I am presuming a tiny little training bra girl wrote this. It has all the tell-tale signs, much like a dlp author(m.) has tell-tale signs in how the women are written. Getting past the 'dreamy' Action Heroes 'R Us characterization of Harry is pretty difficult.

Say you take the character as it is written, he still doesn't act the hard paranoid veteran he is portrayed as. "Oh! These guys seem alright, I'll tell them all about the Elder Wand and that I am lost." But wait I am still hard because I cast a blood ward to protect myself from would be Elder Wand hunters.

And the action scenes are cringe-worthy. Though I understand it is hard to write action.

I liked how the Hallows were mixed into the story line. That was the first time something newish popped up. Giles characterization, though formulaic, was alright, same with others.

I'll read more of it because there aren't many good Xovers but man I wish someone with talent wrote one.

 

I did read the first chapter. The first line demonstrates the clumsy grammar that the author uses throughout (ie: “Had you not rushed a head you’d already know.”). It's distracting, and I wasn't willing to read further given that the story doesn't seem all that interesting anyway.

I'm not rating, though, since I haven't read all five chapters.

 

This fic suffers from a lot of problems but if you get past the awful first chapter it's fairly readable. The action is uninspired, the description can be downright awful (the whole Malfoy/Ron/Harry North South East West thing left me gagging), and lots of little niggling things don't make much sense. The characters are flat to varying degrees, though I found myself amused by Willow despite that. And of course, Harry is curbstomping the shit out of the Buffyverse, though his dreams are hinting Glory might be a challenge. Personally, I think you'd need to whip out a fully charged Illyria to give this Harry a good fight, but I guess Glory's much debated Superspeed might be challenging.

All this said, the fic has an interesting Cosmology and magical background in general, believably reconciling magic in both dimensions. The curbstomping is really hard to avoid crossing postVoldy Harry with S4 Buffy, so it's hard to blame the author for that (though it's for this reason I prefer this cross to give the BtVS characters an experience edge if only to soften the curbstomp).

The update rate is nothing to write home about at about 10k words/month, and it seems like it might be stalled. Unremarkable except for not being a complete waste of time in a cross rarely done well. 3/5

Anyway; I read all five chapters and I have to say; its not quite as bad as her HP/Smallville fic; that one I couldn't cope as soon as HP hit the Smallville town. This one is at least mildly entertaining; provided you can ignore the rather bland character interaction. 3/5.

The whole 'silvervain dragon' armor annoys me for some reason . Its a fairly trivial thing to get worked up over - especially in consideration of all the other small things within the fic.

If it were to be counted as a normal fic then I would rate it 3/5. Even then its mainly to do with the rarity of Potter/BtVs crossovers.

 

Well, I just sort of hope somewhere there's a BtVS/HP crossover I could bring myself to like. Good things are said about It's all Relative on the Hellmouth but I could never get into it, and HP & Dawn of the Dead seemed to be plagued by outrageous asspulls. I'd like that PM full of possibly good shit too Oz (Maybe just post it here? it seems everyone reading the thread wants it).

Harry's wacky oft described armor kinda annoys me too, the fic would be improved without it.

Yes, it's from Willow vs. Glory in mid-late season 5. Over the course of the fight, Willow whips out badass Force Lightning, air solidification, and this telekinetic attack with a dozen daggers out of her handbag. Glory shrugs off the daggers, but it was still a pretty cool thing to do.

I don't think Dark Willow could take this Harry though, from what we saw in Season Six she's pretty tough but doesn't seem to be at the Dumbledore/Voldemort level (Short of Act of Plot end of the world-it-tude).

Her main schticks are energy attacks, medium-strength telekinesis, mind control, and Slayer-scale enhanced strength and toughness. She supposedly can't teleport herself, though she can fly and once force-teleported Glory to a random location. It's impressive (in a HP sense) that she can do it all wandlessly and sometimes without even incantations or much in the way of gestures, but aside from being impossible to disarm she doesn't have anything too special.

I'm vaguely curious how she develops as this fic goes on, but I suspect it'll take a while before we see anything.

I remember Shell of the God King now, I think it's abandoned but I liked it for what it was, which is Illyria romping around causing trouble with Harry along for the ride. Wand of Uru is possibly less abandoned but also less enjoyable, though I liked it better than either of the first two fics (Buffy crossing in Uru is rather minimal). Joehundredaire is something of a hit or miss taste though; I tend to be amused by him, but it's all lesbians, all the time.

I think I probably forgot about those two because neither actually has Buffy (or if I remember correctly, any of the main characters aside from a cameo or two) in them.

 

in Season 6, Willow also demonstrated nice homing fireball (against the geek when fighting giles), and you shouldn't forget the long-range rituals like mind wiping and so on.

As for good hp/btvs, i have a soft spot for sojogogo's harry and willow being twin, as well as paradox's 'in the darkness rising' or some such.

 

The author's use of "whilst" not only in place of every possible "while" but also other conjunctions like "although"............. I'm not sure if "while" or "although" occur at all in this story. I know there's a thread (or maybe just a tangent of a thread) somewhere about the use of whilst, but this is just retarded.

Otherwise, EXCELLENT!
