Actually, if I remember correctly, they tried contacts, but young Daniel found them highly uncomfortable. And it didn't really make sense to change that in later movies.

Yeah, they care about continuity so much in these films. :awesome

I guess it might suck for a young actor if it really is that uncomfortable for him, though.

Couldn't they use a computer to give them a green overlay though?

The main actor... in every scene...

Yeah, not happening... and it would make no point in doing it with just a few scenes.

Helen's portrayal of Hermione was ridiculously entertaining.

Really enjoyed this. I felt they did a far better job of the Battle of Hogwarts than JK did in the books... so much more epic.

Of course, there were a few minor drawbacks:

Neville backstabbing Nagini, the Harry-Voldemort 'flying scene', Molly-Bella fail, no mention of Teddy being Harry's godson, and somce decisions made by characters which really don't seem to make sense; i.e. Ron & Hermione letting Harry go to his death. Then again, the three of them were portrayed as much closer friends in this than they were in JK's DH. Lack of Dumbledore backstory irritated me, but perhaps they simply didn't have time.

    Plus points:

Neville on the bridge. Fucking legend.

We see the destrcution of Hufflepuff's cup, although I was hoping for some kind of defence from the Horcrux.

Voldie giving Draco a cuddle, lol'd.

Supreme stuff from Rickman, though there seemed no need to take it from the Shrieking Shack. I felt that the way he was killed was well done, nice and brutal. A contrast to the book, of course, when he was killed with barely a care.

We got a proper Harry vs Voldie fight... who cares that he would have been crushed in a realistic world, coz, hey, it was awesome.

Emma Watson keeps improving as an actress. That was pretty darn decent. Help that she gives me the tingles, too.

The sequence with Harry confronting Snape in the Great Hall was good, and Minnie McG fighting Snape off was nicely done. About time she made us laugh, too.

Neville on the bridge. Deserves mentioning twice.

    ---

I'm sure there was more, but that's all I can think of for now.

Overall, I thought it was the pick of the bunch, and an excellent conlusion. They didn't quite nail the ending, but to the casual viewer it would probably seem perfect, what with Hogwarts all happy.

EDIT: So, I saw it a second time and decided to sit back and think about ita bit more. The main points I found were:

    • Dan Radcliffe has just one pose, expression and tone of voice combo. Come on, man, where's your range?
      • Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have rather more ability in this department.
      • Bonnie Wright is useless, I could barely discern any emotion from her acting. Similar problem as with Radcliffe, only much worse. Luckily, she doesn't get much screen time.
    • Congrats to Ralph Fiennes for making the best of a bad script for Voldemort. Same goes for Rickman, Smith and HBC when the script does struggle at times.
    • Neville is still awesome.
    • Disappearing Carrows in Great Hall were confusing. Perhaps we'll see in the deleted scenes... or perhaps not.
    • What the hell was Julie Walters doing? She spent almost the entirety of the scenes in which she participated simply standing there with a frown. Still, delivered the 'Not my daughter you bitch!' line well. Perhaps the writers simply wrote her out of everything.
    • Well done to the directors for making the battles as epic as possible, but the Harry/Voldie flying scene was a bit ridiculous. Felt too much like Neo vs Smith in Matrix Revolutions.
    • Anybody else notice that child!Lily had brown eyes? And I have no idea what colour MILF!Lily's eyes were, because I could've sworn they were green in the pensieve and brown in the forest. Strange.
    • Epilogue was pathetic, as in the books. The whole theatre was laughing at the 'old' versions of the characters... if that was the intention, then fine, but I didn't like it.
    Still a 4/5

    /End of an era. Possibly.

I honestly hated this movie and will say of it the same thing I said of the Torchwood: Miracle Day Episode "New World", as a visual spectacle it was absolutely fantastic but beyond that, a few choice lines and moments and the acting being brilliant from mostly everyone - except the main trio and a few others - the majority of the film to me felt bland and uninspiring which was bad considering how epic that actually wanted to make the movie appear. It just didn't get that feeling. Not to mention, the cuts that they made some of the more important scenes really odd to me concerning some of the reactions. Not to mention characterization seemed to falter every so often - especially with Voldemort. The film seemed to spend a lot of time focusing on stuff that was unimportant and not actually the stuff that was important. Perhaps I need to see it again, but from a first viewing I definitely got a feel for the epic quality they were going for but overall the story fell short of its goals to me.

