Having not found a thread for it, I thought I'd start one after just finishing the epic season finally. I won't post any thoughts or spoilers right now, at least not until a second viewing... but wow. That has to be one of my favorite endings ever. But like a said. Second viewing required.

Eh. Every time I watch I feel like I'm watching a less funny version of Psych.

Holy crap, best payoff ever. How long has this show been running? Aaah, so satisfying.

A less stupid version of Psych.

I can never watch more than 15 minutes of that crap before I turn it off. I've tried.

Psych is more realistic than the Mentalist, which is slightly ridiculous. The Mentalist is a guilty pleasure for me - it's not "epic", though.

I don't care what anybody says.

Jane is the most well dressed bastard on TV. And I love him for it.

    /totally not gay.

Meh, I was expecting Red Jon to be someone who Jane knows. The ending was pretty cool.

Is there going to be a 4th season?

yes there will be. Which is also why the end was great.

Any body willing to bet it wasn't red john? I can't decide if I want that to happen or not. I mean there's no real way out of this for Jane. It was atleast 2nd degree.

And psyche, while entertaining, is extremely silly.

It was the first time in a while I could remember being excited in the last few minutes of a finale... That hasn't happened since...

    Uh.

    Buffy. Season 5.

But I kept hoping he'd do what he did. I love it when shows actually cross 'that line'. Keeps things interesting, at least.

I'm kind of hoping it wasn't--it would certainly make things interesting. I swear there's something wrong with that La Roche guy.

I agree. LaRoche is a bit off. But it doesn't help that Pruitt Taylor Vince (the actor who plays him, also appeared in Constantine) has Pathologic nystagmus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathologic_nystagmus) ,which makes it kind of disconcerting to watch his close ups. Very... odd. Almost creepy.

I've been following the Mentalist for the last couple of seasons, and until the very last couple of episodes of this latest season it was going steadily downhill. I still watched it cause it was somewhat amusing and a good way to switch off my brain. The last couple of episodes got good again I think, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take the show now.

So, yeah, a new season already out. Jane as always is entertaining, but I very much disliked the ending.

I think that the revelation about the Red John still being alive cheapens the last episode of the previous season. More so, I'm pretty sure that in the years to come people will say that this should be how this series ended or at least they should introduce a new bad guy. Personally, I hoped that maybe Jane will need to catch sort of disciples of RJ who wanted a revenge on him for what he did to their master.

Anyway, since the identity of RJ reminds a mystery, I'm still calling it's Bret Partridge.

Agreed. Good episode, but they could have at the very least let the whole "it's not redjohn" bit go until later in the season.

Yeah. Not only did Jane get off a bit easy I thought, but the whole end of episode reveal just fell a bit flat really.

Meh. The Mentalist was being carried solely by the Red John hunt, and it's wonderful conclusion at the end of the last season was how it should have ended. This new season just feels tacked on, and the episode's reveal falls flat.

I guess I'm dropping this off my list.

I owe it another episode or two to justify the season for me. But you're right- it is perilously close to falling off my must watch list.

I was expecting Jane to insist all through the episode that he killed Red Jon, and at the end the wife of "Red Jon" gets killed in her bedroom with a red smiley face on the wall. Thus proving to everyone that Red Jon is alive.

I guess they wanted to return the show to normal(Jane solving mysteries with his "powers")

To be perfectly honest this season had lost almost all interest for me. The only reason I continued to watch it was because I was just going through the motions. However, this last episode renewed my faith in the show. It reminded me just how much Jane can be a cold calculating son of a bitch and has no issues skirting the system in a drastic fashion to get what he deems just.

Some SPOILERS: I still hold that having him flat out state Red John wasn't dead at the beginning of season four was a bunk. I wish that his actions and whatnot would simply implicate his own doubts and have it come about half way through the season... But as I said- if you had doubts about the season, at least watch episode seven. It's getting back to what was soo good.
