Because he can. And it's funny as hell.

Latest chapter was good. The fallout from the chapter before was handled well, the consequences logical and presented in a way that makes sense. I especially like it that the Philosopher’s Stone is out of the way. The author completely scrapped the plot of the first year with that, which makes it one of the most original attempts I have seen in ages.

A good measure of the worth of a story is its title.

If the following words exist in the title: dark, pleasure, temptation, insane, evil, blood, etc then you can be reasonably sure it was written by a sixteen year old excited about rebelling against the norm and writing dark fiction for the first time.

And yes, I know this personally.

How does this piece of crap have two stars?

I thought the story was the depraved fantasies of a 12 year old and everyone else would see it as such, but after reading the reviews apparently I was wrong.

I guess there are other depraved 12 year olds too lazy to type out their fantasies.

Lol. I dunno which I like more, depraved or repulsive. Look, fags. It says Dark Arts there for the DLP category. That's the original heart of the site. And this is a quintessential Dark!Harry (regardless of whether it's a well-written one or not).

So go talk about the technical aspects of the writing, debate the cliché-ness, list the scenes that failed and why -- but don't say it fails because your poor, sensitive feelings got butthurt while reading the story. In that case, you're on the wrong fucking site.

    Is this Mugglenet or what?

And if you wanted to diss me with that comment as well: I refute the notion of being either twelve or too lazy too type what I think into a story. It takes some time, admittedly, but it gets there.

Fuck, comments like that make me really want to go all out my story >.<

    Go ahead! Go to town!

The sad state of the writing alone is enough to condemn the story to the Recycle Bin, so everything else you said is superfluous. The thread is done for all intents and purposes. Done.

But whatever. The quintessential material here has been done before in fics already in the library. Badass Harry at Hogwarts. What else does this fic offer? (Imeanasidefromremarkablyblatantpedophilia)

Even if I somewhat agree with the ideal subject matter of the Dark Arts, the reason people don't complain about squicky stuff is because of the presentation. Take Equal and Opposite by Amerision and how it handles a very interesting variation on narcissism. Or Vash and incest.

I don't know what the motherfuck happened with Demon God of Chaos and his stories. I guess the standards were lower those days, when DLP was still in the excitement over the darker aspects stage.

This guy just failed at the presentation. I wouldn't have minded children sexing each other up had he written it well, but that was far from it. He uses some higher-end words, yes, but for some reason the writing just seems slovenly. For example at the beginning of chapter three there is some parallelism - Snape calls a student, and that student recites a rule - but it just fell flat.

The sole basis for recommendation was a scene that you thought was awesome because you never read the Animagus getting killed in their animal form scene before. Which is not at all uncommon.

This story doesn't even make a pretense at being library-worthy.

    ^ That are reasons.

Yeah. And the thing is, since I came into reading FF so late, I'm apparently still somewhat stuck there. Not that I mind it, but it might produce the odd thread like this. And I don't mind them getting trashed either, as long as (new) people don't start cockblocking Dark Arts stuff by default.

Okay I read past the first chapter which i thought was good, I am repulsed but at the same time I can see this fic in the Restricted section.

Restricted section does not have many fics there anyway so this would work out alright, even if this one has more dark arts than smut.

No. Just because a section of the library doesn't have as many fics in it as others do, does not mean you lower the standards for a fic to get into it to fill it up. -__-

This definitely isn't library material, and perhaps not even trash bin material, but it definitely does have some lulz moments. Mainly overshadowed by the cliched horribleness, but it got a little better in later chaps.

Honestly I am starting to doubt the entertainment value of any of the fics that are in the DLP library.

What it all comes down to is a popularity contest I guess. You like an author you give him a point up, you don't you fuck'em.

This fic has a lot of problems, but can I list about 20 others off the top of my head I scrolled through in the library that didn't even make me want to go past paragraph two.

I am not flamming anyone, its just fact.

4/5, I just read a really shitty Dark Art story on DLP library, guess which one it is? Oh right. Half of them.

