    My friend and I are having a discussion which basically boiled down to;

"Did Harry mourn Sirius and Hedwig after their deaths?"

I dont have my books anymore so I can't look it up and I dont remember either way. Help?

Edit: Curse my fat sausage like fingers... The title is supposed to be 'Is Harry AN unfeeling prick?'

I think he did mourn Sirius in OOTP as he asked a ghost about death and what happens and then he talked to Luna who made him feel a bit better, but that is as much as i can recall.

Regarding Sirius -- that was a major reason for his explosion where he trashed Dumbledore's office in anger and pain, so you could hardly say he felt nothing, if that was your question. (Edit: There was that "that makes you human" quote from Dumbledore, upon which Harry almost responded, "then I don't want to be human" -- I always wanted to do a Dark!Harry story based on that ... I just remembered o_O)

The actual period of mourning, later, in the holidays, was skipped. HBP starts with Harry telling Dumbledore that he misses him etc. pp., but that he had realised that Sirius wouldn't have wanted him to get stuck on his death (paraphrasing, I can look up the quote, if you need it).

That was actually something I liked -- remember all those Post-OoTP fics, that started with Harry crying in his room and angsting over Sirius for twenty chapters. They all got bitch-slapped as totally OOC by HBP :p

Regarding Hedwig -- not sure, that's DH >_>

Hedwig was an Owl. I didn't mourn the passing of my last ipod, I bought a new ipod.

That's basically it, but it also states that he spent the holidays until Dumbledore picked him up refusing to eat and staring out the window. Of course it's so terribly written that he goes from an apathetic anorectic to a thriving youth at the Weasleys in a matter of under 24 hours.

Hedwig was more than a simple pet, Hedwig was e-mail.

I gotta agree; I don't think mourning Hedwig compares to mourning Sirius, or even Dobby. Fanon has made the relationship between Harry and Hedwig a bit more important than it probably was.

So no, Harry is not AND unfeeling prick. :awesome

Must you mock me for my fat sausage like fingers!? I hate you all! *sob*

I was of the argument that Harry did mourn, but it wasnt in the spotlight so to speak. My friend thinks Harry is an unfeeling dark lord. But anyway, thank you for your opinions.

Everyone mourns differently of course, but I think it's fair to say that most people IRL don't mourn a la cliche indy!Harry fic: nightmares, extreme guilt, constant sobbing, self-harm... these are not the signs of a normal mourning.

I think most/many people who suffer a loss tend to be shocked about how little they feel, and at how quickly life resumes.

Nah, just signs of crappy fanfic writing.

As for Hedwig... are we serious? Madeye died that night to. Weasley chap lost an ear. Very soon, other people were dying left and right.

Even if Harry would show massive emotional distress at the loss of his owl normally (and more importantly, if it would be worth writing about), he would look really heartless whining about his bird when actual people were dying at the same time...

Some people just move on after a brief period of mourning. I was glad this was the case after seeing about a million stories after OotP where Harry is basically crippled with anguish for someone he hardly knew.

I wanted a tear like the Native American in that pollution commercial. A single tear sliding down your cheek is considered adequate emotion displayed.

Remember Anakin in Star Wars 3?
