I might remember it wrong but when he decided to go hunting demons and started packing his bag, didn't he throw the knife in there? I could have sworn he did.

Another question (and I bet this one never gets addressed) how on earth did John and his sons manage to Hunt all over the US at the same time as the Campbells and NEVER once crossed their path? The Hunt network is paranoid but it exists. I suppose the Campbells might have mostly Hunted in Canada before the border closed, or (theoretically) in Mexico, but it sure seems to stretch coincidence that the Winchesters never even HEARD of them.

If the Campbells were that determined to avoid all contact, how did Sam find them?

To the best of my knowledge, the Winchester Hunt team had a good-to-excellent reputation all the way up 'til Sam got possessed in S2, and even that might have been repaired if Azazel hadn't grabbed Sam for Cold Oak.

Why would Samuel deliberately avoid his son-in-law and grandsons? Sam introduced all the younger Campbells as third cousins except for one who was apparently a shirt-tail cousin, meaning they were connected through Samuel's parents. This implies that Mary was Samuel's only child, and that Dean and Sam are his only grandchildren. John self-taught himself as a Hunter: Samuel could have been a great help to him.

Well, it wasn't exactly the best episode ever, but I don't think it was as bad as people make it out to be. We all got spoiled by the awesomeness of the last couple of seasons and as a result the return to business as usual was a lot more jarring. This episode did not meet expectations, but then again the bar was set ridiculously high. Personally, I think they managed to set up some interesting plot lines and I really want to see what happens next.

Unfortunately, I think it's highly likely that Lisa and the kid are going to die. There's no good way to get Dean out of the house otherwise. I can't wait to see Castiel again, he'll either make or break the show for me.

Oh, and I hate Sam's new car, hate it with a fiery passion. I hope it gets blow up. 'Got it set up just the way I like it' my ass.
I'm pretty sure Samuel was dead. The entire household died (except Mary) in the episode where Castiel took Dean back in time to see how the whole Azazel thing got started. John never knew that his wife was a hunter, and neither did Sam and Dean until the time travel episode. Even if they did run into each other it's unlikely they would have made the connection with so little information. Hell, I got the impression that Sam and Dean didn't even know who their grandparents were.

Samuel somehow got resurrected this season along with Sam. I assume he then set out to find whatever was left of his family and his time-traveling grandsons.

I knew the episode would suck the moment I saw Jones Quinn with a main role and lines.

The girl I could have lived with but Jones frickin Quinn is a cancer to tv series everywhere. Its his damn smile.

"Oh look at me I can smile and act like a charming guy who will fit in. Love me long time."

I'm willing to be patient with the series as acker and padelecki are really good at portraying scenes in surprising ways to give them depth.

What I want to know is why the third winchester brother wasn't zombie jesused.

Maybe because he wasn't a campbell.

My hope, this entire season is a dream in deans head due to the Jinn poisoning him and he doesn't find out till the end.

Disappointed sounds about right to me. It wasn't awful or horrible... yet. A lot of the twists and turns Supernatural seems to take often grow on me as I see them develop. Sam's car? I take pleasure in knowing that piece of marketing is inevitably going to get blown to shit. As for gramps and the questionably evil cousins, I hope not. Retconning a large clan/family of hunters who somehow completely avoided all the Winchesters, a seemingly semi-famous family of hunters related to them? I just don't fucking know.

That said, I was really hoping a large chunk of the "normal" life surrounding Dean would turn out different. Like everyone on his street is a well-adjusted demon who'd been hiding during the apocalypse and live near Dean for safety. Or maybe the babysitter who helps out watching the kid is secretly an angel because Cas wanted to look out for Dean. Okay those examples were pretty shitty, but you get what I mean.

And Sam's hair? It's been that awful for a while now. Though only this year is Tom Brady doing his best to copy it. Which explains quite a few things. GO COLTS!

This felt a bit like an average fanfiction which was watered down with a lot random OC characters nobody cares about to fill up the voidness of the plot. The only one who came over like before was Bobby.

Yup. In a better world they would've slaughtered the entire family. Thrice-removed ties do not excuse you from a bullet.

I think what bothered me the most was how the Campbell's treated Dean. I mean Dean sat down and had pizza with Death. You would think that gave him some respect from them, even if he is bit rusty.

Or maybe they were teasing him and I didn't notice. Of course, with all of the douchy Casey Affleck impressions, who can blame me?