You just invalided everything you said about the library being full of shit when you gave this bundle of fecal matter of 4/5.

GTFO btw. The library is allegedly already overflowing with shit, why not make it worse!

    Fucking jackass.

Brilliant defense. Really. Your opinion is correct, obviously the few hundred people that submitted their votes in the Dark Arts section to give those stories 4/5+ ratings were out of their minds.

5/5 for this story, without question.

@Sesc: WTF? Dark Harry fics should always be quality, whether cliche-ridden or original. This =/= quality, mein freund.

If we like an author it's because the author wrote a good story; that's the only way to really "like" any author. It's the internet, so it's not like we can say, "He's a shitty author, but he's a really swell guy irl so I really like his story!" Everyone who's commented on this story has read it for themselves, and formed their own opinion. Some found it funny (not just the OP), many did not, but the common denominator is that we read it and formed our own opinion. Even if there are stories we don't necessarily like, most members here are able to recognize and acknowledge a well-written story.

So fuck you and your noise about only reading two paragraphs into a story and "popularity contests". Just because there might be other fics on this site that suck ass (all of which are in the recycling bin) doesn't mean that this story didn't waste precious minutes of my life - or that I should somehow suck it up and plow through this queef-storm just because there are other, more horribi-bi-bi-bi-ble, unspeakable works of fangirl nonsense out there.

But in the spirit of second chance's (and Sesc's awe'thum teaser), I did, in fact, try this story again. Guess where this belongs? Oh right - in the recycling bin. Barely. Ignoring the thought of anyone under 13 being able to fuck anything:

    - the cliched letter (and money, weapons, etc) left over from Harry's parents
    - the Knowledge Market (are you kidding me?)
    - goblins being able to cast the Fidelius Charm
    - Shopping trips
    - Contact lenses that work like Moody's eye (which clashes with the ritual that supposedly enhanced his eyesight like whoa)
    - animals not native to England (his snake pet)
    - The "Hogwarts food being bad" cliche, just because Fleur turned her nose up at it in GoF
    - Parselmagic
    - Retarded made-up spells, with author's notes explaining said spell
    - Generally having Harry act like a foul-mouthed little cunt, yet talk about having a sophisticated taste for cuisine, clothing, and culture in general

And that's just two chapters in. All of this wouldn't matter, however, if it was written well. Which it wasn't. I don't equate "good story" with "skipping over the mistakes and lingering on the parts that make me lol/fap".

    Rating still stands at 1/5

I know perfectly well that I'm not a great judge of smut, but it seems like Vash at least got something right in his fics with 'adult scenes' - at least they sound better than the tripe this author tries to serve up.

Now that I've got that out of the way, the story is... meh, I guess it's okay. Nothing special in my opinion. I mean, there's a few original ideas, but there's no way an eleven year old, no matter how smart he is, is that skilled. Books don't equal combat experience in my book - nor do they equal sexual experience either. Liked the kill, though - relatively well engineered and a bit original.

What bothers me a LOT is the characterization of Harry. In my opinion, if you're going to make Harry go dark, he would be closer to the icily sadistic or terrifyingly meticulous character that Andromalius or Vash or Shezza created in their fics. This... I'm sorry, I can't ever see Harry come off like a sex-and-Dark-Magic-addicted bastard with no rationale behind his actions. Other stories at least bothered to create motive - this story didn't seem to bother.

1.5/5, just because of that, with a potential to go up if he publishes a new chapter and gives Harry motive behind his murder and rape.

The A/N for the first chapter made me laugh, but otherwise it's pretty poorly done. I was making fun of it on IRC yesterday, lol, had no idea it was already posted up here.

People like those authors for a reason. Do you have any idea it might be?

Here's a hint: It has to do with writing Library-worthy stories.

I also agree with angelofdreams on the characterization front. This is a really unsympathetic portrayal of Harry. The author tried to go for a dark!Harry, but for some reason this Harry is only sleazy.
