    I lolled.

Evanna is perfect for her part and she's cute.
But the thing that plays Ginny is too plain, you could find something like it at a stable.

The chick on the right is what I kinda expected Ginny to look like, but sadly she's missing the freckles and doesn't know English. meh.

I can't understand how they got it so pitch perfect casting Luna, and then failed so epically on Ginny.

Granted I hate the character of Ginny, she is only second to Eragon in Mary Sue-ness. But allegedly she's very pretty and many guys dig her (a sure sign of Mary Sue).

I guess they just had to cast on what they knew of Ginny, poor, shabby, and probably only good for breeding.

Not their fault. Wright wasn't epically ugly in PS. They didn't expect her to turn out as she did.

There's also the probability (as has been mentioned) that they didn't think it was that important for her to be good-looking. They were probably expecting a H/Hr pairing, only to have JKR throw H/G at them like a thunderbolt out of the blue in HBP. Also, before HBP, she never was described as pretty or remotely good-looking. Ginny was just a wallflower Harry never really gave a damn of. Well, before JKR went into full Mary Sue mode and turned her into "The Hawtest Girl in Hogwarts".

    That.

They had also wanted to make a love story for Dumbledore, but we know what happened there...

I still don't buy that point. Leaving out that, if you read carefully, from PoA on out the tendency was clear that Hermione was interested in Ron rather than Harry -- if Rowling was talking with the directors about the films and able to nix that Dumbledore-story, then why couldn't she tell them that there'd be no H/Hr? Or to take more care with the Ginny-cast?

That'd be the first thing I'd ask if I was the director, if I'm talking with the author already. The love-interest of the main character. Really, the only excuse I'll give those film-people is that Bonnie Wright wasn't that ugly in PS/CoS (although she still looked nothing like I imagined Ginny)

And didn't Rowling take a look at the casted people, too, and approved?

Other than that, they fucked up the casting, simple as that. The same thing with Fleur, and in opposite way with Emma Watson, who's too pretty for Hermione, in the last movies. Hermione is plain, only somewhat nice-looking if she puts as much effort in it as she did for the Ball. From what I remember of Watson, she's nice-looking on a regular basis (but then, it's been ages since I watched a HP movie)

If you listened to a few of the 'behind-the-scenes' things, you'll find that only Evanna Lynch, who plays Lovegood, reads the books as closely as we do. The rest are fans, but not really the Fanfiction type. Therefore, I don't even think that any of the actors but Lovegood, who came in sometime right before the sixth book I think, had read close enough to see that Hermione/Ron were pretty much set to happen since the fourth book.

But I'd say that Luna/Harry wasn't out of the picture. That I would have loved to see, and it would have worked better than Harry/Ginny...

The production of the movies in general were a ploy to get more people to buy the books, IMO. Nobody would read the stories if they thought that they could glean everything they needed to know about the series from the films. In this day and age, with all of the resources and talent that people pour into big budget films, there's absolutely no reason at all that Rowling and WB couldn't have made a real, true-to-the-series blockbuster. Even barring the "no non-Brits" rule, it would've been painfully easy to craft a story and cast characters that reflected the series properly.

It didn't even have to be 100%, it could have at the very least been "LotR close".

To be fair, I've known girls that have gone through a completely fugly stage and come out decent on the other side, there may be hope yet.

But gotta say shes around makeup artists and beauty professionals all day... why the hell does nobody tell her that that hair cut would look better on Dobby?

How can people not see that Luna is as annoying or even more annoying than Ginny and Hermione?

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't want all my conversations with my girlfriend to involve the ravings of someone half crazy.

Truthfully, I like Ginny more than either Luna or Hermione, but I still dislike all of them greatly.

I actually liked the movie Luna far more than the book Luna however. Canon Luna pisses me off.

Sorry to disapoint you all, but Lynch is actually... not that good looking.

You can't really say that though, Lord of the Rings was an epic film, I agree, probably the best film to be released, the sheer effort and effects that went into it made it so, however LOTR doesn't stick to the books as much as it should have, I won't turn this into a LOTR thread, but just a few examples:

    - Aragorn didn't have Andúríl until film three, whereas he has it in the council in the books
    - Arwen is in the films to much, she takes Glorfindel's place and Elrond vehemently rejects the notion of Arwen staying for Aragorn.
    - Faramir's character is all fucked up, he is wise in the books and he is portrayed to be weak in the film and tries to take the ring from Frodo
    - The scouring of the Shire is missed out, and I feel it was quite important.

I still love the LOTR films, but you can't really say that the HP movies should be close to film LOTR as LOTR missed out so much, added in so much which wasn't canon, perhaps even more than HP, the only difference is that the actors loved LOTR and spent three years on it.

The Harry Potter films merely need to stick to canon, not add idiotic things in, have all the really needed scenes actually in the film, such as the actual prophecy, Harry talking to Nick, Dumbledores office scene. Then the films might actually be half decent, although I would enjoy a half-decent cast, the only people I think are cast correctly are: Luna, McGonagall and Cho, perhaps Richard Harris as Dumbledore, but I would prefer Ian McKellen.

She's not incredibly hot-hot-hot, but she has an innocent quality, and she is very pretty, but I think Luna was fab.

That picture doesn't really do her justice. There are better ones of her. I don't think she is very pretty or cute either, but she is infinitely better looking than Wright.

Are you talking about canon? Unlike Luna or Hermione, canon Ginny has no character whatsoever. She was just a minor character with stricken with fangirlism and had barely any lines in the first five books before becoming a cardboard shallow Mary Sue from HBP onwards.

I fail to see how her character can be better than the other two, when she has pretty much none.

But it doesn't even seem like the HP movie directors/screenwriters are even TRYING. They're just THIS side of a Tom Clancy movie. (Who incidentally had the BEST line in a commentary. Ever.)

I dunno. I like what I see in that pic. And even still, 100% better than Wright.

Old Dumbledore was almost pitch perfect. The one from PoA on, is about one of the worst travesties in casting, not involving Ben Affleck.

I've always viewed her crazy as more of an affectation, rather than real crazy. And even still, crazy looks good on some girls. Psycho, however doesn't. And Ginny's got boatloads of psycho.

What the fuck, Midknight? That's Evanna Lynch? Isn't that child pornography? I think it's just a lookalike.

Midnight...NSFW is always a good thing to add...

Anyways, Kai Shek, you picked the absolute worst pic of Evanna out there. I believe she probably tried to make herself look attractive, and tried a bit to hard. I also think red lipstick doesn't work for her. In other words, you picked one of those pics you see in the back of a trashy magazine talking about how bad some actress' choice of apparel was.

Oh, and Reyhkt, I guess it is a difference of opinion, but I thought she looked cute as hell, and I also like the irish accent. Yes, her voice isn't as quiet, but I think she has gained some confidence as an actress. I don't like her because she looks and acts just like Luna Lovegood. I like her solely because she is cute and a good actress. As I have never met her in real life I can't go on any more than that...