Also, what was up with Sam being all shifty-like. I didn't exactly expect an Oscar award winning performance from him, but Jared Padalecki can be more subtle than that (that is, if he was meant to act shifty).

I dunno, it's like creators are creating a whole heap of angst where there really shouldn't be any. I thought when they said they were going back to the old season one formula, that maybe we would see a few hunts with the boys alone, and then maybe a finishing episode that wrapped the whole thing up. Instead we get a bunch of new tryhards that I really couldn't care any less about.

Is it ... possible ... that Sam never told the Campbells exactly what Dean did - all his accomplishments - in the run up to the Cage? Sam Hunted with them for a year, and Samuel, at least, was all clued-in to the existence of angels.

Sam has never been laconic, so I find it hard to believe that he didn't unload *some* of the Winchester history on those he saw as blood kin.

Assuming last year's canon held true for the next thirty years, Samuel was dead all that time, so the (much) younger generation of Campbells must have been taught by Mary's contemporaries. Three surviving Hunters (that we know of) from Sam and Dean's generation, all hunting with their great-uncle. To me that implies that this is the entirety of the bloodline.

I always thought that it was cheezy that John's line was the only important one - why would the Cupids actually *force* him to marry Mary in particular, if her blood had nothing to contribute? I've been figuring that the Winchester angelic thread came down from a high-ranked angel (maybe Michael, or Gabriel,) while her line was also beatic, but from a lower-ranked original angel.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but there's too high a level of mind-fuckery and spoilers in this thread.

So I just finished watching season 5 and my question is:

Was Chuck God all along? Or at least his vessel?

It seems likely -- or at least, I haven't thought of anything that would suggest otherwise. Chuck is throughout the series the 'Prophet'. He writes of what happened, is happening, and even of what would happen. Joshua explicitly says God is on Earth. At the end of season 5 Chuck vanishes in a white light, and right before that, we get to see he's wearing a rather fancy white shirt, which is a contrast to the hobo-like clothes he wore throughout the series. And there's this whole business of Chuck/God telling things (in this last episode of season 5) that angels would hardly had paid attention to or would have thought important enough to be told to the Prophet of the Lord; things like when Sam stuffed a toy soldier inside the car's ashtrey, Dean sticking in the legos in the vent system, the both of them carving their names with those badass-looking knives...

Everything seems to point towards Chuck; having knowledge he shouldn't have; always being in the right place at the right time; he is consistently there to help Dean and Sam but never in outright battle, as if he were there in the role of an invisible helping hand; and his words at the end of that episode are: "Nothing really ends, now does it?"

Dunno. Maybe I'm reaching too damn far.

    Thoughts?

Pretty sure he was God. He could also have been a prophet and pulled an Enoch

This was much better than the snozefest that was last week and next weeks looks even better... I hope this is a trend.

1 Campbell down 3 to go. I feel like they killed the most likable/helpful of the bunch though

Much better episode. I was involved right from the start. Sam acts more sane and professional, Dean is very Dean.
Samuel is taking orders from someone.
We have an *enemy* to track. A strong, tricky, bad one.
Dean's taste in women is pretty damn great.
They started killing off the Campbells. The only problem with that is that they started off with the only one I actually kinda liked.
I have a lot of respect for Samuel - but most of that is 'cause I was raised in the South. Grandparents automatically get a positive response from me.
Shifter babies. Great idea. Do you think that there's some sort of mating season for the Alpha (or maybe shifters in general?) That would explain why there were so many babies right at the same time.

    Dean: "We need Cas."
    Cas: "I need your help."
Once again, all on the same page. Damnit.

Wonder how they intend to ditch Sam's car. Which I *still* didn't take a good enough look at to identify it.

Girl moment: Shirtless Sam working out. *sigh*

Who the hell hired Corin Nemec for this show? His stint on SG1 almost ruined the show for me, please don't let him ruin Supernatural well.

Good episode, though. Much better than last week.

Thank God. I was afraid that I was the only one who hated him. I hated him in SG-1 when he was taking the place of Daniel, and he's playing an actual jerk now.

How did *anyone* find out about what Dean did in hell? I'm confident that Sam wouldn't talk about it to anyone.

    Fucking Jonas Quinn.

I thought it was pretty obvious from the way Sam looked at him afterward that he did tell everyone all about Dean, even what he did in hell.
