So I heard a group of four korean powergamers beat it in 7 hours.

What do you all think? Personally I think that rushing through the game as quickly as possible on normal difficulty doesn't count as either playing the game as it's intended or even beating it. Since I believe that you should beat the hardest modes to 'beat' a game.

Anything less than total victory is a loss. At least in my opinion.

GD Studio is doing it on Hell right now.

And I grabbed the 3rd demo key. I doubt I'll buy D3 until after the fall though, since I need time to study for the MCAT.

    Pointless.

Although they completed the main storyline, they also missed out on the literal hundreds of pieces of background lore, stories, characters, side-quests, rewards, etc. They only really completed the bare bones of the game, on Normal.

Frankly, they're fucking stupid, IMHO. Then again, Korean gamers aren't exactly known for their common sense. :facepalm

Is it just me, or does this game's acts feel a lot longer than D2's acts?

Also, shared loot system is boss. Making my Demon Hunter farm then transfer gear to other classes makes it so much easier and faster.

    Sit rep:
Took about 2 hours to install. My computer is an old dell precision m4300 laptop, not exactly top of the line anymore. I had to turn all settings down to the lowest.

I played for about 2 hours. The game feels kind of sluggish. Sometimes the normal monsters in the first act would just suddenly appear by me. I don't know if that's server lag or just my computer. Maybe both.

Gameplay felt slow. I understand that they tried to speed up the gameplay to make it feel more actiony, but it just doesn't feel it. I don't know if it's because I haven't figured out what the run key is yet (is there one?) or if I'm just used to a paladin's vigor auror. I did equip some run speed boots as soon as I could though.

Skills: sort of dissapointing. It feels like they are going the WoW route and simplyfing the game to be 'more accessable' or whatever bullshit they're calling it this week. There's no real customization to the character it feels like. At level 1 in d2 you had at least 3 different skills you could start putting points into and using. The hotbar system for skills feels pretty weak. I don't like how you can't cycle through skills, or at least I haven't figured out how yet. Maybe you can hotkey them to other buttons, I'm not sure. But it's annoying when you have two left click skills on the demon hunter and there's now quick way to scroll through them. Again, I could just be missing something. So far it looks like you just unlock 1 skill per level, and then you start unlocking runes for each individual skill. The skill tree system in D2 wasn't perfect, since there were no redos, but it was at least user friendly and fairly obvious of how the skills worked in conjunction (synergies).

Stats: Instead of stat points, you get a fix amount. I guess that's to prevent min/maxing and forcing people to get stat specific gear. I don't know what high end gear looks like yet to even begin to comment on that. Hell, I haven't found anything above blue/magic quality items yet. By this time in d2 I would have at least found 6 pairs of arctic furs and a low nagel ring. The vendors are underwhelming so far. Just seems like they keep replacing the items I buy with identical ones.

The controls for the most part seem to be the same as D2. I'm still falling into the old habit of holding down alt to make items appear. Shift to make the character stand still and mouse button to attack is the same as D2, so it's fine in that regard. Movement is the same too, so I'm content with that.

Rune system: Can't really comment yet as I'm only like 7 or so, but I don't think it's going to be my favorite. I liked the rune system in d2, as runewords could be pretty boss. I don't think it's really going to add all that much customization. Again, I think it's done to simplify the game. No gems, no runes, no town portals (I think?). Maybe I just haven't some stuff yet.

What I do like: Lore. I like all the additional lore, either from the pop ups or from the pick ups. I also like all the throwbacks to d2 and d1. It makes me smile. Also, I like 3D models on the classic creatures - bats, bat nests, quill beasts, etc. Particularly, I liked revisting the den of evil and seeing the Fallen Shaman corpses on the ground

I'm not sure how far into the game I am yet, but it can't be far. I'm only a bit past rescuing Cain, so I'm assuming I'm barely past the intro to the game. I'm not in a rush to finish it, as I am enjoying it, and I will continue to enjoy it.

