So, I figure I'd stuff this here, instead of support.

Knights of the Old Republic PC fans. I need your combine aid. I'm looking for a mod that was on PCGameMods.com before she went under.

Anyone still have a copy of Messkell's "Shores of Death"?

    Never heard of it. Sorry.

I'm guessing it's one of those "total conversion" mods, though? I've never liked them that much. Most of the mods I've downloaded for KotOR fix gameplay issues or are cosmetic.

Nah. It was part of a Unknown World set. Evil Temple let you take anyone into the temple, increased Bastila's difficulty mucho much, etc. Shores of Death was for after that.

Lets you spare Mission, kill Carth, kill everyone by Bastila... Something else too, but I cant remember off the top of my head.

KOTOR was so good, but every star wars game since then has really let me down. Any hope for the future? If we could somehow get the massive open world like fallout into a star wars form...

Hahaha... did you just ask if there's going to be a massive, open world Star Wars game in the near future that is like KotOR? You must be really out of it. Protip: Google "Star Wars: the Old Republic"

No, he asked for a game like Fallout that just happens to be a massive, open world. Not an MMORPG.

Solomon: I may be misunderstanding.. but I'm pretty sure the emphasis was "Large open world" and not "like Fallout'.
Though Bioware and open world games don't really mesh...

    Even Battlefront?

(Er, Battlefront came after KotOR, right?)

And I'm assuming you're talking about both KotORs.

Open world games are sometimes known as sandbox games [the two terms aren't always interchangeable] and existed long before MMOs. Grand Theft Auto is an open world game, for example. The Fallout series certainly qualifies.

I know what an open world game is.
That doesn't change the fact that Bioware doesn't usually make games that are very open world.

It's usually a linear world with some choices on order. Kotor and Dragon age were like that, linear first missions, then some freedom with side quests what order to follow main quest (Star Maps, Treaties) and then back to linear ending.

An open world KOTOR would probably be pretty awesome, depends if they managed to nail the space exploration/combat aspect of it. The space gunner thing in Kotor was pretty boring.

Yeah... I was thinking about something like this the other day, but more for a Dresden kind of thing. Fairly easy to mod the idea over to KOTOR or any other fandom.

Basically, idea I had was grab an engine to build it on, and do something like the old NWN community did with online servers. Persistent Worlds. Meaning, basically, kill a shop keeper, they stay dead, no re-spawning NPC's.

I figure you could add a bunch of quests for a single player variant for people who don't want to play online style... A bunch of little modules with a list of possible changes, so you can give something of the same feel, if a little bit more mechanical.

I figure the main focus of the project would be online, with everything (Quests, alliances, etc...) being Player/RPG driven.

As far as engines... Possibly the Eclipse engine (Dragon Age Origin); or maybe something a bit older, like Aurora (NWN2/Witcher).

Not sure how much interest there would be in a game with shipped with no defined online quests though...

Never played either, but if the comparison holds, sure!
