With over 33,000 fics on FFN and midnight releases, in many ways, these are the new Harry Potter.

Has anyone read them? Does anyone like them?

Do you think they’ll become big on a Harry Potter scale?

For the record, I hate the insipid crap.

I haven't actually read the book itself, but from the description on the wiki it seems like a overused plot; Ordinary girl falls in love with Vampire who just so happens to not drink human blood, and regular girl eventually wanting to become a vampire.

Might be better than anything I could write, but I just can’t seem to like it.

Hmmm... To be honest, that last thing I read on these lines was the Darren Shan series. Couldn't judge it unless I read it.

Anyone know if the ebooks can be found?

I know a girl who is obsessed with the books, yeah it is pretty cliche. It has mroe romance then HP, less magic. Don't forget about werewolves, they are in there too. And yes, vampires and werewolves have a fierce rivalry, and they are both lusting (romancing, if you ask a fan girl) after the main character.

I've read them, because my friends raved about them, and I'm of the opinion that they suck. A lot. Melodramatic and boring drivel. Almost all the characters are Mary Sues, and the main character is a bitch who spends half her time whimpering about her "love that could never be", and the other half whimpering about how much it sucks to be her because she can't choose between the two guys who love her (for no good reason).

And for the latest book... let's just say that it is painfully clear it was written by a Mormon. In a sentence: "dickwad werewolf forms disturbing soul bond with day-old-baby, who is also the daughter of the girl he spent the last three books angsting over" is the least of it.

I honestly don't get the fascination with this series: it's mediocre at best.

And don't get too excited about the midnight release thing, Death. They're also having one for the new Eragon, I believe.

The sex scenes in the last book were indescribably lulzy, though.

Edit: This review sums it up pretty well. It's also pretty funny.

I've read them and can't for the life of me reason out why people are so obsessed with them. I think the only originality was in the vampires skin. They sparkle in direct sunlight... Other than that, it's the cliche "Girl falls in love with vampire" thing.

I don't think they'll be Harry Potter scale. Or at least, I hope not. Especially with the fucked up pregnancy thing where the werewolf falls in love with the baby. That's not something I'd want young kids to read, honestly. But more than that, there were so many plotholes to the lore the author made. That, coupled with the whole rushed feel and mediocre writing make the series suck.

There is a movie, though I haven't seen much on it. I've heard it's going to be epic fail.

I doubt It's going to be anywhere near a successful as Harry Potter. Even though Harry Potter is a children's book, it can still appeal to a lot of different people. Twilight is just crappy Romance set in a Fantasy world. You could take out the fantasy element, twist it a little and still have a book that would function plot-wise.

Yes, they are in some ways the new Harry Potter...they are the new Harry Potter that brainless fangirls are reading.

Two high school girls who work in my office read these and mentioned that I would like them because I like Harry Potter.

Then they went on to tell me that the romance in Deathly Hallows was so well written and marvelous, and that HBP/DH were the best books in the series, and how they're so great and...

I barely refrained from smacking them, hard, in the face. The premise sucks - lol, vegetarian!Vampire! And from what I understand that is what they retardedly call a vampire who drinks animal blood, not human blood - and the whole thing reeks of HP fangirl. Guess they got bored with SIYE, portkey, ginnypotter, etc.

Vampire + Sparkle = Trashy romance novel for teens too embarrassed to buy a real one.

Guys have porn, girls have this shit. And just like women wouldn't want a portno flick becoming widespread and mainstream, men don't want this drivel infecting literature.

In short: kill it with righteous fire.

I made a trade with someone. If they would read the Dresden Files, I would read a series they wanted me to.

I'm stuck reading the Twilight series. It's not completely horrible... but there are a whole lot of things that are just... bad. Sparkly Vampires. Lol, werewolves! Enough angst to make every fangirl in the world sigh in adoration. I don't necessarily like it, but I'm going to be able to struggle through it to advance the Dresden cause.

I bought the book over the weekend & for the life of me can't figure out why.

I think it was because of all the hype just like when HP came out but I was interested in reading HP & got hooked but with Twilight I can bring myself to open it.

Maybe my subconscious is telling me it's not worth it. Who the hell knows, I keep having the debate with myself should I read it or let it collect dust.

To be honest I actually liked the books. Yes, it's an overused plot and very fangirlish, but it's well written and will keep you engaged into the story. But it's a pretty good chance it will at least end better than the HP series.

Yeah, comes out sometime this next week. It might be actually good. The guy who's directing it is pretty decent, so the chance is that he won't screw it up.

A friend of mine is crazy about this series, but as soon as she recited the premise to me I had the urge to laugh. How many times has this one been done before, exactly?

Saw the movie. Sucked donkey balls so...

    :wizard: BUMPED :wizard:

And yes, I got approval from the great masticator himself...
    Vash.

Now before you take away my man card, I went to see it on a date. This has filled up my chick flick quotient for the forceable future.

This movie is the epitome of all chick flicks. Its like they took every harlequin romance novel, every vampire seductress vignette, and emo tastic fanfiction and condensed it into this 2 hour suckfest.

It was so freaking cliche I think my anus started to bleed from getting reamed so badly.

There was the protagonist, Bella. A pale skinned raven haired girl who was socially awkward. Men wanted to be with her, women wanted to be her. She is the talk of this small town and every one knows her name.

But wait, she is unassuming and sees herself as plane old vanilla. That last bit was a portrayal from the books which I tried to give a chance but failed. She cannot see her "Beauty" and spends half her time gasping for breath as she is in the presence of her love interest. Edward

    It gets worse...

    the love interest:

A pale skinned, eternally 17 year old boy with goku like brown hair and snow white skin is her emo tastic ying to his gothfag yang. Some classic Edward lines

" I feel very protective of you..."
" You need to stay away from me..."
    " I can't stay away from you..."
" I'm sorry I put you in danger."
    " I'm a monster."

His insipid one liners are pretty much straight out of the book and he some how brings them down to a new level of craptastic glory.

Oh and lets not forget. He sparkles in the sunlight.

The supporting cast was ok in that they made the best out of a horribly disgusting series.

Honestly i actually had to catch myself as I couldn't keep a straight face while watching it in theaters. I snicered and giggled when tweens around the theartre were swooning at the "Romance". I was forced to go home and find a cam to rewatch scenes at the insistence of my date because she felt I did not see them for the romantic portrayals of love that they were.

The only reason to see this movie is for a laugh and the girlfriend. And even then... if your like me, you wont be able to keep a straight face the entire time. You'll chuckle at scenes that will no doubt make your date very irate.

Oh and the only good part in the movie, that didn't suck I suppose was when Edwards vampire sister who comes off as a kind of bubbly luna like character at the end jumps on the villains back and starts ripping the guys head off. Though you don't see it, it is shot very well and makes the vampires look like a pack of animals as they dismember their enemy.
