I am in the process of brainstorming for a fanfiction I plan to write in the future. During this processes I came to wonder about the topic of this thread. What does the magical world do with orphans of magical families that have no relatives? Are there orphanages in the magical world? Is there a foster care system? And if there is, why do they not place muggle orphans that display accidental magic into these systems?

I obviously know that JKR didn't include anything about this in her books. I'm just wondering if I'm crazy for thinking that such systems would exist.

Sirius said every pureblood family were related to each other so I don't think it's possible for a half blood or pure blood to have no remaining relatives.

I just assumed the closest related family is forced to take the child in because it's just not proper to do otherwise. With maybe blood purists just arranging accidents for any half blood spawn they're forced to take in. But I never believed the wizarding world had a foster system so Muggleborn orphans or secret halfbloods like Tom are just shit out of luck.

That's what I figured for pure/half-bloods. But how would they handle muggle-borns that have no relatives they can be sent to? Put them in the nearest muggle orphanage?

I read KtheGreat's question as what happens when two muggleborns have a kid and they die. Not muggleborn orphans in general. Though it'd probably be the same outcome and drop them in a muggle orphanage.

I don't think apparent goverment would care about some mudblood's offspring. Other than you know maybe family friends taking them in or something?

Yeah, this was more what I was trying to ask.
