I hope I'm wrong, but just from looking at the author I can tell that story will most likely fall somewhere between aggressively mediocre and outright atrocious. Munkeymaniac writes one type of story and he writes it poorly.

 

What type of story is that? I haven't read his other stories, so I can't compare. As I said, what's there seems pretty decent to me, although chapter three makes me think it could be about to fall off a cliff.

Hopefully the author has simply improved. It happens. After all, The Santi's first couple of stories were crap while Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived is awesome.

Although to be honest, the authors response to my review doesn't give much hope.

 

You might hate the content of my recs Andro -that's your prerogative- but your speculation about my reasons for reading and advocating them is way off. Maybe your estimation of my taste will plummet further after reading this, but I do actually enjoy the stories I post here. Recommending them is not some political correct attempt to proof myself as uberliberal connoisseur of "deviant" fanfiction, I'm just trying to share with likeminded people, even if they are rare here on DLP.

I would also like to point out that I'm not trolling anyone with my recs, I don't post them in "For review" and I always give fair warning about the contents.

I can totally respect that. I enjoy, from time to time, fanfiction that would be derided here, and often I can't tolerate some of the highly-touted garbage on this site. There's no reason to be ashamed to like what I like, imo.

 

I've read pet project out of curiosity, and it's not completely awful. Both characterizations require a slight twist to make it work, but meh...

 

If it's the guy I'm thinking about, he writes relatively poor Harry/Daphne fics.

 

He did say in an authors note it's not going to be Harry/Daphne. Could still be crap, we'll have to wait and see.

Only one chapter so far, but it seems good enough to keep an eye on.

It's better than expected. Oh and, hey, Harry/Luna. I do think the writing style will start to become annoying very soon. One rather short chapter is just too early to really recommend or rate anything.

Chapter 7 of World in Pieces has been released. Mostly character interaction.

The whole minor expression and reaction thing bugs me a bit... nobody actually acts like that consciously, and it happens far too fast anyways.

I will acknowledge the herculean effort that you must have employed, though.

 

I think a lot of the negative attention you receive is due to your avatar. You'd think that a red-eyed young girl eating a spider would fit right in, this being DLP and all, but in the end, not so much -- it's actually fucking awful. Maybe if she was more loli-like?

 

That's an interesting hypothesis- it never even occured to me that the bashing I get from time to time could be somehow connected to my avatar. After all, this is DLP.

That was the intent- it should look awful, I'm pleased that I succeeded at least in that goal.

I'll take a look into other avatar- options, but there's no way I will use some fucking loli image.
