No one is ever referred to in canon as 'Lord', save for the Dark Lord. Ever!

There is no wizard nobility. It doesn't even serve any useful purpose in stories where it is used, save for making everybody sound more important than they really are.

    Stop it. It's retarded.

Related: Voldemort is the only person to refered to as the Dark Lord. "Dark Lord" is a title created by Voldemort for himself, and is not some kind of official or magical title. Grindelwald is not referred to as a Dark Lord, but a Dark wizard, as are all other Dark wizards in history, no matter their influence or power.

(That said, I am writing a story with Lords in at the moment lol. But it's the central plot point, so it does serve a purpose.)

Don't we have a pet peeves thread just for this kind of thing? IIRC it has gotten on to its fourth incarnation at this point.

He most likely read a story whereas Harry after coming into his inheritance was henceforth called Lord Potter (-Black). In addition inherited 99% of the wizarding worlds business along with a gazillion galleons. It does get tedious reading that.

You mean like 75% of all inheritance stories where Harry becomes the lord of every house that he knows of along with all the founders.

I can see why he can't stand it. I agree, it does get tedious after reading it for the tenth time alone. It's also tedious to see everyone use Gringotts.

Thankfully, Snape's moniker never caught on, and we don't see Prince's running around left, right and center.

Someone should do a fic about Hermione her Mudblood Majesty.

I was surprised there weren't more stories about Snape's moniker.

That's what exactly we need though Vlad, someone later on in Hogwarts finds a book in some class with the title: The Mudblood Queen inside.

Actually it was that Thieve of Hogwarts story.

Neville Longbottom may seem to be a pre-teen schoolboy with little in the way of skills or intellect, but if he suddenly becomes 'Lord Longbottom' he seems like a real man about town.

I've always hated this crap, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Also, I hate that marriage contract shit, but that's for another day.

EDIT: Oh, and if we have a pet peeves thread it's news to me.

Frankly, were I Harry, I would just insist that everyone refer to me as King Harry, just so that I would be higher ranking than Voldemort.

  11. I already posted my theory on the Lord Black thing in the challenge thread,
    But that's still a half-assed explanation.

Out of curiosity, how do we know that the Blacks are the largest and therefore the richest? I mean the Malfoys are worth roughly 1.8 billion, according to Forbes. I mean the Blacks are big, but that's because we always here about them, off the top of my head the Blacks I can think of are..
Sirius, Regulus, Andromeda, Narcissa, Bellatrix, Mrs. Black, Tonks, Phineas.

The Waltons are pretty rich and respected, doesn't mean anyway refers to Rob Walton as 'Lord Walton'.

There is no reason to think there is wizard nobility, and every reason to think there isn't.

Moreover, there is no reason for there to be wizard nobility, except to give the fic an air of faux-Britishness. It's instafail in my book.

Until Rowling comes out in an interview, and says there are Lords. It's not like she hasn't done this sort of thing before.

On the contrary, Lupin in canon explicitly states there is no such thing as wizarding nobility. It's where Harry asks him about the Half Blood Prince.

Really? care to find the quote?

I always had the impression that that Lucias Malfoy was called Lord Malfoy my Fudge or someone, and everything else was Fannon.
But I think I remember Dumbledore reffing to him as Mr Malfoy in book 2, and hes old fashioned enough to use a title if he had one.

I suppose you could have some Wizarding family's marrying into nobility, or just muggleborns being born from them.
That would make a interesting plot device, having a muggleborn Nobel rubbing the fact they are 'Lord Whogivesadamn' in the purebloods faces.

    Actually the line goes:

    (HBP, Pg 336)

"Prince," said Harry, watching him closely for signs of recognition.

"There are no Wizarding princes," said Lupin, now smiling. "Is this a title you're thinking of adopting? I should have thought being 'the Chosen One' would be enough.
