This story has been going on for a couple of years now but I couldn't find it listed here. Sorry if it was already reviewed and given the axe.

It's over 400,000 words now and a few chapters away from completion. Somewhat slow paced but with some interesting ideas and reasonably believable characterizations. It's far better than the summary suggests and is well written and entertaining enough to hold my interest, though I suppose it could be considered something of a guilty pleasure. I'd say 3.5/5 for now with it possibly trending up or down depending on how the ending plays out.

friendlyMentor!parent!snape, abused!Harry, petsnake, new wand, manipulative!dumbledore, possibly friend!draco (hard to tell, I'm only 20 chapters in and can't take it anymore). If anyone can get further in it, let us know if it gets any better.

The writing is... readable, though the mechanics could use some polish.

    2/5 from me

I honestly would have put this in the barely readable thread. I admit it was a guilty pleasure fic until the part where Harry gets a muggle girlfriend who happens to be Seamus' cousin. At that point I slapped myself twice for reading the fic as long as I did. The fact that it is 70+ chapters is fail. Half of them could have been scrapped and you would still have the same story.

Poor characterization, clichés all over the place, angst left and right, it just leaves a lot to be desired. There was one thing I enjoyed, the portraits. Apparently you can walk in and out of portraits. You can then go from one painting to the next as long as they were connected. Harry uses this to spy on order meetings and the like, I thought it was kind of interesting, but not interesting enough to read this. 2/5 from me

Trash that has been dragged on for way too long.

2/5, as you can actually read it.

Though the points raised by Chime?? are valid to some extent I'd say that all those things are kept within some semblance of reason making the story still readable. The Snape/Harry relationship for instance approaches friendship but doesn't really go overboard. The friendship with Draco is actually one of the better elements of the story IMO (which is saying something as I usually find Harry/Draco friendship stories incredibly annoying) though the method by which it's initiated is somewhat ham-handed, it actually progresses from there reasonably well.

As for Redeye, I agree with most of your points. The story is far too long for its purpose and often wanders off tangentially for no good reason, with the muggle girlfriend who turns out to be Seamus' cousin being a cardinal example of that (I almost gave up then too). The angst also gets annoying at points but eventually starts to taper off. The one thing I'll dispute with you is the characterizations which I thought were reasonably well done. Nobody seems to behave in ways that beggar belief and if they deviate from how their canon character would act there's usually a decent amount of development leading up to it.

I rather liked the way the Pendant was used in conjunction with the chamber and the use of the portraits as a means of travel/spying was something I hadn't seen before. The method used to deal with the horcruxes, though not really new, is interesting and reasonably well done. Ditto the use of the animagus transformations.

I have been following this for a while. It's a decent story, compared to the general type of thing you get with Snape/Malfoy friendships. Those tend to lead to slash (Grrr...), which ruins things. Other than being one of the better ones in it's category, the whole thing is far too long. It is also somewhat cliched, what with the whole "Snape is Harry's new Dumbledore/mentor" thing.

The Seamus' cousin thing was a huge disappointment. I hate how authors think that to have a good story, they must have romance. It ticks me off, and ruins plenty of good stories. Especially the Rebel!Harry stories, which this fic classifies as. Overall, it gets a point for decency, one for no slash, and 1/2 point for no abandonment. 2.5/5

I remember that I read this story a while ago but then gave up, I think that it was the Snape that got to me. 1/5

What the hell! I just got through 7 chapters and I'm already sick of the damn story. Could Harry be any more of an ignorant Gryffindor? He wants friends so bad he goes up to Malfoy and tells him about the Chamber. Then practically gives him gold bar (basilisk parts). I hate canon!Harry. So stupid

That's the main problem with this story. The writing isn't bad, but there are too many elements that are just too fail to ignore.

    1.5/5
