FF.net has updated the stats page on the user CP, as well as adding a new tab called "Reader Traffic", in which you get to see graphs like story hits broken down by country of origin.

Pretty useless for me, as my stats are rather low, but it'd be interesting to see someone like jbern's or nonjon's.

My stats are also pretty modest by shezza/nonjon/jbern standards, but I'll share some observations.

The traffic feature has only been around for a little while, so the statistics aren't great.

An amusement is checking out some of the more obscure places where folks are clicking one's stuff. I've apparently got a following of sorts in: Pakistan (45 hits, 12 visitors so far this month), Barbados (36 hits, 4 visitors), Namibia (6 hits, 2 visitors), Iran (4 hits, 2 visitors) and Faroe Islands (3 hits, 2 visitors). No Micronesia though--anyone got a Micronesia hit yet?

Aside from that, there's no real surprises. Hit rates are consistent with what I've noticed (around 25k/month when I'm not putting out updates on a story). I'm drawing about 8k visitors/month, which means a sizable fraction are reading chaptered stuff.

 

Nope, I got someone from Bulgaria though.

 

It's interesting that it keeps track of the hits and visitors, which is nice because in the original stats I was always curious about the significance of the hits. I am curious about why they added this function, as...I suppose you could receive some ego stroking from it but it most cases it doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose.

But the others are right, some diverse group of reviewers. I was a little surprised at the German numbers. The main English speaking countries were up there, but Germany surprised me, particularly for it being an English fic.

Wish I knew enough German to brush up, my only phrase (besides the usual good morning etc.) is Beer, please. Ein bier Bitte. And should I ever make it out that way, at least I'll be prepared.

 

I haven't got many hits, considering I'm pretty new at actually writing, but..

I've got some in : Indonesia -39/13, Hungary 19/10, Romania 15/7, United Arab Emirates 12/5, Estonia 9/2, Czech Revr. 7/2, Brunei 5/4, Lithuania 3/1, Guam 1/1, Trinidad 1/1. That's about it, though.

 

Haven't written on the Star Wars account for ages, but I just checked to see:

Don't update for a couple of years and you can still get moderate hits, I guess.

 

I've noticed that when you're posting new fic and keeping your username at the top of C2s, favorites, and such then all of your stories get significantly more hits.

Too much scrolling to bother trying to make a screenshot, so I just saved the HTML (and added one line about base HREF). Can't attach HTML here, so it's zipped.

I'm too lazy to try and copy all the weird countries in my reader stats but a few that caught my eye were 'Moldova, Revar of', Czech Revar, Syrian Arab Revar, Libyan Arab Jahmahiriya, Netherlands Antilles, and just one hit in Iraq.

Actually, anyone know what "Revar" means? Revolutionary Army seems unlikely but I'm going with that for now.

For the month of 2008-08, there have been a total of 41,835 Hits and 10,605 Visitors to all of your stories.

I usually get between 3-4 thousand hits a day and about 800 visitors a day.

 

I too am far too lazy to make a screenshot, or even to save the page.

For August, I have 9889 Hits and 3584 visitors.

The Top 10 Countries for me are (in order): USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Philippines, India, Sweeden, Singapore, Germany, and Finland.

There is, apparently, one guy in Kuwait who's clicked on my stuff 20 times.

 

I suspect the Iraq hits are through civilian internet; I got a PM the other day from a Marine claiming to be in Iraq who was apparently reading my stuff (he added a story to his favorites), but I don't have any Iraq hits this month. I suspect military who browse are routing through .mil and show up as USA. I know that's how their physical mail is routed (or at least it was 16 years ago, when I dated a USAF Lieutenant who got herself stationed up in Thule, Greenland).

Granted, I only have one, short WIP, but still.

The somewhat typical countries top the charts; USA, UK, Canada, Aus, and Germany.

The only one that surprises me in the least is Germany.

Netherlands follows.

A number of random nations - islands in particular - round off the back end.

It's much better than usual. As for the visiting countries, USA is first and France comes second, but that's because I updated and abandoned a French translation I had up for 2 years (sorry, Taliath ).

 

I see Germany, France and then Europe. Anyone else thinking that doesn't make sense?

And you shouldn't be too surprised about Germany. Speaking english is common here and english classes are mandatory in school. Add to that the fact that there is much more english fanfiction than german and you know why you get so many hits.

 

August Stats: For the month of 2008-08, there have been a total of 10,659 Hits and 4,141 Visitors to all of your stories.

My number is skewed high though, because I updated my Naruto fic on Monday evening and got almost four thousand hits throughout yesterday. As far as reader nationalities go, mine generally follow the same trend as I'm seeing from other authors here (predominantly U.S., followed by U.K., Australia and Canada and so on).

 

I serve a very small group of readers :| and I didn't update for quite some time.
