That guy was an idiot but it seems like that was one shitty ass roof.
He hit it but he wasn't going that fast, and he certainly didn't hit it that hard for it too collapse the way it did. It looked like he was driving through construction paper.

 

That was priceless... I mean, he payed for that mistake with his life (probably).

Nah I heard both the driver and his son made it out unharmed. If that's true, those two are fucking lucky.

 

If you look at the roof, it falls towards the viewer a bit. It looked like the driver's side got crushed, but I think it just took out the door.

Anyways, I'm not sure if the driver or the architect fail harder.

Seriously, how do you not know that you truck is higher than the roof, and- even more seriously- how the hell do you make a ceiling that would probably tip over due to gale force winds?

If you look carefully you can see the door on the far side of the truck open. A person steps out just as the roof comes down.

 

Vehicles, no matter how slowly they're moving, pack an amazing amount of force. And really, it's just a permanent canopy, not designed for morons to be hitting it like that. Also that is one of the worst places to hit it, how many people think about the impact point being the roof? Band-wagoners.

Also, who gave this moron a license?

 

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, I would expect.

No engineer or architect would bother to design for that much lateral load, especially since even wind loads would barely affect the roof laterally with that much open space around it.
