Searched and there's not a thread for this movie. It has been a really, really long time since I read comics in general or GL in particular, but Hal Jordan was the GL back when I did read them. I'm not a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds and I think his being the "it" guy right now is most of the reason he was cast in the role, but meh, it could've been worse - they could've used Ben Affleck or something...

Anyway, the main reason for starting a thread was because there's now a teaser trailer out:

Thoughts? It may be cheesy but I admit that the trailer definitely makes me wanna see it.

 

This pisses me off for one sole reason: Reynolds was already Deadpool.

I don't like seeing characters play two heros...even though I can't think of another time it's happened, off the top of my head (But if it has, I hate it on principle). Still, I'm definitely going to see this.

 

In all honesty I actually think this looks fairly awesome, I was fully prepared to hate this movie even with Ryan Reynolds in it who I actually like as an actor but that trailer made it look awesome.

 

At least Reynolds changed company. Chris Evans played the Human Torch, and he's playing Captain America as well.

On topic: never read much - well, any - Green Lantern, but the concept seems pretty cool, and the teaser looks fun. I'll definitely be going to see this, but I may do some background reading first.

 

Yeeeeaaaaaah, that fucker D8 He's ruined any future Avengers movie.

He doesn't even look the part, really. That prettyboy douche from Smallville that plays Green Arrow could play Captain if he muscled up. B

 

I don't know why but I can't take Reynolds seriously. Hes played too many comicy roles. No matter what he plays I can't help but remember him being in some other movie I've seen. That keeps me from getting involved with the story.

His face and acting style is so recognizeable that I just can't like his movies.

Watching the blade movie with him and Biel in it was crap.

But back to Green lantern.

Theres actually a really decent fan trailer that I would say is actually comparable to this one.

I'm a big fan of Green Lantern comics and I really want this movie to be great, but from watching only trailer I can't say I'm impressed.

It's sad that this fan trailer looks almost better than original one. Can anyone tell me from what movie was the last scene with "super powers" comment?

C'mon with the way they fucked up Deadpool, you can't hold that against him. He was barely on screen recognizable, and even then he may as well have been named anything else.

 

Hopefully they actually utilize the ring's power. I better not see a bunch of giant green fists. The minigun in that trailer's a start, but... Kyle Rayner made a Gundam once. Just sayin'.

Costume aside, I think the CGI looks fine (it should do by now, it's had an extra $9million dollars spent on it), and I'm still looking forward to it.

 

I'd love to see a gundam come out that ring.

There's this and the new Xmen, I cant wait.

 

Am I the only one who thinks this looks completely disgusting? I hate Reynolds for this role, and the CGI for his suit looks really squicky. I don't want that much crotch bulge in anything.

 

Personally, I'd rather see Reynolds as The Flash.

Green Lantern

The other topic is more than thirty days old so I can't bump it.

Kay, I've just saw this.

It might be just my opinion, but Hal's character seemed a little bastardized compared to how I remember him in other media- but most movies do that these days.

He saw his father die in front of him in a plane testing accident and wanted to live up to his father's without fear image, and because of that screwed up his previous relationship with the love interest of the movie. The whole film is about how the Lanterns don't think he's worth it- or rather one of them dosen't- because he has fear and how they are fearless. He is convinced because of earlier mentioned love interest that he was chosen because of his ability to overcome fear (courage) rather than being fearless...

The humor that was expected from the trailer wasn't there, more like sarcastic comments and one guranteed going to be a blooper moment.

If I had to rate it? 3.5/5

 

You can bump it if you have good reason to. Seeing the movie after it comes out seems like a good enough reason.

And I haven't seen this but expect it'll be decent and nowhere near as good as the awesome animated movies that have come out in the past few years. Green Lantern Emerald Knights was pretty decent, so was Green Lantern First Flight. Justice League New Frontier also had a nice GL origin in it and that movie was fucking fantastic.

On a somewhat more thread-related note, I personally believe Ryan Reynolds is a giant douchebag and at the same time, I like him.
