Oh, Wow, that's interesting. Ranged Tank? Awesome.

I honestly thought that only Jedi Knights and Sith Warriors had tanking specs. If they're going out of their way to show a ranged in that role, then I imagine it's going to be really viable, and not just a novelty like it is in WoW.

Yeah they basically said that one of the Trooper paths is all about tanking, massive armour and massive guns, whilst the other was a more elite commando vibe or something along those lines.

But they also said the trooper can act as a ranged tank, like in the E3 video, so I expect that there will actually be alternative tanks.

... Yeah, he can "drop a heal", as in, use a medpac, health potion, whatever they are going to call it. Bacta Syringe?

I dunno, that's not exactly how they made it sound, more like some kind of class healing ability.

Even though I read many SW books, I am a bit hazy on how healing was handled there. They have this bacta tanks for healing and I remember that Jedi have healing trances in which they heal during sleep but I don't remember a Jedi healing a wound from someone else. mental ilnesses yes but not actual wounds.

I mean, in WoW I could buy healing spells, not sure it is believable in Star Wars but then again, how would a game work without healing?

Well, I can remember three examples:

1, from KOTOR 1 & 2, where you could heal yourself and your team mates with a healing power.

2, in one of the books, it was described how a Jedi Healer "sucked" a poison out of someone's body through the skin and into a cup.

3, in Jedi Knight 2 you could find bacta canisters which I guess you either drank or smeared onto your wounds.

I'm also pretty sure the Jedi can go into a Healing Trance where they would knit together their wounds with the Force.

It's a game mechanic. No more, no less. If they have to create powers and abilities to heal with, they will.

the only way it would be cool if they could heal with the lightsaber. it wouldn't make any sense, but how cool would it be if you heal people by stabbing them with your lightsaber. Like the healing shiv from 8-bit theater :awesome:

but seriously, it would be kind of lame if they make healing the same as in other rpgs, I don't want to have a robe of healing that gives you extra on healing power, wouldn't make much sense in the SW lore.

A robe of healing that increases your connection to force in regards to healing.

    Seems rather interesting.

I'll be pissed if Sith don't get Thought Bombs xD

I can see this being apart of the one of the story quests easily.

Have Thought Bombs ever been available to the player in a Star Wars game? If they have, I've never seen it.

    Then what's the point?
No, if you get thought bombed, your character is stuck inside the thought bomb. You can be freed by a minimum of 200 jedi working in unison, which will bring you back as a level 1 character with no equipment.

In Dark Age of Camelot, they did battlegrounds, geared towards specific levels that were fun. You had to use stealth and ambush tactics to keep from being rolled, was pretty fun actually.

And I wish someone dev'ing MMORPGs could figure out something other then tank/dps/healer classes. It's fucking boring, it's cookie cutter, and it's uninteresting.

Asheron's Call for example, one of the first MMORPG's dev'd by Turbine, you have/had a skill pool, and got points over levels to choose what you wanted to. When I finally stopped playing I was a mage who could enchant his armor to shrug off nearly anything (item enchantment) , spec'd in life (healing and protection) and war magic (elemental damage) but since I'd played and developed my character so long, I knew the tricks. I could tank with the mage if I wanted to, or heal, or etc.

My archer had melee defense, and life and item magic, so he could tank, etc. I very, very rarely grouped in there, and it was amazing. If the graphics weren't shit and I could remember my account info from 10 years ago, I'd be there still today.

    Oh Hai Middy.

Maybe someone wondered about my Avatar. Probably not. It's from Guild Wars 2. Here's some interview quotes relating to what they think of that.

Besides this, they are making efforts to change many of the traditional concepts of MMOs. Too many to list, at the moment. Some will probably fail, many actually look like they are going to work.

I was planning on eventually making a thread about this, I just hadn't gotten around to it.

Here's also a quick trailer/interview. Most of that is in-game graphics rather than trailer btw, from a panoramic view.

    Excellent video.

I realize it's off topic, sorry about that.
