Saw it a few hours ago... fucking loved the movie. Very true to the graphic novel, musical score was slightly jarring at times but pretty much stayed consistently awesome. And some of the action scenes were purely kick-ass (then again, it is from the guy who did '300'). 5/5 from me, and it would probably be higher considering all the little political jokes, name dropping, and sheer lulzy moments that sent a shiver down my spine.

 

Trying to compare the movie ending and the comic ending is like to compare apples and oranges, it just doesn't work all that well.

That, and the movie ending is just as ridiculous as the ending of the comic.

 

Internet cheap rip-off don't fail me now. That's about the only way I'll watch it anyways.

If I can't find a decent version on the internet likelihood is I'll go to the cinema.

I haven't read the graphic novels, nor do I have any idea about plot or characters. So you guys might get an unbiased perspective.

 

Well, I hope you share said perspective with us.

I was a bit bummed out when I first realised the shift in the end, but then I realised that it worked just as well too. I liked the greater camaraderie between Owl and Rorschach in the movie. It made more sense to me considering their history.

 

Just watched it a few hours ago myself.

Personally, I've never read the Watchmen series, so I was a little lost in the whole "ZOMFG they changed it!" aspect that people are mentioning, but what I really liked was the whole character exploration.

They showed lots of meaningful flashbacks and introspection into just about every single character, and they did a damn good job of it.

And, in agreement with with everyone here, Rorschach was fucking awesome.

About 90 minutes in and it's been pretty good so far. It's not incredible but it's still good.

Good film, nothing special had some excellent moments though. The graphic close up physical violence is not something I enjoy but the beat em up scenes are still very fun. Rorsasch was epic, has to be one of my new favorite characters. I'm ambivalent about the ending but it was a good twist.

The romance (or lack thereof) is fucking terrible, she just breaks up with him and suddenly Ubermensch is all heartbroken and whiny. Then she goes and fucks other protagonist all the while learning and trying to cope with the fact that she's a rapebaby.

The soundtrack is pretty poor at times (pan-shot in cemetery and out of tune rendition of hallelujah), but it's pretty good overall.

Overall, seems like a weaker version of Sin City (which I didn't particularly enjoy) with a few good moments. The very last scene has definitely soured it in my mind, and if I had missed it I'd probably rate this film with Spiderman as something OK to watch but not really worth the money to go watch in the cinema. To rent it on a weekend is probably all it's worth

It feels like Watchmen Light to me. That's not an insult. That's just how it comes off to me. But I still liked it. Maybe I'll like the movie more once they have the deluxe extended edition with everything put back in.

The fight choreography and fight scenes in the movie=WIN. They actually fight like how I would expect comic book vigilantes to fight. None of them have actual super strength so there's not godly levels of damage, but the Watchmen can surely beat the shit out of regular scumbags and cops.

And each other.

Christian Bale should fight like this in the next Batman.

Ozymandias vs. Comedian=Happy.
Nite Owl II vs. Ozzy=More Happy.
Rorschach vs. Everything and Everyone=Joygasm.

The movie could have used more Ozymandias, since he was the antagonist, and I like him as a character, but for what he was in, it was good.

Rorschach made the movie. If they had decided to switch things around a little more and make more of the movie like a violent Rorschach detective story, I actually would have been happy.

Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II were also good. Nite Owl II more so.

All in all, for right now, I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater. I liked it, but not enough. It came off a little rushed in the beginning and with the Dr. Manhattan/Laurie parts.

8.5/close 9 from me. The fight scenes and Rorschach made the movie.

 

The fight scenes were not what I expected, but I haven't seen 300. Definitely the best part of the movie.

I too liked the more in-depth friendship between Dan and Rorschach. I was always wondering how Dan felt about Rorschach dying in the comic.

The sex scene between Laurie and Dan felt... unnecessary. And that version of Hallelujah totally killed it. I liked that one from Shrek better. >_>

In fact, the music throughout the movie felt out of place. Good songs, most of them, just not in the right places. The best one so far was the Bob Dylan song in the beginning.

Was it just me, or was Dan and Laurie killing those thugs in that alley fight a little much? I thought that part of Rorschach's character was that he killed criminals - it's what made him separate from the others. Silk Spectre shoving a knife through a guy's neck makes it seem like they're all psychotic killers... though that fight scene was kick-ass.

Dr. Manhattan's voice sounded very soft at first, but made sense as I watched it. He was this brainy scientist before and all, I just figured his voice would've become deeper, or more god-like, after his transformation. Rorschach's sounded a bit too gravelly at first, too, but I came to like it. *shrugs*

Meh. Despite all these little nitpicks, a solid 8.5/10 from me. Eagerly awaiting the DVD release.

I watched it today with a group of friends. It ended up that we were pretty much equally split in our opinions. Some of them commented that it was too disjointed and depressing for their linking. However I enjoyed it. It's one of the better movies I've seen recently, but not as good as The Dark Knight. Halfway through the movie I started to get bored until the action picked up again; it couldn't fully engage my attention through out. The sex scenes had little point and the death of Rorsasch sucked. Besides that it was a nice movie. 8/10

 

Er...yes they do. Or did you miss the punching through walls, super-speed (increase v and you increase p), picking people up and throwing them around stuff?

And yeah, the film is depressing. Not because of the quasi-sad ending, but because I want to be a being like Dr. Manhattan and I never will be And also it reminds me how easily we can still all die from nuclear war.

Rorschach was okay until we saw his face. Then he looked like a disturbed Seth Green. Not really hardcore lol. Also he's a republican.

 

The only thing that the people that I talked to about the movie were able to say was about Dr. Manhattan's dong hanging out all over the place.

If you read the graphic novel there are no super powers aside from Dr. Manhattan. They've just reached a level of physical fitness that enables them to do all of this. I.E.: Ozzy was a world-class olympian in the graphic novel.

 

Movie =/= novel. They've clearly been given superpowers in the movie. No world class athlete can dodge and catch bullets.

 

Dry wall, depends on where you hit it, but anything else, I doubt it.
