We've talked about it in beta before, now that it's out in final form, who's running it, is it worth switching to XP from, and does it whore resources to fuck and back like Vista?

    Edit: and how's application compatability?

Ive had some pretty good experiences with it. Its not as much of a resource whore as Vista, but it does use more than XP. To be expected, though considering.

Over all, its pretty good and pretty damn stable. What Vista could have been if they've have delayed it to fix it up and shit, instead of trying to capture the market or whatever they were trying to do. >_>

Its just my computer, I think, since Zombie told me he hasn't had any problems with it, but Ive got the same problems I had with vista on 7. Think it may be the video card. >_> Need to upgrade to a newer generation card. :|

    There are only two issues I have with 7;

They fucking took out the Classic start bar. I fucking hate the new one with a passion.

And the themes system sucks balls. Pretty much all you have is the blueish non-aero vista one, the classic 98 theme, and the windows 7 theme that you can alter the colors on. :|

Honestly, I've got it installed, but I'm gonna stick with XP till I get a better video card if it is my card causing my gaming problems. >_>

Edit; >_> Didnt see the edit. D:

Compatiblity is pretty good, actually. A lot better than Vista. The only problem I have is virtual CD shit like Daemon tools and Alcohol 120% don't work with 7 the last time I checked. D:

Otherwise, Ive not had a problem yet.

    SURPRISE EDIT!

    I R DUMB

    I wuuuuuv it.

The classic taskbar can be had with some clever checkbox tricks and rearrangement, but the old start menu is gone forever. And good riddance.

If you're not using Windows Search for everything you're a goddamn fool.

Overall, it's speedy and quick, and easy on the eyes. Give the new taskbar a chance as well. I love it.

    This is me as well.

No it is not a huge resource whore like Vista. 7 is what Vista wishes it was. The task bar, I have definitely warmed up to it. I didn't like it at first but now I think it's excellent. Useless little features like right clicking quick launch icons and seeing the frequent folders accessed and things of that nature, while not a huge selling point, is win in my book.

    Windows Search is win.

And it runs sooooo smoothly. For me at least. I swear it's like programs start when I click on them, something that rarely happened with vista. Not to mention shut down and start up is much better. Start up was god awful with Vista. With 7, as soon as I sign in I can begin opening programs and not have to wait for my cpu to catch up.

And since I upgraded to 64bit I can finally use all of my ram instead of just 3.3gb or whatever.

tl;dr - I'm enjoying it immensely. Great improvement over Vista, yet to run into problems.

I haven't upgraded yet, I really don't want to tempt fate with my laptop as I rather need it to function at the moment. From what I've heard and read so far this pretty much sums it up

Funnily enough, my laptop feeling a little sluggish after the install, I just installed it an hour ago so we'll see how it runs after a couple more restarts.

Not really enjoying the new taskbar, too big for my liking; and unless I'm an utter dumb fuck, I can't see a way to resize it.

The aero peek feature is kinda cool.

Not alot issues with compatability so far, though I also had to get rid of my Daemon Tools 7 like Vash.

All in all? I like it.

It did seem a bit sluggish immediately after install, but right after I did my initial updates, it seems to be running smooth only taking up 9% of my processor power.

Major update from Vista, and I needed something new other than Ubuntu and XP.

    Windows 7 gets my:

I installed it using Boot Camp on my unibody MacBook running Snow Leopard and it's running really, really well.

I just followed these instructions, as far as Windows 7 specific steps went, and the installation was very smooth. Because I have the 64bit version of Windows 7 and Apple claims my computer wouldn't be 64bit capable I had to do a workaround to install the Boot Camp utilities in Windows, but that's not Windows 7 specific anyways.

I would suggest going at least 10gb above the recommended 32gb because Windows 7 took up about 18gb all on its own. *

As far as Windows 7 itself, I have absolutely no complaints. I actually quite like the new task bar and the aero theme is definitely very pretty.

The only problems I've had, and these were all very slight (mainly just system warnings that never amounted to anything), were with applications that used Microsoft Agent.

*EDIT: I should mention that I'm talking about Windows 7 Ultimate, so other versions may well take up much less space.

Well, I have some bad news. You're an utter dumb fuck.

Click on taskbar, and go to properties. Check the box next to "use small icons." That'll knock it down to about half the size it is now, if you're into that.

Overall, I love 7. It flies on both my computers, and it still doesn't skimp on the features. I'm not worried about the lack of custom themes yet, because most of those get made after people have a few months to play with the full version. Freeware stuff compatibility is the same. Just give it time, and we'll see 7 versions of everything.

I've been using Pro for a bit now. I like it tons, and as far as software compat goes, all my games work for it. And if not, they're in development. Everything else works as well, which is a major plus, and its fast as shit on boot up, for me atleast. Which I like tons.

Rebooted after removing a couple programs, runs really smooth now; glad I left Vista behind.

This last link, and the overly hypocritical column, makes me lol.

He contradicts himself over and over again. And when he doesn't, he's merely parroting Linus. I'm still lol'ing over this article.

EDIT: Before you guys get butt hurt, if just seems he sounds butt hurt over the addition of Windows code. MHO

I've recently downloaded win 7 pro from microsoft's college student 30.00 deal thing. Waiting to get another two sticks of DDR2 ram so I can acutally take advantage of 4+GB ram capability as well as a new vid card. (8600 while passable its getting a bit old.)

As far as app compatability? Eh... Though win 7 has technically been released for a while older apps might not have drivers for em like old printers and shit. Which probably means I have to upgrade but whatever.

In other words if your app is not compatable... wait a bit. A driver will show up if its still being worked on.

Wait, have you actually found something that didn't work on 7? For me there was nothing that setting compability mode with XP/Vista wouldn't fix.

Not upgrading until I'm absolutely forced to. Even if you guys all say it's good, I know better than to tempt anything. The moment a good game comes out I can't play, I'll upgrade, until then, it's XP n' me.

Besides, like it's been acknowledged, your computer will take a small performance hit if it upgrades, so why would I want to upgrade? Makes more sense to stick with what I've got until I can't and get a new computer in the future (one that already has Win7 or maybe something better).

Unless there's some amazing feature that Windows 7 has that really makes it easier to manage than XP...

I dunno, being able to control everything in it with your mind is pretty nifty. Makes things a lot faster than having to move the mouse around and type.

Aek, just go to My Computer --> Control Panel --> Inpute Devices --> Windows Mentalism, and set your focus levels higher. It may take a bit of tinkering to get it to a level where you're not getting mind-rape headaches every time you try to do something though. I guess brains aren't plug and play ready devices.
