I'm faintly surprised this isn't a rapefic, judging from the summary/pairing. That being said, angstfics aren't my thing, and this story does nothing to change that. Pussy!Harry needs to die in a fire. 2/5 for being competently written.

This is the anti-DLP fic; a harry/voldemort angst fest where Harry does nothing to better himself and seems to just give up; he's whiny and all around a little bitch. The author can write so I'll give it a 1/5.
And kjh787 (and anyone else who is new) I highly recommend joining conversations and making meaningful points (i.e not "the santi hasn't updated in over a month, I hope he does soon") before you recommend a story for these vultures.

 

Okay, angst is a little thick in this one, I will admit, and Harry is a bit defeatist, yes, but this caught my eye.

So, I'm going to give this one a chance, because the above is pretty fucked up, and gets my hopes up that this may be a decently dark toned fic.

EDIT: Read to Chapter 6 before growing bored with the pacing and the torture. Which, in context of a normal teenage boy was done quite realistically. The whole thing is put together pretty good. I skimmed the rest.

There are quite a few interesting moments sprinkled throughout that I glimpsed. Enough to make me actually want to sit down and read the whole thing through, but the tone became a problem.

It is very-well written. I cannot give it less than 3 stars for that. The pacing is dragging, and the characterization is mostly consistent, with all players involved. Expect, they all worry over Harry. Everything bad happens to Harry. Harry does get proactive, but there's always the lingering stench of drama and angst. There's reasonable trauma, given what he went through, but always there is this cloud of doom from the angst.

It's always poor Harry. Even some drama is drummed up between he and his friends just to aid to the picture of poor Harry.

And if the focus and tone of the fic were not so heavily laden with poor-Harry, I would have easily of called this worthy of the Library.

So I'm at a crossroads. I personally did not enjoy reading it, and would not recommend it to anyone on here. However, I really can't say that it's that horribly written, aside from the above. So should I knock 2 stars off for the heavy angst? Decisions, decisions...

So I'll give it a 3.5/5.

EDIT 2: At the haters. DLP has a reputation of possessing a Library where one can read well-written stories. This is an image that many have pushed pretty aggressively.

This fic, is such an example of a well-written story.

So the poster was well within their rights to read and enjoy this story and think it being decently written it may get a shot into the Library. This has happened with slash-fics so it may have happened with this one.

So bash the story as you please, but I see nothing wrong with him posting it.

 

God damnit. I just lost my entire post.

This is a guilty-pleasure fic for me and have read it since the beginning.

Its pretty lackluster but has some intense and interesting moments scattered throughout. It seems as if the author is plotting as she goes and really has no idea what she is doing.

The pacing is horrible, it starts off quite interesting but within four chapters, it becomes less and less interesting and by chapter 7, it's downright boring. It really does not pick up until chapter 30 when shit gets real (well, for this fic). I almost recommended this in the Almost Recommended because of chapter 51 which had a great characterized Dumbledore (+5000 for me) but after that chapter, the fic really declined once again.

The author has improved greatly since her previous fics and is an avid Dark Harry supporter. I think she could be a great author if she gets a good idea.

I would say we steal her to DLP and teach her the ways of good fanfic plotting. We always need more writers who like Dark Harry and can actually write.

I have to rate this fic 3/5 for its amazing update rate and the good writing.

 

I got pissed and left at the point Harry forgot English. I was fine with him breaking down while under torture and panic enough to forget it while he was still jailed up, but once he was free it was just stupid. Well the entire torture part could be considered badly done. Good writing but that isn't enough.

Rating is 3^.5+1 rounded down.

The story's fairly well written but it's simply not library worthy.

Too much angst, and some of the recent developments ( Harry just walks into Riddle Manor and kills Nagini + the Knight Bus dropping him at Riddle Manor) don't quite cut it.

A recommendation for almost recommended, but nothing more than that.

Terrific doesn't even cover this melodramatic emo fest. Just plain horrible.

 

First half doesn't really deserve more than a 2/5, second half doesn't deserve less than 3.5/5. I'm giving this a rounded up 3. The fic isn't nearly so bad as some of you say it is - yes, the angst is a bit thick, but the torture isn't done terribly and only a few minor things feel contrived.

 

I'll have to take your word that it gets so much better, I honestly didn't get that far.

 

It doesn't get much better so much as it stops doing stupid shit. But yeah. If you can't stomach 60-70k words of angst then don't bother.

It's just not that good. I do appreciate the writer's lack of idiocy when it comes to the English language, canon spellings, etc..., but this fic just isn't immersive. The first ten chapters were a struggle to get through, and I thought there was a surprising lack of character development considering the amount of time spent agonizing over Harry's plight. I couldn't finish it.

The beginning was just a lame angst fest but it does get better towards the end. However, I think I should have just stopped reading as the end did not justify the crappy beginning. I can't really fault the writing, but the characters are not really that interesting and they seem almost incompetent at times. Also I can't really understand the motivations behind some of their actions. There were parts where I was almost excited, but those are preciously few compared the length of the fic. I guess this fic does have the potential to go somewhere but it could really do with rewriting some of the chapters.
