Sounds like a cool concept, but I feel like this wizarding world will end up more Dresden-esque than Potterverse. A pity - a show about aurors (maybe even Harry as an auror) would have be reeeeally awesome.

Rather than Law & Order they should cross it with Columbo :awesome

But if they really produce this I would definitely give it a shot and as long as it doesn't suck, continue to watch it.

I think the best way to bring to bring Batman to tv would be to Do a "CSI: Gotham"

The story in the link, well if it does make it to tv it better have strong writing. Or vampires?

The 'it's like X meets Y!" format is aggravating, because the bastard pitching it always picks the most successful examples instead of the most accurate. In this case, Dresden Files would probably be a better description, but that is much less well-known than HP and was already developed into a shitty TV show that flopped.

    That said, I'm cautiously optimistic.

The biggest problem with this kind of thing, IMO, is consistency in the "rules" of the magic and what the limits are.

Dresden Files as a book series is great because in addition to the usual suspects of great characters, plot, etc. you got a sensible framework of what Harry can or cannot do and everything that was built on top of that framework made sense.

Dresden Files as a TV series was the complete opposite with magic being totally inconsistent from one episode to the next. The magic used by Harry in one episode to solve a crime is completely forgotten by the next even though it could've solved the next case in like 5 minutes. And naturally, as a consequence, that extended to the villains being whoever the fuck the writers could pull out of their asses and doing every kind of magic imaginable.

That was for me, by far, the biggest flaw of the show and unless this new series can overcome the same problem, it's gonna be a big steaming pile of shit.

Hmm, I see that Radcliffe, Grint and Watson might just have acting careers outside of the Potter movies . . . maybe.
