So, I decided that my off topic in the most awesome thread in DLP is out of place.

As far as I looked, I couldn't find any stories, where Harry was a healer instead of an Auror. So, me thinks that it might be interesting.

I had a stupid plot bunny about a Harry, using healing spells to fight, but that, as I said, is stupid. I'm not too sure that this idea of mine is good at all, but you guys could be better judges. I get overexcited about things like that :)

Originally, the idea was that after DH, Harry gets an offer from Aurors to join them. Than he thinks before jumping and realises that he doesn't want to keep fighting anymore (which, in my opinion is logical with canon in mind). Here comes the identity crisis. After thinking some, Harry decides that he still wants to help people and the best way for him to do that is healing. He applies to Healer Training Center and gets denied. The reason? We ain't giving some boy wonder without even the NEWT education any chances to screw up with human lives on the line. So, Harry gets pissed off and, for the first time in his life (in my opinion at least), get really determined to get into Healer program. After studying all year, he barely scrapes good enough grades to get in. That would probably take 3 chapters at most.

5 years later, he had finished his training in the upper half of the class and gets a job at St. Mungo's.

Now, there are two ways to go:
    1. A new Dark Lord rises and he heals the wounded while going to the battlefield as a healer/fighter or
    2. The wonderful idea by Tehan with some sort of House/HP xover. I really like this idea better, because it would have more to do with healing.

If we decide that option 2 is better, than we have 2 choices again:
    1. Equalize House with Harry which isn't realistic in my opinion or
    2. Make Harry a part of a team of an eccentric genius healer similar to House's.

Again, I like the option 2 more. There could be something like an increase in strange cases that can't normally be figured out by one healer, so a team is made. One person for illnesses, one for Dark Arts related stuff (that would be Harry, I guess), another for poisons and so on.

In your opinion, would Harry be similar to a male Dr. Cameron as a healer?

P.S. I is thinking 1 chapter per medical case.

Jbern's done a scene or two of healing in "Lie I've Lived".

I'm working on a different kind of "chapter-per-case" story about Harry at Auror Academy and as a working Auror. Good luck, as it's tough to keep it different and interesting, especially when most people would get bogged down with the medical details.

Well, this certainly looks interesting. I know for a fact that Healer!Harry can be done well, if you don't let the medical details bog you down.

    Fact.

Damn you, General, I knew that I shouldn't have clicked that one but couldn't help myself... *sigh. I am scarred for life now.

Well, not really. If there is one thing DLP is good for, it's growing thick e-skin.

Medical details would probably be the biggest problem to figure out. Of course you can always pull the "it's magic" excuse out of your ass if it gets too complicated :)

In my opinion this makes for a really boring story, unless he uses "Being a Healder" to get into bed with any woman between the ages of 16-40. In that case I am all for it. Good luck.

Jbern's healing stuff was actually extremely exciting to read. I'd be highly interested in seeing a house/HP xover though. Mainly just because I love house's character.

I'd be interested in seeing this idea however.

There was one good story with a Healer Harry. I can't for the life of me remember the title, but Harry had his magic taken away from him after killing Voldemort and started his medical career by becoming a doctor. It's better than it sounds, and I know that it was written by another DLP user.

I think you're thinking of Lost Time by Amerision, Insane Juggler (which, by the way, was pretty awesome).

OT : I like the idea, would definitely read it if written. Canon!Harry can't really be likened to House's character, as you said. I think Foreman would be a better fit than Cameron, though. Canon!Harry has shown in DH that he can be quite ruthless, and he's never been too hung up on the rules. Hermione would be more like Cameron, IMO.

Amerison can actually pull it off. I wouldn't use him as a basis that Healer Harry can be an interesting fic, because frankly, it can't. Only one I see working is Vash's Alice's Wonder bar.

Why not just put him on House's team? I think that would be more interesting then creating a whole group of OC's that happen to act like the members of House's team.

If you put Harry Potter on Gregory House's team, where is the magic? You need a really damn good reason to explain why he ended up in USA, living as a muggle too.

Or there could be a medical mystery while House is on vacation, turns out to be magical, therefore he's introduced to the Wizarding World, decides it's kinda sweet, and stays in Britain and joins the St. Mungo's as a consultant.

I've heard better outlines, but I've also heard worse.

That said, I like your original idea - have Harry be part of a team, have the victims suffering strange curses be connected to the new terrorist organization. Have Harry help cure them, and that pisses off the new Death Eaters (or whatever), so they go after him/his family to make a point.

Healers have to get NEWTS in like five subjects - if Harry reaches that point, he'll be far from a helpless wizard, even if he's not a combat god (which he shouldn't be), but more specialized for healing.

After all, the enemy might have to turn to the Killing Curse if Harry keeps countering their magic (from his experience as a curse-treatment expert, perhaps).

Just a few ideas so that you don't necessarily make it a House-with-magic, which wouldn't really be something I want to read.