The beginning of the game seems slow mostly because it's so easy I'm guessing. There is a lack of mobs. You get maybe 3-4 mobs at a time, nothing major. Act2 is when you start to hit large waves of mobs, and it seems a tad quicker.

I've had no problems with sluggishness, besides the server maintenance and slight lag once every hour or so, I've had no game problems.

I'm easily enjoying this game far more than I've enjoyed any games recently, but that's most likely because it's exactly my play style. I end up changing something minor like a rune, causing me to change my other skills and mix and match for effectiveness. I love being able to play with skills without being punished or having to pay for it. I had major problems in D2 committing to one build. I'd end up rerolling my char more often than not just because I'd eventually get sick of the same play style by mid nightmare and I'd reroll a different build.

The skill UI is a little uncomfortable. I'd switch a skill or rune without meaning to a lot in act 1, but I've finally gotten used to it.

I've been going slow with about 12-13 hours played and still in Act 2. There is definitely plenty of playability here if you enjoy the combat. I'd say rescuring cain is like 1/8th of Act1

P.S there are gems and sockets, but you don't really start seeing them until the start of Act 2.

Well, the server is down for me again so I'll go ahead and post my thoughts so far.

First off, Blizzard is an absolute ass for having such big launch problems on Day 1. Realistically, yes I was expecting some problems. But I got the game around 11 EST online, and was not able to actually play until about 6:30 PM EST. Major strike against them there in my book.

Once actually into the game, it seemed rather slow and limited. I'm only level 12 now, and it has been picking up a bit. But, as it was pointed out earlier it really is annoying how easy and slow it starts off being. In addition, the lack of skill choices really irks me. I don't know if it opens up later on, but I was envisioning a true skill tree. Instead, we get a babied skill tree that any 5 year old can follow because you only get one choice.

The story line is fun though, I'm really enjoying that part of it. Not a huge surprise though since for all its faults Blizzard does do a good job with that. I've just finished putting the sword together, and I'm very eager to see what happens next (though I can't currently because of the fucking servers.)

Where it really has begun to get fun though is when Cleanrag (someone from DLP) joined my group. Multiplayer really is a lot more fun, and I think I'll be starting numerous different characters from the beginning with friends since that seems to be more fun. Also, I suspect that hardcore will make it much more interesting as well.

The items are interesting. I didn't play much D2 before this, so I can't really say how I expected it to compare to that. But the basic good attribute items are easy to find. Additionally, there is no soul binding the way there is in WoW which is a major plus for this game. On the down side though, grey and white items server no purpose. They sell for jack shit, and honestly are not worth carrying around with you. I really see no purpose that they server since the average one sells for about 4 gold, can't be used, takes up 2 item slots, and the average creep drops 10-20 gold early on. I don't know why, but it really bugs me.

The last thing that I really don't have much experience with so far is the auction house. They don't have the real money house open yet, but the regular one is already loaded with items in it. It's hard to tell if the price they are selling for is fair or not because it is so new, but I don't really like the way it is set up. It needs a search function in it so that you can find specific items. Currently it allows you to pick the type, level, etc but that can still leave you with pages to scroll through to try and find what you're looking for. I hope that it will be improved in the future. Otherwise, only the first couple of pages will sell and not many people will use it I suspect.

So far I'm moderately happy with it. A lot of the suspected things are bugging me, but it is addicting and I have been playing for 4ish hours already.

That's annoying. I killed 3 mini bosses, a treasure demon and looted a gold chest. Then I got kicked >_> That loot is gone.

Im a witchdoctor and getting towards the end of act 1. My only issue with the game so far is that many of the skills seem to be geared towards team play. I cant imagine going without my dogs or my poison darts on solo. The playstyle feels rigid unless youve got a monk or barbarian to keep the mobs off of you.

Edit: I'm still logged on but wondered where you went elvin. And yeah you have to learn to not pick up all of those white items they are just a waste of space. On that note is there a hotkey to drop items from your inventory? Its fairly annoying to have to drag and drop.
