I have been a lurker here since 2008, but did not register until early this year. Have any of you had problems with other people replying to your reviews, because you told the author you did not like the story? Instead of leaving a scathing review, like normal, I simply told an author I didn't like the story and thought it was crap. Then I get PM's like this one.

Most of the others tell me that I am stupid and idiotic. My review was

"I didn't enjoy this, because the plot is crap"

The first chapter when on and on about how Harry wanted to be with Ginny because she looked so much like his mother. Keep in mind this was the only chapter. However the story was removed this morning. I talked with the author herself and explained why the plot was crap. She said she didn't realize that it was incestuous.

 

And the next day Jesus crossed lake Galilee to the small town of Internet. A crowd gathered there to listen to him teach.

"Seek not upvotes, but make self-posts. And feed not the trolls," he said, "but turn the other cheek."

"So brave!" shouted one among the crowd, but Jesus merely smiled and continued to teach.

And by this sign do we know that he was truly the Son of God.

 

I am assuming the Author whined about it in PM's to her followers. It is not the first time but I have over 20 PM's saying I have no right to my opinion. What I don't understand is that I was pretty nice about it this time because I was in a good mood. From now on I will continue to be scathing about stories like that.

 

Just keep doing what you're doing (and also point out that she clearly cares about what you think if she's writing a response to your review.) I don't see the problem with fat landwhales taking umbrage with your opinions.

It made me laugh so hard that I sprayed chocolate milk on my laptop.

 

Well, you could just post a link to the story here and a bunch of people from DLP will go write scathing reviews on that story...I'm assuming that's why you posted here, no?

Personally, I don't care...it's not that big of a deal. When someone stupid responds to you on the internet, you don't have to respond/bother answering.

 

I left the review over a month ago. She removed the story either late last night or early this morning. That's when these idiots started messaging. Her author profile now has the PM button gone. Not to mention a new username.

If the OP is the type to get bent out of shape over a bit of negative feedback on her comments, DLP may not be the right place for her.

DLP is not an Ego Weapon to be wielded by the unworthy. Judging by her post count, the OP hasn't the standing in the community to issue a call to arms or some such silliness.

 

I am not bent out of shape. I just find these idiots hilarious. The only problem I had was that my phone beeping with emails, while I am trying to type a deposition for a litigation case.

Loath though I am to say it, Unseelie, I rather agree with the overzealous H/G fangirl. If you're going to critique something, critique it. A review as simplistic as "this story blows" is a pretty poignant example of pointless douchebaggery. Don't come crying to DLP when somebody calls you out on it.

Ergo, concordantly, vis-a-vis, this thread is fucking stupid.

 

The awesome thing about DLP's reviews is that while they're harsh, they're also consistently constructive and on-point. If an author's determined to become a better writer, the advice offered here will show them how. And if they aren't, then someone else can read the advice and use it to become better themselves. Despite probably being accurate, your review does none of this. It's short, unconstructive, pointless, adds nothing of value to the world, and was basically just you getting your rocks off by being a dick on the internet. So, tbh, I'm kind of glad to hear you were called out for it.

That one was an hour ago. I understand that I can be a bitch, but I did PM the author directly after I reviewed and gave honest advice about why I thought the plot was crap. I also commented on grammar and other things. However normally I would have pointed out each and every fault and not been nice about it. Yes, most would see calling a story crap as being a bitch but that is nice for me.

Nine times out of ten if I alert, it means I enjoy a story. I only review if I really enjoy it or it is really bad.

 

Wait a second -

An author name like "Gred and Forge Rule" didn't give you a hint that you'd be dealing with barely pubescent teenagers at best?

And if it did . . . what in all of God's green earth made you want to read a fic based on an Oedipus complex put together by a thirteen or fourteen year old? Wait, don't answer that. I really don't think I want to know.

 

The summary was moderately interesting and I didnt look at the username first. It also only had Harry as a character.

 

Pointing out a story's faults while simultaneously being a belligerent cunt? There's nothing wrong with that. 90% of reviews at DLP follow that pattern.

Being a belligerent cunt without pointing out faults is.... unsurprisingly.... just being a belligerent cunt. It is in no way 'nicer'.
