If you haven't heard of Planetside then you really missed out on the biggest MMORPG/FPS ever made. I was part of it for two-three years and it's the only MMO that I've ever really enjoyed. Wars consisting of over 10,000 people at its peak were fought over nine continents (or planets, after they released Core Combat), for a half dozen bases on each. You could be anything from basic infantry to tank pilots/gunners, to fighter pilots, to snipers, to spies and a whole lot more.

It is still the biggest MMOFPS ever made and it was the most fun I've had playing online in my life. Now the sequel is entering beta, so I thought I should inform you lot and see if anyone wants to start up a DLP alliance when it begins.

 

I second this call to action. Of all the games that I've played in the last 10 or so years, Planetside holds the best memories for me. So much fun. Perfect example of what a mmo could really be. Then there were corporate shenannigans and the main backer for this project got shunted aside.

Give this a try. We could get lucky and SOE won't fuck it up this time around.

Cool, Planetside is one of those games I've never really found a counterpart to in the rest of the MMO catalogue. I mean, when it was big, it was big. There was a, I think, 600 player limit per faction on each continent, normally with at least three continents being contested at any one time. Thousands of players per server fighting each other on maps that are Elder Scrolls-esque in size. It was brilliant. Best MMO ever made, in my opinion.

Then it all went to shit. Still hyped as fuck for the sequel though.

 

Is there a subscription fee per-month?

 

Yeah, it was £12.99 per month for Planetside 1. Well worth it though.

 

They're thinking about the f2p model for PS2.

I've only played Runes of Magic,its best fun online games for free. Dot not check my mmorpg site, which are all free to play online browser games and rpg games.

 

The game sounds awesome. Count me in for when it's released.
EDIT: Wow, in the country list, there's no Serbia, only Yugoslavia. Good job on updating that, web managers.

 

It was one of the best games ever made. They they added the mechs in and balance went to shit. I beta tested the original and we had a shitload of fun. Only other game that's been able to compare to it for me was Tribes 2 modded out. Unlocking the heavy transport and flying in dropping off soldiers while dodging enemy jets and missiles was as epic as it sounds.
