Starz is coming out with a new "original" series.

So, aside from the obvious 'Gladiator' and '300' theft, what do we think ? Worth watching?

 

Its gonna be good. Theres a reason why Starz has ordered a second season to be made when the first season hasn't been aired yet.

 

Lol, because they're hopeful, and they can at least make money off of a potential (but small) cult following by cancelling and releasing a 2nd season dvd ? I don't know that creating a second season before release is indicative of public reception.

I know I'm sure as hell interested, and probably most of DLP might be, but we also thought Firefly was a great series, soo....*shrug*

 

it's a spinoff of 50 Cent's video game, avoid at all cost.

 

I heard Lucy Lawless' bare breasts have a starring role, but apart from that, I've not heard that much...

 

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is an upcoming Starz original TV series that will premiere in January, 2010. The series focuses on Spartacus, a Roman gladiator , who later became the leader of a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. The show has been advertised as featuring some of the most graphic sex scenes ever produced on television. The violence is also very bloody and it is slated for a TV-MA rating. On December 22, 2009 it was announced that the show was renewed for a second season before even premiering.


To me it seems Starz saw Rome and decided to copy.
Also,

300 was a Greek story, not Roman. And the filming style seems to work for that time period.
Gladiator wasnt historically accurate. The Gladiator was based on Narcissus and Spartacus.
These new shows about the ancient world are working on more accurate than the movies.

Nothing more needs to be said, I'm in. If the woman off of Xena warrior princess and the madame from Club Vandersexxx is showing off her tata's all my adolescent fantasies are coming true.

Saw the trailer a while back and thought it was cool, but that's just icing on the cake.

 

Lucy Lawless is the bomb, that is true. And she does have a kind of psycho-bitch turn in this.

Plus the trailer gives me all kind of 300 vibes, which is good

Its like a cheaper 300 in the graphics area. I might keep watching, but its nowhere near as good as Rome.

 

So, after watching a Spartacus special on NatGeo, I'm thinking of checking this show out. Is it any good?

 

"Spartacus" is like 300 without all the subtlety and nuance.

Entertaining, though.

 

Pretty much this. Don't watch the show expecting an intricate plot, a new look at Roman culture or developed characters (though this to a lesser extent), watch it for the gritty violence and sex.

The negatives of the show aren't bad enough to outweigh the positives so I will be following it at least until Entourage and True Blood come back on.

 

I take it back, this show fucking rules. (It got massively better after the first 3 episodes or so...)

EDIT:

Check this out, from the latest episode (it cuts out before the good part, but Sparty goes on to demolish about 7 legionnaires with his toy sword). If you don't have Starz, you should find *cough*alternative*cough* distribution channels and watch. It's gotten kind of epic lately.

Also, a lot of dick in the first few episodes.

 

The season finale was last night, if anyone hasn't seen this series I'd say watch it just for the last episode of the season.

Much mind blowing will ensue.

The finale was fucking awesome. Spartacus and Crixus tearing through everyone dumb enough to get in front of them. That bitch Lucretia got what she deserved too.