Perhaps I need to watch it a second time.

3/5 from me, as it stands

Funny how this movie made some people so emotional. I didn't feel that at all, even though I felt Dobby's death in the last one. I did notice I was somehow less excited for this one though and when it ended, I didn't feel some kind of closure or had a "Woah, it's over"-moment which the books gave me. This was more like something I had to do, knew it wouldn't live up to what it was supposed too and kind of just sat it out. I never had that for the earlier movies, not even Part 1. Maybe I just saw too much spoilers even though I actually tried to evade them a little.

Out of everything, I'll probably remember Neville the most. His speech was a little awkward, but his actions were awesome. Possibly killed over a hundred enemies in one blow, yet not a fuck was given. Nagini should have been killed in front of Voldemort though. Harry totally stole his thunder with his random escape and run. Trying to follow canon, only to shoehorn that chase in felt off. Using canon and have them all retreating into Hogwarts while fighting, with a larger Harry/Voldemort fight at the end, would have been better. The chase and dragging out the Nagini kill didn't do the movie much good.

Also did anyone notice the difference in numbers between Voldemort's forces before the fight and those that were left after the forest? He had hundres, if not thousands of men at first. Looking at the little group he had left, Hogwarts must have been covered with Death Eather corpses. The kill ratio of the Order was insane. With Neville in the lead ofcourse. Got the girl too. Like a boss.

The Molly/Bellatrix was lulzy. Ginny seemingly blocked a Killing Curse, her family just sort of stood there and Molly throwing out the "Not my daughter, you bitch!" only to put a 'Heh, look what I just did'-face after winning.

Snape's memories were fine. The none-memories in between were a little weird, but I get why they did that. My sister asked me if Snape was actually Harry's father though and I wouldn't be surprised if others thought that too. Snape hugging Lily felt a little overdramatic to me and out of character. Even if he had done that, he'd never show Harry. It was necessary to get his point through after all. Maybe it would have gotten to me more if I hadn't still been laughing at the thought of all the horrible, horrible slash Snape's deathscene would spawn. Still, making him look younger in the earlier memories (GH, begging Dumbledore) was a nice touch.

I liked Lavender's death. No magic. No extended deathscene. Just Greyback in here neck and death. Too bad Hermione sorted of ruined it by throwing him through a solid wall. Not blasting, just sort of throwing off. Through a wall.

Hermione as Bellatrix was well done. I really enjoyed that. The awkwardness was well shown. And Ron should have kept the look.

    Dumbledore the White, lol.

What the fuck was the police doing in Gringotts? Give those guys some robes, seriously.

Too bad Voldemort starting yelling Avada Kedavra instead of whispering it into the silence when he killed Harry. Just the whisper and a rush of wind. Would have been a great moment.

The epilogue wasn't as bad as expected, but I kind of missed him saying he could have been in Slytherin.

Favorite parts: Neville, Nagini's attack on Snape (pretty brutal), Lavender's death and remembering a picture from the Harry Potter thread during the "did you know Harry talks in his sleep?" scene.

Least favorite: Not feeling a damn thing when the movie ended. This was the end of my childhood, damnit.

Still, I'll probably see it again at least once (just not in the theater). It's Harry Fucking Potter after all.

PS: 10 points to Gryffindor for Hermione's cleavage. I lol'ed.

It's wasn't a bad movie in my opinion, but it wasn't that great either. I suppose after reading so much fanfics, canon itself seems sort of dull. Especially with the films being as cheesy as they were.

Though one part did make me go nuts.

The epilogue. THEIR FACES. I couldn't stop laughing for the entire time. I had thought a meth epidemic struck the magical world in those 19 years. Malfoy looked like he got his face wrecked by a freight train.
