I spent 5 minutes waiting for it to load. Then I remembered I could use google to do the work for me. I want those minutes from my life back.

A very important similarity that was not mentioned, they both had hot moms, (I refuse to accept that random chick in the Mirror of Erised in the films as Harry's mother, she is distinctly lacking in hawtness).

There are two vital differences, firstly and most importantly Harry Potter has more hotties! Although it does lack Carrie Fisher in a weird fetish bikini.

Secondly, Luke Skywalker does something to help fight the terrible and evil antagonist besides dieing. And he has a lightsaber... which equals instant win.

    No.

Living in Surrey = living on Tatooine? One of the better comparisons, which is pathetic when you realize that 'stranded hero living away from where he'll make his destiny' is a standard fantasy trope.

Hagrid = Kenobi. What? Hagrid is a Wise Old Mentor? Yes, they both pluck the hero from Nowheresville and tell him some things, but Hagrid had a negligible impact on Harry's magical schooling and the information he told Harry was nothing that Harry's wouldn't have learned on his own from five minutes exposure to the Wizarding world.

Quidditch player = pilot is OK. Hagrid wasn't a personal friend of James, though, nor did he train him.

Ron = Han Solo = LOL.

Hermione = Leia. Hmm. Possibly, if you mean 'sex object for young nerds.'

The largest paragraph makes no sense. It's comparing the climax of A New Hope with an event that is not the final of Philosopher's Stone. The destruction of the Death Star led to the defeat of the Empire, and significantly advanced the cause of the Rebellion. Harry winning the Quidditch match led to... winning the House Cup.

So the hero defeats the villain, who did something bad to him when the hero was younger. Wait - which fantasy book have you not seen this in?

House Cup = Awards Ceremony. Yes. Both heroes do get rewards as a result of winning their particular battle. See the above question.

He's just destroying the fact that someone could find this funny.

I mean, look at this quote from Orson Scott Card [Author of Ender's Game]

Now, the two books are completely different, and Card is a jackass for just implying that Rowling stole 'his' plot. Despite that, there are similarities between anything in the young-adult fantasy genre. If you want to know more, go here:

Beware clicking too many things that feel interesting. You'll waste too much of your time :)

More specifically Zarent they all originate from the tradition of the Hero of a Thousand Faces.

Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising. E.R. Eddison's The Worm Ouroboros. Interestingly, that last has characters use the term "Middle earth" in its original meaning of the known world.

The Dark Elf series is different than both of those, though it's definitely not 100% original.

    Touche.

However very little is completely orignal these days was more my point. Its the little twists and differences that make or break the stories and characters.

The comparisons between HP and Star Wars are nothing compared to the major ripoff that is the Inheritance trilogy which while well written and rather enjoyable is basically LotR meets Starwars.

I'm not sure I would call the Inheritance Trilogy well written, especially the first one. I haven't gotten around to reading the third one yet. Granted I think the first one was written when the author was 15, so damned fine job for a 15 year old, but that just means he did a LOT better than the majority his age and not necessarily that he wrote a good book. Oh, and yeah, it rips off lots of things like you said.

OP -- I thought it was funny and laughed, I think that's what you were going for.

Try Prince of Nothing, while plot is not that original its somewhat new to fantasy in the execution.

Ombria in Shadows is also very good. And you could try Jack Vance.

Dusk and Dawn a 2 book set by Tim Lebbon is pretty decent as well. Not a recommended read while under the influence of drugs... Your mind tends to wander cause the description of some shit is wtf worthy.