And if you need any help with the medical stuff, I happen to be an amateur gynecologist, so I'll offer my services to beta read it.

When I see posts like that, I feel like stalking the street with an axe and chopping every living being that crosses my path to small quivering bits. Then I hope I'd have regained enough of my self-control to consider contradicting you without feeling the need to drown you in your own blood.

Oh, and "Healer" doesn't have a 'd' in it.

So you're absolutely sure the way to salvage any boring story is to turn it into a world-sized orgy. You even thought you'd mention that twice in case we'd miss that vital piece of information. Thank you, Zero. Point taken. Now since the story is obviously going to fail as, amazingly enough, Dante doesn't seem to be taking it in the direction you so kindly pointed out to him, maybe you should go evangelise another author. Dante clearly isn't worthy of your luminous intelligence.

Oh, and "Amerision" has two i's in it.

I'd decide against that too. Getting inspiration from House to write a HP story is one thing, writing a full-blown crossover is another. You don't have to create a whole group of OCs, either; the other two will likely be from Hogwarts as well.

And Foreman is way too arrogant to be used as a mould for Harry Potter. I can't stand him.

Healer!Harry is an idea I also had at one point. It can be an interesting story, and not just if you focus on his medical cases. Harry is curious enough to want to investigate an odd death or poisoning case even if it's not his business, and thus, be taken into a whole new intrigue.

    1) This. I'd rather see HP characters in the mantles of House characters than a direct import from the show.

    2) True. Kutner, then, maybe.

    3) Plus, it's not too far removed from House characters' tendency to play at being PI to cure a patient.

I think it's important to decide what area Harry would specialize in. Just as we have nuerologists and gynecologists, wizards would have those that deal with the mind and some that would deal with the Dark Arts. According to the Lexicon, St. Mungo's has floors for Artifact Accidents, Creature-Induced Injuries, Magical Bugs, Potion and Plant Poisoning and Spell Damage.

For a House styled fic, I'd suggest the last three. Magical Bugs is obvious, and would be the easiest as it would be easy to follow a similair format to the show. The same goes for Potion and Plant Poisoning, albeit to a lesser extent.

I think your best bet would be Spell Damage though if your aiming for a rather more fast paced fic. I'm not entirely sure how well it would work with a House styled fic though, as it would probably end up more like a CSI/Diagnosis Murder fic.

    That's sparked an idea.

After the defeat of Voldemort, Harry is unhappy in his job. Being an Auror isn't working out for him like he'd thought it would and the wife/kids are constantly worried about him off chasing dark wizards, so he looks for a job elsewhere and eventually decides to become a healer.

After all, he enjoys helping people and having been an Auror he has a good working knowledge of what curses can do what to start off with, as well as having seen and been through the care of many healers before. So he joins up, trains, and becomes a healer at St. Mungos. Hell, we could even have Harry reclaim the Elder Wand because it could be used for tremendous good in the hands of a healer.

And then we introduce the new terrorist organisation (or what have you) that is devising some particularly gruesome spells to use on its enemies, and Harry just can't stand to see it continue. And hey, he's the Vanquisher of Voldemort, if he could solve all the mysteries and secrets surrounding the Dark Lord (as well as finding all the horcruxes and destroying them) what could one little organisation do?

That sets the stage for Harry to become embroiled in the mystery surrounding this organisation, causing problems at home because of his new obsession, have the terrorists start targeting his friends and family, and eventually have it revealed that the organisation's plan all along was to get Harry involved so that they could claim the Elder Wand from him. The story would get extra points if the Big Bad (as cliché as it sounds) is someone like Neville, who just wants to heal his parents.

I was with you right up to that point.

-It would take some serious explaining to transform Neville from the epitome of Gryffindorness he was by the end of DH to a terrorist.

-As far as I remember (a canon scholar will have to confirm, I've only read DH once 2 years ago) nobody knows about the Elder Wand except for Ron and Hermione.

    - Healer!Harry would have already tried to heal Neville's parents with the Elder Wand, I'd guess.

Also, a Healer!Harry with Neville as the villain ? Who the fuck would read, much less write that ?
    /sarcasm

Meh, that's why I said someone like Neville. It did stretch the suspension of disbelief I'd already built up a lot, but I just dislike fics where the antagonist is just outright evil in everything he does. It's why I'm so displeased with canon. To quote tvtropes, I want a Well Intentioned Extremist as the Big Bad and I've spent way too much time on that site.

That'd be amusing. They use/devise really horrible spells to further Healer development/give healers recognition.

The big bad can be Harry's boss at St. Mungos.

There is a lot, I mean A LOT of slash stories where Harry is a Healer ;)
Idea is not bad, but it has potential to be really boring if not done very well - for me healer!Potter doesn't have the same feel that House M.D. has, it's a lot more mundane and less interesting. But the crossover would definetly be appreciated, as there are absolutely no House/HP ones worthy of reading.
