This.And I want to deal with the effects of HP magic (even very limited HP magic) on Westeros. Just because Harry's dead doesn't mean that magic would die with him.

And I wouldn't necessarily have to start it when Harry's dead but I just like the idea, it seemed to fit the universe the stories are set in.

 

The problem is no one wants to read about Harry's kids, even in a new world.

You could do something like... With James and Lily trying to escape Voldemort, they end in Westeros with little Harry. (or perhaps, before Harry was born...) and you could have Harry's adventures and his battles when he gets older. As well as his siblings... You could have Lily die early, allowing James to remarry or something.

I just want to read about Harry, not necessarily his kids.

 

Yeah, I agree with Lindsey. We really don't give two fucks about the next generation (I really do believe I speak for most readers in this statement).

In the same sentiment, you should probably frame 'Harry' as an OC instead, and as a legend rather than a relatable character - a figure with the mythic quality of Brandon the Builder, etc... mentioned by the old as a hero who believed in the old gods, etc..

 

Yeah, I see your point, there are dozens of stories I've never read because they involve Harry's kids instead of Harry himself. I was probably being too trigger-happy for my own good. Regardless of what happens the majority of a story like that would have to be set after the wars (it was a curbstomp by all indications in the books and the politics interests me more anyway) so I guess it would either be immediately after the war or later in Harry's lifetime when he's more wizened (like Dumbledore).

 

I have only read half of the first book but I really like this idea. I have wanted to read a good HP/ASOIAF or HP/TNOTW crossover for a while now.

Oh, and the neighbor thing, I think that 'ou' is for British and just 'o' for American English. Like colour (British) and color (American).

I could be wrong though.

 

Yeah I mean I don't want to read about Harry's brats because anything they do will be boring compared to Harry. First bout of one of the brats accidental magic I could imagine Harry saying "I had already blocked a killing curse by his age." So yeah new gen fics just can't compare with all the crazy shit that happened to Harry ;/

 

I have an idea, but parts of it have been used before. Basically, it's in a world where Grindelwald never got beaten, and Dumbledore never went to confront him, instead deciding to remain in Hogwarts, thereby leaving Grindelwald to continue his campaign, and conquer most of the Wizarding world, but still leaving England, due to the long lasting fear of Dumbledore.

At the present moment though, i'm unsure whether Harry would be born into the Grindelwald Empire, or the independent England...

Thoughts?

 

It would be a bit of a stretch, if Grindelwald continued his campaign he would probably control most of Europe, and as awesome as Dumbledore is he is just one man. You could go the friendship route having Grindelwald not want to kill his friend etc. Also what would you do with Voldemort, would Dumbledore have taken care of him so he wouldn't fall in with Grindelwald, will he be independent, or one of Grindelwald's generals. Voldemorts relevance would also have to do with Harry, I could imagine Dumbledore apprenticing Voldemort and i.e. Voldemort taking Harry under his wing which would be :awesome

Okay, I just rewatched Batman Begins and I was paging through a couple comics, and I got one hell of a great idea for a fic tying the DC Universe to Harry Potter.

And it's got a very, very simple premise: Harry Potter and Batman Inc.

For those of you who don't know (and spoilers for the last couple years of DCU are incoming, btw), after Batman came back to life in the series 'The Return of Bruce Wayne', he decided to a global stance towards fighting crime. Hence, Batman Inc., where the collection of the Batman characters fight crime all over the world. It's potent, it's global, and it's set to combat anything that comes its way.

Enter an AU for Harry Potter - Voldemort is still alive and has an iron grip on wizarding England, perhaps even spreading his talons wider. Harry's been on the run now for years, and is looking for any shred of an advantage he can muster. He looks out at a wizarding world that has gradually accepted Voldemort's rule, and has prospered under his corrupt decree. The Order of the Phoenix has been utterly crushed, and Harry is one of the last who stands against the Ministry, the Death Eaters, and the Dark Lord himself.

