Looking for some H/Hr which doesn't suck, and preferably keeps bashing to a minimum. Don't want soul-bond or redo fics, unless they're really good.

I've read canoncansodoff but (s)he's a Harmonian and while the writing is passable it's mostly smut. There's a time and place for that, but it's not what I'm looking for.

I've read some future will-be H/Hr like nos tres reges's stuff, but obviously those fics haven't actually progressed into the relationship yet.

So yeah, anything that's completed or decently far along. Don't even care too much if it's abandoned, really.

    For rela?

    Sigh.

Here are both H/Hr fics that didn't suck. They're both abandoned. While writing these stories, one author disappeared from the face of the earth and the other developed a brain tumor. Coincidence?

Best H/Hr I ever read was "Vox Corporis" by MissAnnThropic, but there are some other very good recs in the thread mentioned by scaryisntit.

Ah yes, you could give MattD12027 on ff.net a look, his stuff is quite good too if you like very long fics.

Read through 2/3 of Vox Corporis before I dumped it and started reading Years of Rebellion. Then I screamed in rage when I finished the last chapter.

Huh? Why would you dump Vox Corporis 2/3 through? The whole animagus story arc is the best part of the fic.

Dunno, just got bored of it. I had nothing against the story in particular, but the writing style, frankly, made it seem like Harry was a girl. This may be a result of a female author, but frankly there are a lot of female fanfiction authors who manage not to do that =P

I'm curious. Why'd you scream in rage?

Because there was basically no plot resolution after over 500k words. That said, I don't regret reading it.

Wow, I haven't thought about that fic in ages. I really enjoyed it though, despite some truly dumb elements towards the end.

Some of these recommendations may overlap with the community thread, but hey, no biggie.

The Sacrifice, followed by its more lengthy sequel The Keeper. Slow-moving drama that's (if you tilt your head sideways a bit) canon-compliant and already well past 350 000 words, still in progress. I really enjoy them, despite the major angst. There's a fairly good mystery to The Keeper, as well.

Unlike A Sister - this is a fairly new story which seems to be going somewhere, at the very least. May be one to watch for the future, but could well end up much like the vast majority of HHr: utter shite.

There are, of course, the endlessly fluffy stories from chem prof, the simply endless (and very dated) Fifth Element, the angsty (why-oh-why are they all like this?) Blood Bound, and the heavily Ron-bashing (I know you asked for stories without bashing, but I found it quite funny) The Champion's Champion. And if you really want to go to the darkside, you can wander over to Portkey where they have quite the collection of HHr (I am aware that a large portion of the stories on portkey are crap, but sometimes they accidentally get a decent one or two) including Hermione Granger and the Goblet of Fire and Coming Back Late.

Finally, although this is not a HHr, they are the two main characters in The Golden Age, a rather troubling fic which I nevertheless found to absolutely brilliant. It's all the more worrying because the characters don't seem to undergo all that much in the way of change, yet still allow themselves to end up in such a dire situation. The same goes for Hallows and Pathos by our very own Pers.
