Obviously it's supposed to be good. For some reason there are only 6 votes, which is why it wasn't included in the first place. His other fic is already there; both of them are "on hiatus".

Pretty sure I read it at some point, don't remember it that well though. I just get frustrated at fics that get abandonned just when they're getting good. Dunno if people feel there's enough plot that it's worth putting in.

Edit: Also, we seem to be ticking along at around 40 per day, which is nice if it stays like that for some time

 

It has a rating greater than 4.5 and has more than 10 votes, which is what all stories were judged on to get into the c2. (15 votes, 4.53 avg)

I typed out a long and essentially meaningless post here. In short, I liked it. I wish it was, you know, not abandoned. But I'll admit that's asking for too much, considering it's free, offers no benefit to the author, ect.

So I just read this and I don't think it's worthy.

Sure, the writing is very good, the idea original and well executed, the characters are interesting and the action not bad. But, and it's a very big but, I think the author rushed to much towards a cool battle that didn't have enough build-up. Perhaps it was necessary to move the plot forward, but meh.

Plus it was abandoned right in the middle of the action. Harry travels back in time a second time, kills of the Basilisk and we're stuck there. I'd rather have less quality stories in the C2 than have many of dubious quality, unfinished and abandoned.

 

While I love Young Again (The Rewrite), I sort of agree that abandoned fics hold no place in this C2. I'll chip my vote in as 'against', but have no problems if that's overridden, and it does go in, as it's exceptionally well written, for what is there.

 

No one wants to read abandoned fics. It's frustrating. They're dead, and unless they're the most amazing and spectacular pieces of fiction ever written, they should stay out.

The image that we want to C2 to give of DLP is that of an awesome, literate, talented, slightly badass, and ACTIVE community. Or so I'm guessing.

 

I don't know: I'd actually say that even abandoned stories can be entertaining to read. It can be frustrating, true, but if they've got decent writing in the first place then it potentially pretty much makes up for it, for me at least.

 

Eh, while agree that abandoned/inactive fics have no place in the C2, I've seen a number of them that absolutely shit on any number of completed/active fics.

And to be fair, a number of the abandoned fics are by authors who also have active and completed works, so it's not as if users wouldn't stumble across the abandoned ones anyways.

I vote to remove abandoned fics.

How about a pick 'n' mix approach? Abandoned fics are allowed in, but held to higher standards than ongoing/completed works?

 

I think that the only abandoned fics that should be allowed in are those of an extremely high quality and are often talked about as great stories despite being unfinished.

 

This is something that I have been thinking for a while. Not perhaps all abandoned stories, but ones that are you know... 3 chapters, and 6,000 words long. And haven't got any proper content at all really.

If it's not a one-shot, or a short story, and has under 50,000 words, it should be removed imo.

I usually refuse to read anything that small, even if it is being consistently updated, due to the fact that I usually end up forgetting half the shit by the next update.

Stuff like Taure's Lords of Magic shouldn't be in there either, sure the idea is really really cool, but is actually going to get a significant amount of content any time soon? I highly doubt it. It was started a while before the first chapter was posted in 2009, and chapter 2 was posted in June 2010.

Doesn't matter if it's 6,000 words or 60,000; an incomplete story arc, with no sign of updating, shouldn't be included. Additionally, just as there are active stories in the C2 now, they too should be removed if the author hasn't touched it in a while with no explanation as to why.

if the C2 was about giving some sort of validation to authors actively contributing to the genre, why should an inactive author's D.O.A. fic get a piece of the pie ?

 

The C2 is about what we as a community have produced, whether it's completed, abandoned or otherwise. Why quibble over the fine details? There's not that many stories in there to begin with - and definitely not enough for there to be a problem with an abandoned 5-star story being in the C2.