Perhaps he encounters Knight & Squire, a superhero team who are a part of Batman Inc, and he seeks to join their team to gain necessary skills to crush Voldemort. Maybe this leads to introductions with Bruce Wayne, and thus a certain dynamic there is formed, with questions on whether a wizard should be accepted into Wayne's non-powered team of crime-fighters.

Or maybe it's more sinister than that. Maybe instead of encountering members of Batman Inc, Harry finds a shadowy figure who has absolute contempt of the corruption and darkness in wizarding England, and who offers Harry the necessary training and skills to augment his wizardry to utterly decimate wizarding England. Even with the figure's influence and power, and even with Harry's assistance, bringing down an entrenched magical government and some of the most powerful wizards who ever lived will require the full force of the league behind him. And if a certain dark knight were to suddenly notice that one of the biggest blips on his radar in Gotham has suddenly gone quiet, he is bound to take notice and begin an investigation of his own.

Oh, and that dark figure? None other than Ra's al Ghul himself, prepared for the largest undertaking the League of Shadows has ever attempted - the Death Eaters and Voldemort himself. And since the prophecy states that Harry must be the one to bring him down... well, let's just say the League will now have a very vested interest in the Boy-Who-Lived.

 

Basic flaw, isn't GRRM shutting everything and everyone who even thinks about making fanfiction containing his work?

 

He is. But you can just say you use the TV-series and it becomes allowed, because that's owned by HBO.

 

He could do that when this was just his books. As a tv show it's now out of his reach.

Meanwhile, I've written countless words exploring a Grindelwald world (all inspired by enembee).

It's a lot harder than you can believe at the moment - I thought it would be a cakewalk and a LET'S-DO-THIS-NAO! type of thing as well, but... I've been planning for weeks on and off and I still haven't gotten my story off of the ground.

So thus, I'll offer my plot bunny for the boiler

Harry is a Third Class Citizen, white, but not German (1st), or Aryan in appearance (2nd). He is bought by a wealthy Second Class family, prosperous due to their connections and their potions corporation. He was sold by James Potter in an auction house to find money to cure Lily, who was dying of lung cancer from industrial work.

He is bought by the Delacours - trained as a butler of sorts; a glorified house-elf, and never told about his parentage, etc. One day, Severus Snape, another Third who works for the Delacour Potions company notices him and realizes that Harry's green eyes are very much like those of an old childhood friend he hasn't seen in very, very many years. Snape, in an uncharacteristic show of kindness, allows Harry to take hold of his Stirrer's Rod, the closest thing he has to a wand that he has the right to own as a Third.

When Harry puts his hand on it, they realize that Harry is a wizard, and deep in the night, he steals Fleur's textbooks and practices the casting of magic with nothing but a stick. The conflict here is that he is completely incapable of anything but the weakest of spells - taking him years to learn how to levitate a writing utensil and showing little to no improvement beyond that.

One day, the perfectly obedient Harry snaps, and he grabs the wand out of Fleur's surprised hands and the magic that he's been diligently practicing for years and years comes to him in a flash, allowing him to drag Fleur out of Delacour manor, holding her hostage.

Harry's ambition becomes to cross the English channel - to find his parents, following the only lead that he's ever had about his parentage - the single offhanded comment from Severus Snape about his eyes.

The story will feature... resistance movements, the specter of Albus Dumbledore hanging over Europe... the undying Grindelwald... a V-for-Vendetta-inspired Tom Riddle whose not afraid to kill, torture and rape to accomplish his objectives...

Eventually, Harry will find the widowed James Potter, kill a lot of people and have a huge ideological disagreement with Tom Riddle that leads to a deathmatch in the skies over Berlin. And then, of course, there's Grindelwald himself.

 

Holy crap, is that what that snippet in 500 was hiding? DO IT!

 

I think its an awesome idea, one I hope you'll start writing and actually finish, too many awesome stories here go unfinished.

However I have to ask why the Delacours apart from the fact that people seem to love Fleur so much (I think she has become an over used character), what wold set them apart from any other Family, I hope its something good and not just an excuse to have Fleur in your story.
