Saw this a while back, couldn't be motivated to post at that point but...here it is. An overall ok fic, nothing special but its good if you want to hear about all the mistakes the wizarding world makes, and then laugh at it (plays to a few cliché's though, so that’s something to watch out for).
    <O:p</O:p
The author seems to be two collaborating ladies who have nothing to do, so the emotional scenes get a bit too wet for me towards the end. Starts off OK, but then it moves into the bashing of the WW-so all good fun.

Read if you have nothing better to do. Rating: 3/5 just because of the sappy scenes that seem to be emerging in the fic.

P.S. As I haven't been able to lurk in DLP for a while and am only now just returning, I don't know if this has already been posted, so if it has, please let me know and I will remove it.

    Duplicate.

New guy needs to learn to search.

    I mod will delete it.

Though, the story needs also to be added to the rejected list -- it isn't on it, currently. Searching for "GenkaiFan" returns no hit for this story other than this thread.

I think that's because it's in the Trash Bin - which isn't readily accessible on the web.

The story took a sharp nose-dive into clichéd territory quite a lot of chapters ago, but Voldemort's defeat was pretty original, I have to admit.

But it also proves that originality isn't always a good thing.

OP: The Almost Recommended fics thread exists for a reason. I'm not trying to play a mini-mod, but a lot of people would probably appreciate it if you posted less worthy fics there instead of in the Library.

In another thread, Raven said that he was considering opening the Trash Bin to public viewing. Hopefully he does that soon; sometimes it's fun to keep discussing trainwrecks.

Speaking of trainwrecks, this fic is just that. It was alright up until the last several chapters...I can only assume the authors got lobotomies.

The fic is completed and the authors have put up a challenge:

    I lol'd at the 'no Harry/Ginny' requirement.

This was more or less a guilty pleasure fun kind of fic. It went a little off the rails in the last few chapters but was written well enough for what it was - fluffy light reading.

4/5 for the first two thirds, 3/5 for the end bits.

This fic was never good, and it got far worse the further along it went. As for the possibility of a sequel, all I have to say is this:

    No.

I read it, followed it even as I had been reminded of a fic like this that I liked years ago, and it seemed a interesting bend on the average plot, but I was highly disappointed. It's written mediocre, the day I see articles like that in my paper I'll burn it, and outside the article it doubled as the incarnation of a cliché independent!harry story.

2/5 cuz it could have been good if it had better writer(s) and a more interesting plot.

Anything that invovles Harry embracing his Slytherin side will probably suck.

Only if his "Slytherin Side" is entirely stereotypical and one dimensional.

Verminard is actually half-right here; any story that has Harry 'embracing his Slytherin side' rather than just showing a little cunning or sneakiness to forward his ambitions (whatever they might be) is pretty much fated to suck. Defining a set of actions by a house name, such as saying "that's mightly slytherin of you," is piss poor characterization. Especially since 'embracing his inner Slytherin' according to canon means he'd just turn to overt bullying and prejudice.

Just finished it. It was... readable. Mostly boring, with every chapter having Harry be much smarter then everyone else in the world and saving it by writing notes down. Friendly Goblins and frequent use of the phrase Dumbles also detracted from the story.

    2/5

This story disappointed me immensely. Just-Asking-Questions! Harry might be Glenn Beck's secret dream, but in its execution it was painful to read -- especially toward the end. 1/5.

Eh, this story had me interested until it became apparent that it wasn't really going anywhere. Also, the non-ending ending means I'll probably never read the story again.

Bad plot. Bad execution. Bad writing. Bad.

We still have two threads here.

In other news, I tried reading this and ... seriously? You know, I have this problem with FF. Today, people are rarely writing letters anymore, and as a result, the knowledge how to properly compose a letter becomes increasingly rare. However, people insist on writing letters in FF -- which becomes a problem, because of course the letter in the story can't be any better than a letter the author would write in RL, that is to say, a piece of crap, due to the lack of a skill they never possessed nor acquired.

This story is an exemplary case. I didn't make it past the first letter -- it reads like written by a five-year-old. Awkward, unstructured, decidedly untalented and untrained. What makes this even funnier:

First, this seems like a non sequitur. Then, I realised that the meaning was "the letter is well-written and clever, so it can't be written by Potter". And then, I couldn't stop laughing. Am I right in assuming this story is based around those letters, and they all are as shitty as the first one?

1/5, and get this fail out of the library.
