    Yes, this is real.

Yes, it opens on April 15th of this year.

    Yes, there is a trailer.

And yes, this looks like a SyFy/Asylum level production with no star power, hammy acting, and plain silliness, just made so they could desperately cling to the rights. I plan on seeing this and laughing my ass off.

    Thoughts?

I heard the book was extremely boring.

It was. The entire point of the book was for the author to preach her retardedly libertarian bullshit. John Galt is an author-sue who represents everything Ayn Rand wanted to be (a person capable of altering the world with a single speech, while Rand couldn't even convince her own sister not to move back to the fucking Soviet Union) and overall, it's just an overhyped version of everything Less Wrong was ever written.

Yep. If you've read one of Rands author tracts (fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged, Anthem) you've read them all and ANthem is the only short one, so just read that one.

Like you wouldn't believe, I made it to just about the end, then a full 25 page uninterrupted speech stopped me. Beyond self righteous, it was just Galt yelling at the world for not listening to them and how they are all fucked now.

Didn't Charlie Stross say once that he was planning to write a sequel to Atlas Shrugged? If so, that's the film they should make. I'd pay good money to see that.

Irrespective of one's political and philosophical alignments, everyone should read Atlas Shrugged twice: first as an impressionable kid, then again through jaded, adult eyes. Trust me on this.

Well, I started with Terry Goodkind (which is the fantasy surrogate of Ayn Rand who's more of a dick) and his surprisingly excellent Faith of the Fallen, which despite the Objectivism bullshit, actually had characters who were interesting and entertaining. I read it in high school and was immediately enamored by it so much so that I read Atlas Shrugged and found it rather 'meh'. The writing style just didn't engage me the same way.

Then I went to university and my naive little views were cruelly shattered by professors and classmates (this was also around the time I joined DLP, so I'll place some of the credit here as well). Having reread both books, I still consider Faith of the Fallen good because of the writing and the characters, but Atlas Shrugged really hasn't aged well and the writing is stale as a year-old box of Triscuits.

Oh well, the movie's going to be lulzy as all hell.

Tea baggers can masturbate to this and clap themselves on their backs for having such an intellectual "titan" as Ayan Rand as their patron. *puke*

I'm sure there are even some DLP objectivists who will whoop with joy when they find this.

Thinking "Atlas shrugged" is a classic is like believing KFC is a gourmet location, if you see "deep thought" anywhere in this shit brick your own shallowness must be measured in microns.
