Probably not. They finished that arc with the cave and are travelling again but overall I don't think things have progressed a great deal.

    I do.

Toriko 222: The art in this series is so damn freaky. But I'm thinking I'd enjoy reading this more in chunks rather than week-to-week so I might drop this for a while whilst this 'war' gets on.

The Breaker: New Waves 105: As much as I love protags kicking ass, this is just more of the same. Hopefully things will start moving again next chapter.

Agreed on all of this. Personally didn't find the chapter boring since I was glad we dodged a bullet with the demon reveal. The council of war was definitely a highlight and an interesting contrast to how Oga dealt with Akuma High.

My gripe with Beelzebub is that it still hasn´t decided wether it wants to be a gaggy sort of manga or a more 'serious straight, shounen' one. In the following sense:

If it wants to be funny and make gags, thats fine but then I can absolutely not take the more serious bits well, seriously and they are out of place.

On the other hand, if it wants to play it straight shounen I really think much more background should have been revealed by now about almost anything really.
Especially the demon world. I mean, look at how Beel´s father was first introduced:

'Hm, i should destroy the human world. Meh, maybe move that to next tuesday'

And that would be alright if i thought the author had this amazing story arc, spanning years and years into the future already mapped out. But for some reason that doesn´t strike me as very probable.

So I rather think that it will be suffering from a dose of Naruto Plot in the future: Just make up more shit and then try to fit in in retrospect. Hardly ever works and even more seldom looks professional.

I swear we have fanfiction writers here that could out conceptualize all of those mainstream mangaka in terms of plot consistency.

Anybody read World Only Gods Knows?

I am just reading the recent chapters. I thought that whole Dokuro thing at the beginning of this arc was kind of interesting, but now its like the arc is kind of farfetched. The ending was a cliffhanger, so hopefully things turn go right for Keima.

Beelzebub seems to be pretty popular here. Might have to give it a go.

Saw first two eps of anime, then dropped it thinking it was nothing more than an unfunny crack anime.

    Keima is the perfect protagonist.

Loved it through the Goddess Arc, dropped it soon after with the time travel BS. Sorry, just can't make myself read a romance-themed manga starring a seven year old kid.

The Beelzebub anime was utter shit. They had to tone down the violence because of the audience and tried to compensate by upping the 'humor' to the point where it became retarded instead of hilarious.

Heh, same here. The fact that I made it that far is a credit to the manga since romance/slice-of-life isn't something I'd ever bother with normally.

    Tower of God 52.

Fallout from last chapter didn't quite pan out the way I'd hoped, but at least Baam seems to have realized that he's going to have to sack up and start asserting some control over his situation rather than continuing on as FUG's obedient little bitch boy. And damn, it does look like he's putting together quite a team here. Looking forward to seeing who rounds it out. Hopefully it won't include those two scrub traitors from Koon's old team. Nice quick thinking with the pocket, too.

EDIT: ROFL this page. Baam's pimp hand is so stern that the mere threat of it brings crazy bitches to obedience.

    Tokage no Ou 10.

Different series, same theme. Bitch be fucking crazy.

Holy fuck. Tokage no Ou is fucking epic. Thank you so much for recommending that one, LT2000. I'm off to find the light novel now.

If you do, please share. You probably won't, there's nothing out there afaik except one translation project that is literally just beginning. Unless you can read Japanese and get ahold of the raws of course.

Not technically a manga update, though it does have an adaptation, but Highschool DxD Volume 14 is now uploaded in its entirety on the translator's blog. Good stuff as always.

Well, that didn't turn out how I was expected. Things were 'resolved' a lot faster but I'm glad we don't have the deal with a long wait for Koon's return. Interesting how the team leaders have essentially swapped places and it looks like Baam's learned he's going to have to up his game.

I read some a this a fair few months back. Personally, I hate getting into an interesting serious when they're still in the early stages since there's less to get my teeth stuck into. Has the "really long prologue" ended yet? I'd like it to be at least that far before I go for a re-read.

    Magi 174

Seems like Aladdin is taking the expected stance here, which is rather inevitable given this role in the world. Seeing his Ugo giant in action was pretty damn cool through; he's come a long way. Now I wanna see Alibaba in action againt tpp.

    Nurarihyon no Mago 210

This series had a good run but has finally come to an end. Switching to a monthly/seasonal release from a weekly release was a mistake though, especially when it was on the home stretch. Not sure whether that was intentional or someone the mangaka was forced to do. Felt like it lost momentum from the gaps so the emotional payout wasn't as grand as it could have been. Still, I plan to re-read this one in the future.

FYI, in a nutshell it's about a youkai/human quarter-breed who learns to become the master of all youkai. A reccommendable shounen series.

Nurarihyon kinda lost me shortly into the Hundred Tales arc when I first read it. I picked it back up and read the ending run of chapters though. The battle itself was good enough, but that ending was entirely bland and unimaginative. The mangaka iirc had some kind of personal issues that required the switch to seasonal at the end, but if the series had remained weekly I imagine the end would have been somewhat better.

As for ToG, I'm kind of wondering whether Wangnan and co. will even be in the Gongbang now. It doesn't seem like the have anywhere near the firepower to hang around against the Season I crew without Baam and Horyang (to say nothing of Baam's new team, which so far seems overpowered to the point of ridiculousness). I assumed they'd be getting Ran and Novik to compensate, but instead those two are now in Baam's FUG team of doom.

I really hope that the arc itself gives us Baam vs Androssi. I'd love to see that fight for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, that arc struck me as rather weird and disjointed. It picked up again towards the latter half from what I recall but before that it felt like a mismatch of different stories. Which was probably the point but I didn't find it particularly appealing.

I lost interest in Nurarihyon went the protagonist went full demon. The whole series seemed interesting because he was mostly human and trying to deal with leading a bunch of monsters.

Then that was kind of thrown away entirely, and it was just a shounen Demon vs. Demon battle manga. I didn't really expect different, but I felt like the whole thing could've just been better.

That's also true. It didn't help matters that Night Rikuo, especially in the earlier arcs, came off as being an arrogant, condescending little prick. The series would have been much better if the main character's human side had received some development and skills of 'his' own instead of just being shunted off to the side in favor of his youkai form whenever things got remotely serious (or got to do anything aside from like, go to school and be generally useless).

Only saw both seasons of the anime, but assuming that it did follow the manga properly, I'd agree with your assessments.

Towards the start (season 1) was good because it largely followed human Rikuo, who was occasionally forced to pull out his demon form. Night Rikuo was a distinct personality - as LT2000 described, arrogant and condescending. The Kyoto arc (season 2) seemed to have human Rikuo disappear completely, and night Rikuo basically take his personality (losing the arrogance and condescension).

    Beelzebub 193.

That was...something. It's going to be a little bizarre if Kanzaki actually manages to do something epic here considering his long-standing jobber status.
