot.

Also, anyone who wrote this would need to research the topic of catholocism thoroughly; look at how clergy at that sort of rank interact, etc.

Err...you just mostly killed any sense of wonder for Harry in a story. Sure, exorcisms and 'miracles' are cool, but with no true magical base, how could it be called a Harry Potter story?

I've had a few ideas involving Religious!Harry but most A.) Don't translate well into the HP world or B.) are just another Super Harry, or supper Harry and friends fic. If you want to make a religious Harry fic I think that the church you end up using, yes the Anglican church can work just fine, needs to be aware of magic. As all of Jesus's miracles could be explained by HP magic, except the coming back from the dead one anyway, the church could see wizards a heralds of good as well as spawns of Satan. Harry as a trained Dark creature hunter/exorcists would make for an interesting story. Of course it still has a very loose, read non-existent, plot but you'll have to work that out on your own.

Make this a Harry/Loli shipping and it would be awesome. Really.

Anyway, if you put a God in there somewhere, it could be interesting; say, God is kinda against the Wizards as they use some unholy magic, though is trying to correct that starting with Harry. Better yet, make Harry some kind of divine Inquisitor, like in Jumper.

"No one beside God and its lieutenants shall use the Divine Power" said Harry stoically, while pulling out his shining sword out and stabbing right through the heart of the unholy Magic practitioner called Ginny Weasley.

That would be an interesting plot device if he had multiple horcruxes. Instead of Tom Riddle possesing Ginny in CoS Jesus possesed her.

"Talking" bible horcrux, perhaps? Or one of the rags she uses to tie her hair into a ponytail is actually the Shroud of Turin.

Ya, and Jesus unleashes the basilisk to kill all the dirty heretics.
    I would read that.
