I'm just pointing out that as far as such things go, she's making shit up, so the crappiness of it is all on her. One *can* make up good shit-- Hell, some of the best fanfiction is completely AU. (No, I'm not just saying this because my fic is AU-- frankly, Magicka's a piece of crap compared to a lot of things on this site.)

Not utter crap =/= Good. Just because the author didn't take the worst possible path doesn't mean she didn't pick a stupid one to go down with that.

I don't expect an entirely canon experience. I expect a well thought-out development of canon spell use, or barring that, at least a well thought-out original system.

But on a more serious note, I feel that if every story in the DLP library were to be re-examined with our present standards, a good portion of them would go as well. This, at one time, was actually one of the more popular stories.

But whatever.

You got what you wanted Sree.

 

I began loosing interest in this story some time ago. The low update rates make it difficult to remember the different characters and changes they make and at the same time to keep the story straight. As it is rather ooc you have to get into a different mindset and doing that with this low update rate is rather time consuming.

But as I was bored recently I reread the whole series and have to say that it flows rather well. It just is not suited to read in that slow rate it is updated... So wait some time, let Miranda write some more and read from there.

The first story of her series was well received here at the time she wrote it. It was seen as a original story, even if 'Harry at another school' was made quite a few times. And I think that she will see trough this story to it's end and not stop when she looses interest or can't think of a way to continue.

The vampires are getting a bit too explicit in their "unorthodox" relationships, but it is not that difficult to ignore. It is going away from Harry Potter and as Miranda put in her authors notes, she will kill Voldemort off rather soon and it will focus on Harry, his new powers and presumably the elves and their history .

As for those who think that the trip to the past was for nought, it seems that it will play a role in the future.


There are certainly better stories out there, but this one is original and surprising and this is what I'm looking for at the moment. Moreover its grammar is good as far as I can tell.
As I had to learn English the hard way, it gets rather annoying to read their instead of there or they're in other stories.

I read so many stories that there is not much more that can be original and more or less in canon that I haven't read.
So the choice for me at least is to either stop reading Harry Potter entirely or accept that it will differ from canon rather dramatically.

PS: As to the patronus change, it would be entirely useless for him to go undercover and get a new life if every time he produces a patronus he gets recognized. So in order to stay anonymus it needs to change. It could have been something different, but well, she's not the only one to have done that...

 

This thread makes me feel so inadequate about my writing skills.

The fact the vampires have buttsecks, along with several other annoying fucking aspects ruins this for me. I like bloodmagic and some of the magical theory that is in this, but dual animagus? Thunderbird and Basilisk animagus forms at that.

Elves, crazy fighting chicks, annoying coocky Voldemort and America!ftw are all there.

Instead of actual reviews about the fic this thread has degenerated into insults with minor bits of story discussion thrown in here and there. Sree, I'm still waiting for that flame.

Lest look back on the points brought up.

Harry acts OOC - This has been discussed - over and over again. Yes he does and it's been agreed that she is a much weaker author in the beginning of the story. "THE BEGINNING IS ALL THAT MATTERS" It is important but it's also when she was a much less experienced writer - they could probably do with a re-write. With that though, if OOC was something that turned DLPers off this would be a very different forum. Sree says he likes fics with gradual changes - please find me some.

Harry has a knife - Addressed but blatantly ignored - Fred and George gave him one,

Harry's patronus form changed - As has been said before she completely changed the magic system which is one of the best parts of this fic. And as you always bitch and moan about this Harry is much different then Canon Harry - You may not like it but very reasonable explanations are given in the story.

Sree thinks the school is a rip off of another fic - Well, no it's not. The only similarities are that the schools are both 'rough'. What else is the same? Nothing. You may not like the atmosphere but that's not a plot hole. Yes students at Akren are forced to heal themselves but in your little all caps spiel you were wrong. They don't die if they can't heal themselves if it's dire they go to the medical ward. It makes sense to have them learn healing in situations where it matters, no? So you're just wrong on that point - I feel I'm going to be repeating that a lot.

Harry's hair is now long and wavy - Addressed earlier - "for some people it doesn't get neat when long" Ok, Trag. I guess Harry automatically falls into that category because Sree is grasping at straws. Sree thinks shoulder length hair is gay - that has no bearing on the story so I'll just move on.

Harry is good at potions - Look at HBP, even with the book he's obviously not incompetent. After constantly brewing them yes, he is going to get better. Again, having augmented skills is the norm for HPFF. Funny you don't squeal in throws of passion when those stories move down to 3 stars.

I would love for our diligent moderator (Sree) to please place all of these fics in the recycling bin as they don't meet a 4 average requirement that seems necessary. It's supposed to be what, 80% good? I just don't want this trash sullying the good name of our DLP forums, regardless of whether I enjoy any of these stories or not.

 

Only thing is, A lot of those fics are quite good. This fic is the epitome of shit. Vampires, elves, werewolves, blood magic, swooper cool oc's.

This fic fails. It's in the bin, get over it. Honestly I lol'd when I saw the amount of sheer outrage this produced. Can anyone honestly read over this again and say it's library worthy?

 

Our opinions currently don't matter at this point Seratin as this fic has 98 votes and a 3.50 average vote, well above several of the fics in that list that, even in my opinion, are better.

If we're basing DLP library on an objective system and that system is a 4 average, those above fics should be binned. My opinion, your opinion, everyone else's don't count except for the vote you or I or anyone else placed. The rating is the deciding factor.

It's fine that this is in the recycling bin. But if we're strictly adhering to those guidelines, several among my list still should be binned, several that are in fact quite good. Use any distractions you'd like to try detracting from that point but it still stands.

As for not basing my list off the stars, I apologize, I based off the actual review rating, it's more objective as it's harder to change a fic by a full point than it is by .03 to move it to the recycling bin.
